Peyton Manning sack-slide?

I was very confused on this for a couple reasons....

1. I thought he had given himself up which would mean end of the play.
2. Also, wouldn't that be considered a QB slide or does that just apply past the line of scrimmage?

Either way I think we got screwed on that play and was a huge gain for Denver.

It looked like our defense kind of stopped for a second. Unfortunate situation. Always play to the whistle. I agree, my assumption was that he had given himself up and when he got up and threw it I was shocked. Bad judgement call by the refs, but what are you gonna do?

I think he slipped and fell and figured someone would tackle or at least touch him, no one did, so he got up and ran. That's on the defense.

It was an obvious slide. He even manipulated his body to make sure he went feet/legs first. He should have been down where he started his slide. That was a 100% blown call by the officials. I have seen QB's do that running down the field with no one within 10 yards of them. They can't get back up and start running although I have seen Aaron Rodgers try to.

Quarterbacks on the ground should be auto downed for just this reason... there is a special rule protecting them so unless they line up at another position, they should be exempt from down by contact... honestly it would save them hits...

The QB "giving himself up" rule is different in the pocket than it is as runner.

If a QB cowers in fear within the pocket, as Peyton pathetically did, he must be touched down, but the key word there is "touched," as anything more than that in such a situation will more than likely be flagged for unnecessary roughness.

He is known for doing it, but this was the first instance I can recall him getting back up before he was touched.

It was a legal play.

I do not think it was THAT quick.

I think he totally intended to give up on the play, but had the presence of mind to get up after he wasn't touched for a second or two and make a throw.

I always thought when a QB hits the deck, the ball is down there. I thought that was the slide rule... the ball is spotted where he goes down and not where he stops sliding even if he is not touched by a defender. What pisses me off is that you know damn well if someone would have hit him when he was going down they would have been flagged for unnecessary roughness.

Tomlin was arguing the same thing to the refs. He slid, so he's down. He wanted to review it, but sliding feet first is not reviewable. It sucked that it hurt us, but honestly, the refs allowed the play to continue, which should be done for every questionable play.

He seemed to kind of give himself up, but kind of fell. Hard to say which. If there wasn't a whistle, defenders shouldn't have relaxed. That is on them.
