Seriously, does it get any more comical from the national media about the Steelers

Rewind two weeks ago, the Steelers just came off of back to back wins against 2 of the 3 division winners in the AFC. The national media is glowing over them, they had only one recent loss and it was on the road vs. Seattle in a game in which the offense truly torched Seattle's vaunted "Legion of Boom" defense.

"The are the team 'no one wants to face' according to every so called expert".

Then comes Baltimore and the team truly does lay an egg. Is it an inexcusable loss -- quite frankly yes. It's seemingly typical of Mike Tomlin coached teams to play poor against poor teams and that was a poor performance. Although that reverse is true, they raise their game vs. the better teams..... but lets get caught in the moment and forget that fact.

So that bandwagon was EMPTY.... except by the people that truly recognize -- LAS VEGAS, who gave the Steelers on the outside looking in of the playoffs better Super Bowl odds than 3 teams that were "in the playoffs" (16-1 over Bengals, Vikings and Redskins).

A relatively unimpressive win over the Browns and now these same talking heads are so-so on the Steelers.

Our secondary sucks -- no **** Sherlock, it has sucked since week one and everyone on the planet knew it sucked, but it still picked off 17 passes and the defensive unit finished 11th in the NFL, 1 behind the vaunted Patriots. Fact is, it played better than what was expected. Not to mention there was one talking head who said the Steelers had no pass rush "unless we blitz" -- 48 sacks on the season was good for 3rd in the NFL. Who cares if it came from blitzing, the team could pressure a QB.

You see headlines that say the Steelers haven't won a playoff game in 5 years. Mind numbingly STUPID because lets just take 2015 and subtract 2010 and get 5. Lets ignore the fact that the Steelers WON in 2010 and were in the Super Bowl. They have played all of TWO playoff games since then and it's automatically counting a game that hasn't been played yet in that equation. Man, that's just DUMB math.

Oh lets feel sorry for the Bengals who lost Andy Dalton at the end of the year. **** you, if Ben doesn't get hurt, to say nothing of Bell, the Bengals are the wild card ******* this season, they were lucky the Steelers faced injuries like they did and still found a way to make the playoffs -- FACING THE HARDEST SCHEDULE IN THE NFL GOING INTO THE SEASON.

I'll be honest, I hope Ben gets back to playing sharp and DeAngelo Williams is able to play, but facing a rookie QB in a primetime playoff game who has wins over the Ravens and 49ers under his belt and losses to the Steelers and Broncos -- well, we'll see where the bandwagon is come Sunday morning. Either they are up the Steelers *** or its all falling apart. (AGAIN).

The media are slobbering over Peyton Manning and the second coming of the Golden Boy wins it all story. In 2 weeks the Broncs will have to play a Defense other than the Chargers.
If JJ Watt were to drop Manning 2-3 Times or get sandwiched by Timmons and Heyward, Osweiler is back at the controls.
WE, as they say, shall see.

I couldn´t care less. Let the great Seahogs, Giselle´s foot and Manning´s forehead get all the media attention, I will gladly accept the quiet stomping of the Bengals on Saturday! In the past the Steelers were often motivated by being the underdogs and having stuff to prove. Let´s go!! We dey!!

"48 sacks on the season was good for 3rd in the NFL"

Which is an eye opening stat considering if you go by people on this board, we still need 2 All Pro pass rushers in order to bring our D out of the pass rushing basement. 29 other teams would love to have our pass rushing "issues" lol

Even I knew the last two games against division foes would be rough. It was "beat the Steelers at all cost" for those teams. Don't know why the talking heads couldn't figure that out.

With regards to the Browns ...A blocked field goal at the end of regulation prevented the browns from beating the Ravens twice, who we lost to twice. The Broncos were lucky to get a win in Cleveland, playing them down to the wire. They gave KC fits. They destroyed a bad Niner team as bad as we did, and lost other games they should have won. Beating Cleveland wasn't going to be as easy as everyone thought.

There are concessions that must be given to get sacks without genuine edge rushers.

There is no sugarcoating it: The Steelers' pass defense is awful. They rank 25th in the NFL in passing yards allowed per game (252.9), 31st in passing yards per play (7.71) and 29th in overall pass defense

It would indeed be a nice addition to the team to be able to pressure the passer with 4 instead of bringing people from the backfield and or the bleacher seats.

Like the guy in the Bleacher Report says.....

"The Steelers may not quite have enough defense to stop the inevitable, but it will be a lot of fun to watch them try."

I think the national media is justified in abandoning the Steelers for a week. That Baltimore loss was AWFUL...I mean, that's like Alabama losing to Vanderbilt for chrissakes. That'd actually be understandable in week 2 or 3, but in week 16 when you're in a PLAYOFF CHASE? Are you kidding me? No, the media saw that and stopped talking about the Steelers...because without the Bills, the Steelers are packing up lockers this week. It really didn't matter what they did in Cleveland if Buffalo hadn't won...so...

I get that "we" all think the media "hates" the Steelers, but nothing could be further from the truth. The Media chases whatever the hot story is at the time...whatever will get ratings. When the Steelers beat the Bengals and Broncos and travel to Houston to take on the Texans for the AFCCG...the media will talk about it...until then, the Steelers are the last-team in...

