Black Monday for Head Coaches

I saw an article that said Lovie Smith might be fired. I don't buy it, but if true, he would jump right to the top of my list. I believe that guy gets more from less than any coach in the league.

I'll just tell you that you are full of **** and go find it yourself.

So you expect a coach throughout his career to have not one single former player have something negative to say about him? lol

Only because cincy is cheap. In another city Lewis would have been fired long ago.

I think Lewis is a pretty good coach. I mean the Bengals organization had been pretty disfunctional for a while. He had to deal with ocho cinco, pacman, other off field issues, and poor drafts. If he coached the Steelers I think he would have a better record and playoff record.

You can't win in the nfl with a college system.

In the right place, Kelly can be a good coach because all he does is football. As long as he learned from his first job and doesn't command personnel control, I think he has a chance to succeed with his second job. However, I think he needs at least a year away to fully grasp what changes are necessary.

He might be similar to a Belicheat situation, who sucked with Cleveland initially, then went on to NE.

so Kelly would come to the Burgh then start finding every way possible to cheat to gain a edge?

Lewis is an ULTRA CONSERVATIVE coach. It's why they don't win in the playoffs. It's why they choose to punt so damn much on the opponent's side of the field instead of taking risks, is the big reason why they don't advance. I'll take a few gut shots from my coach's gut calls over a gutless coach ANY DAY!

No way would I want Kelly as the head coach of the PITTSBURGH STEELERS, no matter what the cineol. Smith / Dungy / what about panthers DC? all possibilities and satisfy the rooney rule. Just saying as I realize tomlin isn't going anywhere.

Salute the nation

That's what I was thinking. If he goes to the right organization that can embrace his style, he has a chance to be an excellent coach.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Mike Tomlin: 2

Tomlin isn't going anywhere. He signed a contract extension in the offseason, making him one of the league's highest-paid coaches. He has never had a losing season. He still carries the cachet of two Super Bowl appearances and one championship. The only reason Tomlin is not a 1 here is because the Steelers are in danger of missing the playoffs for the third time in four years. If left out, that would be five years without a playoff win. Tomlin is 1-5 in his last six meetings with Baltimore. But overall, things are very stable. It's hard to argue with a .636 career winning percentage. -- Jeremy Fowler

Most coaching contracts are guaranteed so the team has to pay after they are fired, unless they get another coaching job. Then the ex-team is off the hook in most cases. This is why so many coaches take a year off and do TV after they get fired. It allows them to collect 2 paychecks, from the old team and from TV.

It gives them the time to wait for a good job instead of the first job that comes along. A guy like Kelly has to decide if he wants to stay in the NFL. If he does, then he may have to take the first NFL job that comes. Because he may not get any other offers.

If Kelly wants to go back to college then he should sit out a year and wait for the job he wants. Texas is probably giving Charlie Strong only 1 more year. Texas is the best job in college by far. They have the deepest pockets and you are in the best recruiting area in the country. You can get any Texas recruit you want and also recruit nationally.

USC hired their interim coach to replace Sarkisian. I don't think they'd fire him this year to bring in Chip but if he has a bad year then i can see them offering Chip the job.

Brian Kelly of Notre Dame has said he wants to go to the NFL someday. He's done a good job at ND so it could happen.

THIS JUST IN: Colts do not plan to retain Chuck Pagano at end of season, barring playoff berth. (via @MikeWellsNFL)

Maybe Pagano is mob and he can come in and scare these stiffs straight.

I would never want Chip Kelly as the stillers coach, however, I would welcome him to come in and replace Franklin @ PSU in a heartbeat. Him coaching against Harbaugh and Myers each year ... that'd be a lotta fun to watch.

Pettine was garbage. All that drama with Manziel and the party pictures.

You don't bench a guy because he hurt your feelings. That's just stupid. I'm more surprised than anything that Manziel can actually play pro ball, he looked like a smaller Tebow coming out of college.

The Browns have been a mess their entire life as an expansion team, and I don't see that changing any time soon. No savior coach or magic draft pick is going to save them. Look at the Colts. They drafted "the greatest QB prospect in a generation" who looks more and more like an overrated bust every year. It takes a team, a front office, good ownership to build a champion. These Tomlin haters have NO IDEA how good they have it with The Steelers.

I think it will be Bevell from Seattle and Haley up for the Giants and Indy Job. Those are the two plumb jobs and I think there is no way Big Blue wants a college guy. I think they will lean towards Haley as he has experience working with Roethlisberger at a similar point in his career. I think Tom Cable should get another chance.

Add Jim Tomsula to the list...

.@49ers announce Jim Tomsula has been relieved of duties as head coach: http://on.nfl.com/22GmDtN

That's the thing, a lot of people want to fire Shades but you can always end up with someone worse like the 49'ers did after they fired Hairball.

If Kelly wants to go to Texas they fire the mediocre Strong in a New York minute, he will not go down there, he will want to be in a better conference, could see him at South Carolina, etc.

Tom Coughlin given the boot. Just seen on ESPN feed. No link yet
