The Steelers should seriously consider drafting this talented North Dakota State quarterback.

Intelligence, size, arm strength, mobility, toughness...but still a little raw. Groom him for a few years, and he'll be ready to kick some *** when Ben retires.

I truly believe any time you scout a QB you think has the potential to be a franchise guy and he is available to you, you take him.... id rather a Dan Marino on the bench than a reach at CB limping along because he is a first round pick... remember, the team thought they had years of bradshaw left when he was suddenly done.

We are not picking a Qb high in 2016. Maybe 2019-2020 Our next Qb could be in high school right now.

That's an idiotic stance... even if you have an in his Prime Brees and Rivers is there you take him... Had the chargers not utterly oafed it with their coaching, they well could have had a dynasty with what they got for Brees. The Packers seamlessly went from Farve to Rodgers despite him rotting on the bench for 3 or 4 years... even if the guy turns out to be a solid but not great starter, that can get you a first and more in return if you don't need him.

NEVER pass on a Franchise type QB.. for any reason... they are too rare and if you think the guy that's there is likely one of them, you take him... even if you have no CBS, LBs, and your running back is a 50 year old you signed from under the overpass on second avenue...

I disagree. Ben's got 2, maybe 3 good years left. Now is the time to start thinking about life without him, and Wentz is considered to be a possible second round pick at this point. How much production did the Steelers get from last year's second round pick?

Not saying they should draft Wentz in round one. Clearly a cornerback is what they need with their first pick. If he is still there in the second round, I think it would make sense.

for me to be ok with it we would have to upgrade 2 out of 3 in free agency.... and then round two I would be ok with it....

but say they take another position in one that isn't one of the three...then I am back to no thank you...

Ben could play till he is 43 or be done in the next game... he is at the age you have a replacement in the wings asap... get a guy and if he looks good trade landry to anyone for a mid rounder... You can win with crap linebacker, crap DBs, Crap safeties, but you cannot win in this league with a crap QB unless you have near all pros at all the other positions....

again, this team passed on Marino once because they thought they were set at QB... that very season Bradshaw threw his shoulder out for good and was retired after 13 years... ben was drafted in 04... that timeframe is awfully close. he is of the age and career length that you cant ignore a replacement QB. Its not an instant boon to the team, but its the smart move... you can always find a guy at the other positions later in the draft... its rare to find a great QB there

I do not agree with you Coach. if you have the chance to bring in a QB through the draft with starting potential then you do it sooner than later to groom under Ben. We don't really know how long Ben's skills will stay at a high level and of course we hope for another 3-4 years but at his age a significant injury could make it sooner. What you don't want to do is wait until your back is up against the wall to draft a guy because you tend to panic and draft out of panic. Be pro active and if one is out there I grab him early on even in 2016 draft.

As for CB and safety I try and bring one each in through F/A to bolster this secondary. I would try and re-sign Gay and Boykin even though Boykin may tell them to kiss his ***. We don't know what we have yet in Golson so that's a wait and see. The other guys are strictly depth and should not start another game here.

I then sign DeCastro and Beechum to multi year contracts to keep my line in tact. Move some money around, make that happen. Ramon Foster I'd let walk since I think we can upgrade that position through the draft or maybe internally.

Here's a thought. RG3 is set to make like 16-17 million and I highly doubt he's not cut. I've heard no one offered a 7th even for him before the deadline. He's like 25 years old and at least as mobile as Vick. Bring him in as a backup give him.

I take RG3 as a backup in a SECOND. Give him some time to relax, learn a system, and have zero pressure on him. Than BANG, he's back in the game and kicking *** at 100%!

No thank you. He simply cannot stay healthy, one halfway decent tackle and he crumbles like a cookie

I very much agree that we need to start considering Ben's replacement now. That being said:

@MoveTheSticks 4m4 minutes ago Don't buy the narrative that Wentz is going to fly up draft boards. He's already there. Several top personnel guys have him as top QB.

I think RGIII is a **** and a frail one at that, but I'd take him for nothing, easy. If you saw his rookie campaign you saw the great potential he has as a passer, he was just ruined because the ******* Redskins kept running him like Tebow and Dan Snyder is a headcase that inflated his ego.

I would expect Wentz to be gone before pick 64 (our pick), so if we want him would probably have to be with 32nd pick which seems a bit early for our needs.

I like Wentz, but we really need a S, CB and another pass rusher as well as I think Silverback will ride off into the sunset with a SB win.

HERE WE GO STEELERS!!!

I'm all for being prepared to have someone ready to replace Ben when his time comes, you want to do as much as possible to avoid the QB drought from Bradshaw to Ben.....ugh that'd be horrible. Scouting QBs is something we should be doing every draft from this point on, because when a QB's talent falls off, it can fall off fast (ex. Manning) so it is best to be grooming someone now.

I don't think we should draft a QB until the 2017 or 2018 draft. Ben still has 4 huge years left on his contract and there's no reason to snag anyone before that. If you're comfortable with Jones as a backup, you look to extend him in a Chase Daniel type deal(3yrs/10m) after next season.

******* Bryant yes yes yes ! !
