Will running back depth doom Steelers for second straight playoff?

PITTSBURGH -- Mike Tomlin is talking up Fitz Toussaint, calling him a talented, hard-working, blue-collar guy. He said the whole staff was excited to see him get extended run on Sunday at Cleveland, where he was "very, very capable" in the passing game as a blocker.

That all sounds great. But those words won't quell the concerns of Steelers fans who see chaos surrounding the running back position for the second straight playoff run.

In other words, if DeAngelo doesn't play, Ben is throwing it 50 times.

Spitballing here.

With the obvious drop in production from Williams to Toussant,, (yes there is)

Do you think Haley would ever Throw out there a pound it type offense featuring Johnson? Two tight end sets,,, etc.. Or would cincy's D line be too tough for that?

I agree, if Williams isn't ready to go it will be a lot tougher to win.

Ben has been off, but he's still good enough to sneak one out if needed.

Well our fullback (Nix) is out for the season. That really hurts our ability to play power football. I don't think that approach would work against the Bengals defensive front. They would probably love it if we took our big-play weapons off the field which would allow them to stack the box.

I love how you always restate your point as if we didn't understand it the first time. We understood it, Coach, but we thought it was dead wrong. Ben had 4 games to rest in the middle of the season. His arm is "fresher" than other QBs that aren't throwing so many picks. Ben has thrown a bunch of interceptions lately because he's either been misreading the coverage or (if he's reading the coverage correctly) because he is forcing the ball into tight coverage. He is simply making bad decisions.

Is his arm still fresher? Arm at the end of the season arm's not as Stong Al. In addition, if you ever played or coached QB's you'd understand that the legs mean a lot to getting zip on the ball, and Ben's were banged up. Make sense?

I'm not saying Ben has a Spaghetti arm, I'm just not seeing the zip on the shorter passes on the sideline or tight windows that he's capable of.

The difference between this season and last is that the RB's we have on our roster have been here all season, last year Tate came in a week before the playoffs.
I think our best bet in the running game is to run out of the 3wr-1TE-1RB formation. *

My God you are thick, Coach. Sure Ben's arm may not be as fresh as it was in August. But that applies to EVERY QB that's been playing for most of the season. And it applies to every December / January for Ben. THEREFORE THERE MUST BE ANOTHER EXPLANATION FOR WHY HE IS THROWING SO MANY PICKS LATELY.
