There's a link to all corners drafted in the past drafts. I know the Steelers have missed one quite a few but it seems hardly any corners from the first round have turned out to be worth anything. LOTS of busts on the list. Seems to be a league wide problem a long with how hard it has came to play the position due to the NFL wanting scoring.

Very true...not easy pickings.

A good reason to go and get one in free agency / a proven commodity

go in another direction in round 1

How many are let go to test free agency? Revis? We can't afford him.

Two of the game's best CBs right now in Richard Sherman and Josh Norman were drafted in the fifth round. There are always good CBs in the draft, though there are bust taken early, as there are at just about every position on defense.

Agreed!

I was gonna say I know who on that list I don't want.

I really like Norman but something tells me he isn't going anywhere.

I'd rather get a pass rusher or two in free agency. We are in such desperate need of pressure on the QB

I am ok with that. I think with Dupree in the fold it would only be one...

But hell one corner and one pass rusher

would do wonders..

Weather it's through the draft or free agency, can we please get a corner that is taller than 5'9"?

For the last few years I always thought this will be the year we dip into FA on a 2nd tier CB or two. And every year I am left disappointed. Will most likely be disappointed again this off season also. Mind boggling to me they won't try to fix this area through FA.

I'll simply take one with some coverage/ tackling skills.

Desmond Trufant would look pretty good instead of Jarvis Jones.

Tell me this isn't a ******* mock draft thread.

sign Sean Smith 4 yr 18 mill thats the market val
Leon hall 2 years 4.8 mill thats
Will gay 2 years 3.68 mill
Weddle 3 years 10 mill
Boyeken 2 years 3.5 mill
Foster 2 years 4 .6 mill
will allen 2 years 2.8 mill
thats a start in fixing the gaping holes where there are to many bandaids

restructure mitchell, miller, Gilbert" pouncey to open up enough cap room to extend beachum to a 6 or 7 year extension 40 million
" Cortez, cutting cortez will leave 3 years of dead cap money, which is not worth it considering we have a few years still to pay woodley, who may get to the sb while being payed by us, Raiders and min by AZ.

these moves and drafting the BPA DB or NT in rnd 1, bpa g or S in rnd 2 will get us moving, I hear that Cravens hybrid lb s has drawn some comparisons to troy

that could you top end ol back with beachum foster pouncey Decastro Gilbert
And a DB crop of
CB Smith CB hall or cortez NB Golsen, Gay also at S Dime CB Grant st 3-2-6 perhaps if we get a s like cravens or play golden over the top or in the cover 2.
With Ben aging the time has come to spend, or it may cost Colbert his job if he feeds Ben, brown, bell, Bryant another sad sack crop of db`s where its always week in week out going to be on these 3 to win it or carry the team, aside from Heyward, Tuitt, Timmons and (shazier) who still is in a learning curve esp after missing almost .5 of last year and a handful of games this year, he has show he can be a play maker somehow colbert and kahn will have to spend money early in fa and not sit until the big spenders are done and then address our needs from the scrap heap.

It's obviously not a Steelers problem as it is proven a league wide problem. Another part of the equation is the NFL wanting more points to be scored, taking away what a good DB can or can't do to a receiver and their ability to play defense. Also, the collective bargaining agreement makes it harder for coaches and personnel to develop the way they used to. The Steelers should up the ante and pick up an above average DB in the offseason. However, they won't.

Like like how you think but besides Gay they probably would only sign one corner if they went that route.

I like Smith .....and Weddle would be a upgrade over Allen..(I think he needs a switch of teams to revive his career)

Smith would be my first choice of the ones you mentioned...

so with our cap situation, we need in the summer to extend timmons as Spence is not quick enough or as strong at the point of attack, but should be back as a rotating LB. Lets just sign 2 DB's and focus, the rest via the draft, Sean Smith good sized, physical CB, will give us what we expected out of Cortez, if he agrees to take a pay-cut since he has done **** since getting the extension, it will give us 2 physical well sized WR, that in this division will be very helpful, to cover AJ Green and Aiken. Golsen was a ball hawk and with more spread formations he could be a perfect type of CB to cut undernat out and slant routes typically run by guys like Beckham, Edelman, Brown, Benjamin, Smith SR. Perfect to work in the slot for a heavy work load, Grant is raw so, bringing back Boyken for a year or 2 to play when 6 db's are on can help, as Boyken can play man to man, press, if Butler lets the bigger CB press Cortez, Boyken and Gay all can press.
I Would bring gay back cheap and, I feel he likes being in B&G and won't leave more more $$ give him avg vet back up cash and he will likely accept, and if so try in mini camp experiment him as a S so if we fail to get a suitable starter like Weddle you could play gay at Fs and Mitchell at SS. Just a cheap but viable scenerio.

guys whose salary fall into consideration for paycuts/reworked deals
Pouncey
Ben
Heyward
Gilbert
Cortez remember all those who want him cut he would count 3 years vs the cap, he would get signed and we still would be paying him.

these 5, we need a few to take pay cuts to help bring Beachum back, we saw in the past 2 games Villineuva is not a long term solution to protect ben.

Height doesn't define a great corner...agility, footwork, reaction and athleticism. One of the biggest criticisms that rose from Chip Kelly was that he, like you, wanted corners that were a specific height or taller. Theres big corners that don't amount to **** in the league

The biggest factor as demonstrated by the *Pats and Seahawks is the ability to clutch and grab your opponent without getting flagged. CBs drafted late must rely on this technique in lieu of actual coverage skills to make it in the NFL.

How is Norman 28. I never heard of him, until this year.

Face it he gained some notoriety going all mma on OBJ. But he's a good one....physical though, which doesn't fit our mold......

Or at least engage at the LOS instead of the traditional 10 yard cushion.

The jam..... I remember the success with Cortez against the Pats game that one year. seems like it was/is rare for our corners not to play off.

Whatever it takes to take on that scheme, new corners new D coach...... a change in that direction IMO with a better pass rush could be like night and day for the D.