I'l give you that. We have been blitzing corners and Will Allen a number of times the last few games. Pressure is pressure though. Whether it's Heyward, Harrison, or Boykin, I could care less where it comes from as long as it's effective and 3rd in the NFL in sacks is definitely effective. Imagine if we didn't play 12 yards off the WRs, we'd probably be #1 considering the 2nd half is when we lock down and magically become more effective (also benching Blake helps).

I was just pointing out I've seen numerous times over the last few weeks on here that we need yet another #1 OLB in the draft and I keep reminding myself of the definition of insanity- doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Maybe we should try to upgrade the secondary this time (with someone higher than a 4th rounder) because I'd be willing to venture that would improve our pass rush for our already 4 #1 pick LBs.

Also kinda like the Legion of Doom losing at home to a division rival, if the Rams are even a rival and the Hawks got killed....crickets on that front

Here's a great article on the breakdown of sacks by position this season: http://www.Invalid Link - Check SN ...steelers-five-year-high-sack-total-was-built/

It's a 5 year high, blitzing or not, I'd rather be 3rd in the league at generating sacks than 20+.

15 DL
15 OLB
10 ILB
8 Secondary

I was happy to see the secondary get sacks this year. The corner blitz has reopened, and is a good tool to use situationally.

Even Atlanta beat the undefeated Carolina Panthers. Division opponents, no matter how bad they are, draft and scheme to play the teams in their division. They know each other the best and get to play them twice. Is it inexcusable to lose to a division opponent that has a terrible record? Sure it is, but I understand why it happens if they do.

Last Steelers playoff win: 1/23/2011
Today's date: 1/5/2016

"Zero playoff wins in the last four seasons" would be a more accurate statement, but 4 years and 347 days is pretty close to 5 years, last time I checked.

THEY HAD TO GAMBLE to try and get sacks because their busts at OLB can't sack a kitty - ha ha - so yeah - blitz the secondary - we know they can't cover the pass

I don't care about the talking heads nor should any of you since they are insignificant as to the success of this football team. All that matters is what occurs on the field and the final score. It all starts this weekend and my focus is pointed toward obstacle one, The Bengels. Nothing else matters now.

Cincy is getting punched in the mouth Saturday night, again.

I've said this before, Our STEELERS seem to step up to the challenge. The bungles dude with the painted house, will suddenly find the right color and paint over it.

Salute the nation

I'm just saying --
•they lost a Super Bowl to an unconscious Aaron Rodgers.
•They lost a playoff game with Ben playing on one leg, their nearly 3 time in a row 1000 rusher (Mendenhall) out with torn ACL going into it and lost Hampton and Starks to ACL tears in that game with Keisel hurt too.
•They lost their best player last year in Bell with a knee injury right before the game - If he were healthy do you really think Manning and his bum leg could stop us?
•And they were a bunch of bullshit calls in the KC vs. SD game from being a playoff team 2 years ago as the Steelers were on an 8-4 run to end the year.

5 years = is actually 2 games at this point. Wow, they haven't won in 5 years, they had two ******* games..... and it's totally dismissing the fact the team hasn't had the chance to play their game this week.

The team has nearly rivaled their rebuilding on the fly of 1998-2000/2001 by going from 12-4 in 2011, a pair of 8-8 seasons to a division championship in 2014 and another playoff season in 2015. Lord forgive me but Jesus Christ, going a few years without a playoff win while overhauling your roster is damn ******* impressive.

And if anyone has a problem with that, they can kiss my rudy poo candy ***.

1) Nobody is griping about the loss in the Super Bowl against Green Bay, because obviously, it was two weeks after their last playoff win. Not really relevant for the other 4 years and 333 days.

2) You're actually going to defend a loss to an 8-8 Denver team who had dropped its last three games of the regular season (including losing by 26 to a 6-10 Bills team and scoring 3 points at home to 7-9 Kansas City) led by Tim Tebow, who was 6-22 for 60 yards the week before? Unreal.

3) Not really sure what Manning has to do with losing a home playoff game to the Ravens.

4) Right, those pesky refs from some other game (which had the 8-8 Steelers' playoff hopes pinned to a bunch of the Chiefs' second-stringers) were the main reason there was no playoff win in 2013. Sure.

What you fail to acknowledge is: Had the favored Jets simply been able to win last Sunday, the Steelers wouldn't even have had the chance to play at all this week.

Sorry -- with a franchise quarterback in his prime for five seasons, mustering only two playoff games which both resulted in losses and having a trip to the 2015 postseason gifted from Rex Ryan might be "damn ******* impressive" to your candy ***, but not to me.

Hopefully, Tomlin will have his second "successful season," if you will, and quiet his doubters. I'll be the first one to shut up.

The NFL and the media hate this team, and they always have. We wear Black and hit hard. They want teams like NE, DAL and SF that wear bright colors and throw the ball on every down. "Glamour" QBs cheerleaders and hype. Not a QB who looks like a cro-magnon and receivers who block. They absolutely hate that we're the team with six rings. Anybody but us, and they'd be happy. Except one other team. If it makes you feel any better, they hate the Raiders more.

LOL! Dude. You can't say failure is impressive. Excusable? Sure. Impressive? No!

And again, to everyone, every NFL team has "overhauled" or "rebuilt" its roster since the Steelers last won a playoff game. That's not an excuse. It's a league of short careers and free agency.

We run a 3-4. Losing 2 of your 3 starting DLs in the first half is the reason why we couldn't get pressure on Tebow in the second half.
