I believe he is a FA after this season..... So would you?

I'm not asking if the Steelers will, we know they don't chase that kind of FA, but would you be upset if they spent the kind of money he'll command on one person? For a position where we have spent recent 1st round picks?

He'd be hard for any team to pass up even at a high cost...guy is an animal.

That pass rush was something to marvel at from Denver......I saw Brady afraid to take hits....NE ran the ball at times they really didn't want to but they had to because Marsha was getting brutalized out there. He was throwing under duress all game

Id love to have Von.....id spend the money....a good pass rush masks some secondary issues....we all know that

Miller does his damage with an amazingly quick first step...hes got a rocker burst and the OLineman cant recover quick enough. Hes in the class on Derrick Thomas and Lawrence Taylor, that's for damn sure.

Yeah but it helps that Denver has a great secondary as well and he has Ware on the other side. They have a stellar defense.

No question. And the scheme the Wade Phillips put together was incredible, it looked like they were playing with 14 guys on defense.

But Miller is a rare talent, a real difference-maker. I'm wondering how much he'd help our team and would it be worth the cost?

Von will be Franchised, without doubt. There is zero chance we give up 2 first rounders for him.

That's to say nothing of the 50 million dollar contract that he would demand, and that the Rooneys would never pay.

He's a pipe dream. BYU's Bronson Kaufusi in the second round would be the best we could possibly do.

I'm not sure they can afford to franchise him, they're already over the cap. And they still have to sign Travethan and Malik Jackson. And Peyton will likely be gone, so their window closes after this season, why bury that kind of money in one defensive player if you don't have a QB that can get you to the big dance?

Like I said, doesn't really matter because we'll never sign him. I'm just curious about whether people think he'd make enough of a difference on this team to justify the cost. In other words: are we one star player away from the next level, and could he be that player?

If we were to land a Blue Chip DB in the first, AND Senquez turns out to be a starter at CB, I think a big time pass rusher makes the Steelers THE team to beat in the AFC for at least the next three years, barring injury. But those are big "ifs". We are very close to being an elite team, and having an elite pass rusher is one of our major gaps. Fill it, and tighten up that secondary, and we pull a ring or two out of Ben before he retires.

.

All I know is this... I WANT ONE! This team managed to get 48 sacks with what we have... can you imagine how we would do with a genuine top-shelf OLB?

.

That was about as good a defensive performance as I've seen in quite some time today. To think Chris Harris Jr went undrafted.

We can't afford him.

We do have one card to play....if he wants another ring....he would be the missing piece.

Von Miller is probably worth 2 #1 picks and a Suh type of deal. I doubt anyone does it but it's worth thinking about. Especially if he doesn't sign before the draft. Then you get your pick and lose the 2017/2018 selections.

I would give to firsts for him and not even blink.

He is the kind of pass rusher the Steelers need to bring in..... but won't.

No. Unless Denver is able to renegotiate a contract before he becomes a FA, the team that signs him will outbid every other team and in doing so, over-pay.

You can't participate in that kind of madness. Not with a salary cap.

Oh yeah, I just remembered that the exclusive franchise tag exists so I would assume Denver will slap that on him.

Yep, would love to have that kind of pass rush again. Brought back memories of the late 2000's, and the mid-90's. Sigh.

We are a difference maker away.

I agree on the upgrade at CB but I can't help but wonder if that difference maker is already on the roster in the form of Bud Dupree (or someone else) and that if we had that anchor at NT, like a Casey Hampton, that the talent this team has invested highly in at LB would flourish......

That's why I have been saying we should sign Bruce Irvin. He is more realistic and has a nice first step and burst. Put him opposite a developing Dupree, spend 1st rounder on a corner (Fuller, Apple)

You beat me to it Dave. While I still stand in awe at Von's performance yesterday - it is my opinion, that Buddy can be just as devastating in the years to come. I'm still pondering if I would take one of the monster NT's from Bama or Clemson in the first and try to get a SS in the second---but, only time will tell.

Fix those two positions on defense - and RIGHT AWAY we will be a contender.

What the heck are you talking about with regards to drafting nose tackles? It's basically an extinct position for the Steelers. We have a nose tackle on the field about 30% of the time. I don't know why people can't understand this reality. Our base defense is the nickel. Playing the traditional 3-4 defense is a specialty package.

Denver and Carolina D can get a pass rush from the D line and they have a quality secondary to back them up

We have neither
