We have signed FS Jacob Hagen, OT Brian Mihalik, K Ty Long & RB Daryl Richardson to Reserve/Future contracts.

Mihalik is 6-9 302, played DE for Boston College then drafted in the 7th round by the Eagles. Munchak must love these huge OT projects, given his success with Villaneuva. Curious to see what this kid can do on this side of the ball....

Can Jacob Hagen play? We need a FS so badly..

The kicker jumped out at me. They usually only carry 2 during camp, right? So, to me this indicates one of three things are possible (well, three "acceptable" things):

1. Suishy won't be ready to compete for his job during mini-camp and/ or training camp.

2. They plan to try to trade Suishy.

3. They plan to release Suishy if they can't find a trade partner.

* I guess it could also indicate that they don't plan to re-sign Boswell, but I don't find that to be likely or acceptable.

I'm sure they will re-sign Boswell because he would cost less than Sushi and is just as good, then trade Sushi for a draft pick.

I think they plan to take Sushi out on a big boat on a deep sea voyage and ask him to find the leak.

Also of interest is the fact that a year after we basically stole a very good conversion project from them ... One that they failed to see the potential in .. They try to duplicate our maneuver (converting a so-so DE into an OT). Now we get to see if Munch can tweek their noses by doing it again. LOL

We signed a kicker so we have someone who can kick off during rookie minicamp. Neither Suisham nor Boswell is eligible to participate so you need a leg. Don't read any more into it than that.

then trade Sushi for a draft pick.

I don't think a K who is coming off IR and has a relatively big contract has any trade value whatsoever. I think we'd have to trade one of our own picks for someone to take Suishams cap hit off our hands.

Yep, Suisham will be kept around until after 1 June to soften the salary cap hit when he's cut.

This is exactly what I thought they would wisely do just as Jacksonville did last year. The job is Boswell's to lose. Ink him now, use Suishy as trade material during camp just as Jacksonville did with Scobee. If they can snag a 4th for him excellent.

Boswell impressed the heck out of me. Although he lacks a long-term record, for this year he was as good as any kicker in the NFL. A true find and he operated in cooler outdoor stadiums than most kickers, which makes his accuracy, even more, impressive!

Boswell has Pro bowl level ability and has been very clutch. An upgrade over Suisham who had limited Field goal range and a player that takes far less cap space.

Who the hell is going to trade for the 6th highest paid kicker in the league who is coming off a major injury? He could barely get his kicks into the end zone before the injury.

Forgot to mention that Boz can kick the ball out of the endzone. Which in fact I really like from him.

Yes, he can. He put one in row 3 for the fans in the playoff game.

Anyone needing a reliable kicker. See the Steelers this past training camp who gave up a high draft pick for him and I believe it was a 6th, hell, if they get a 6th, 7th a bag of chips, Stiffler's mom it's worth it to avoid a cap hit from a straight out cut.

Actually, I should be venting my vitriol on Scobee. Sushi was doing fine until he was hurt. I Shouldn't pile on him. But Shane's post above points to the difference between Sushi and Boswell. Bos is years younger, (9) and he has a much bigger leg which is pretty darn important given the longer KO position and the now longer XP attempts.

I think despite the money that's tied up in Sushi, you go with the younger, ultimately cheaper Boswell and hope he doesn't turn out to be a flash in the pan. And if he does, I'll be the first to say we ( meaning I ) can't crucify the coaches for it.

Bos is here to stay, sushi you trade for anything you can get. Even if it means just him & his salary cap hit / wages. If no takers, cut after june 1st. Pretty simple.

Salute the nation

It's not even a discussion. Boswell is our kicker and Sushi is an insurance policy (hey, Bos could get into a motorcycle accident...knock wood) and trade bait. But no one will give you **** for an expensive, injured kicker in March. So we'll have to bring both kickers to camp and hope that Suisham looks great in the preseason so we can get something for him.

Nobody but the Steelers would trade a pick for an injured kicker. He couldn't get 1 in over 50 yards pre injury, why would a team give a 4th for him and that contract? If we get a 7th it's a steal, he's got post June 1 cut written all over him.

Kickers with any track record are a valued commodity in the league... its why someone who has kicked well in the past will get chance after chance. We traded for Scobee coming off a bad season. Heck over the past ten years Kicker has been one of the most traded positions. Mostly 6ths or 7ths though

Hagen looks good on tape. Let's get him into camp and run him against guys that are good enough to dress for games. Big step up from DII ball to the NFL!

We traded for a guy they were going to cut with a huge contract and an injury situation... Sounds a lot like the trade partner we would need for Suisham. Just not sure another team gives anything for that "commodity". Def not a 4th as suggested. I stand by the 7th would be a steal. Would you care to wager we get more for him if traded?

Was against the Scobee trade from the start. A ton of out if work kickers, just bring in 3-5 of the best young options and let them fight it out in try out rather than trading for an expensive retread and giving away a pick. All it takes is a little effort.
