Play to the whistle. If he lies on the ground and there is no whistle. Drill him. Simple as that.
A "drill" wouldn't even be necessary. A simple touch would have worked.

It was borderline and a judgement call and not reviewable by rule.
He seemed to kind of give himself up, but kind of fell. Hard to say which. If there wasn't a whistle, defenders shouldn't have relaxed. That is on them.
Refs ****** up by not blowing the whistle......
Look at it this way, if a Steeler player had hit Manning even "kinda hard" on that "slide" it would have been a penalty.
enough said.
No, they didn't.
By rule, a QB can not give himself up in the pocket.

I do not respect what Manning did, as it is somewhat cowardly, but he has done that since his college days at Tennessee.
However, it was great awareness on his part. Someone has to touch him down there.
he slipped,and fell. Wasn't a slide.
just touch him down to be safe, you don't have to spear him or anything, just touch him.
They can't? I really never thought of it. When the QB kneels at the end of a game, does the defense have to touch him, or is it giving himself up? Never really paid much attention to it. I would assume they are in the pocket in that situation.

Just sad.

It looked to me like Manning slipped...I didn't think he intended to slide because he was going around the OL and his feet left him. It could have gone either way, but I wasn't bothered by the call at all. Minority opinion, I know...
