Black Monday is coming up for NFL head coaches, but the Eagles didn't want to wait.

Today, Jeffrey Lurie, Chairman and CEO of the Philadelphia Eagles, released Head Coach Chip Kelly.

“We appreciate all the contributions that Chip Kelly made and wish him every success going forward,” said Lurie.

Coach Pat Shurmur will be interim head coach for Sunday’s game against the New York Giants.

Ed Marynowitz, vice president of player personnel, was also released. Tom Donahoe, former GM of the Buffalo Bills and director of football operations for the Pittsburgh Steelers and senior football advisor for the Eagles since 2012, will assume the role of senior director of player personnel.

A press conference will be held Wednesday, December 30 at the NovaCare Complex at Noon with Lurie.

Lurie wasn't afraid to pull the trigger. But Rooney will hold on to tomlineptitude forever.

Different situations. Kelly absolutely decimated that roster.

Yeah say what you will about Tomlin but I've never heard any player on his roster say anything negative about him. Chip Kelly lost his locker room a long time ago.

Shocker. lol He learned the hard way that you can't treat pro athletes like college athletes.

Tomlin had to turn over the ENTIRE defense. Personnel wise, we're solid and young with our front 7. Our secondary is atrocious. Ben is still in the meat of his prime and the rest of the team is quite young.

Tomlin ain't going nowhere, and this is just the beginning. He won't leave without at least 2 more rings.

What's worse - decimating a roster or embarrassing yourself with a really good one?

The first because at least with the second there is hope because you have a good roster. Kelly had a good roster and traded away his best players.

Chip Is GONE

The Eagles fired Chip Kelly Tuesday night.

A short team release announced that team chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie had released Kelly. The team announced a Wednesday press conference.

Pat Shurmur will be the interim coach for Sunday’s season finale.

“We appreciate all the contributions that Chip Kelly made and wish him every success going forward,” Lurie said in the statement.

That Mike Tomlin won't leave here with three championship rings

If they add some talent to the defense this will easily be the best team in football

I think Mike would have same fate if
1. We don't make it in....but we will!!
2. He didn't have the contract he has.

Chip is probably the only coach I wouldn't want to replace Cool Shades

What about the almost annual parade of former stain head coaches? Would you want Mangina?

I think we all knew that Chip was gonna go but I'm surprised they did it before the season was over.

Lurie created that clusterfuck by telling Kelly he could do whatever the hell he wanted. That was a huge mistake.

If Ben is in the meat of his prime then the team needs to start making some serious post season appearances. Mike Tomlin has once again turned this team into over hyped false hope. The steelers can be a team that beats the best but loses to the worst of the league

Thank god Kelly will only got as close to Heinz as the Pitt Locker Room.

Don't think he'll sniff another HC job in the NFL.

Get outta here with all that rational thinking and sensible outlook. That's not welcomed around here. lol.
