Why do the Steelers expose Blake so often in coverage?

I thought Boykin did an adequate job of tackling, and only got beaten badly in coverage on one play. I cannot say the same for Blake.
 
Blake isn't great but he looks even worse now than he did at any point this or last season.
He is definitely hurt and doesn't even attempt to wrap up on tackles.
Boykin has earned the snaps.. he's been ready to go when given the limited opportunities.
 
A 5'9 guy that needs a huge cushion and attempts to tackle guys twice his size by throwing a shoulder??? Please, get this guy off the field ASAP. If he's the 4-5 CB on the team ok, Blske is not starting material and def shouldn't be trying to cover #1 WRs of opponents.

Yes. Kind of wish we kept McCain in free agency and did not spend a 4th or 5th round pick on Boykin.

If we make the playoffs, I fear Blake's going to have a Tim McKyer moment.

The loss to the Chargers in 1994 was quite possibly the worst non-Super Bowl loss of all time. We outplayed them big time, then McKyer badly beaten for a 43-yard touchdown pass. We outgained San Diego 415 yards to 226 yards but lost. The cost was the super bowl. Sure San Fran was great that year, but we would have been a live under dog.
 
All Blake needs is a siren, and flashing blue light on top of his helmet.
 
If we are smart enough to use Boykin more, and can get him to return fairly cheap/reasonable then he is well worth the 5th. Those are 2 gigantic ifs tho, and Boykin I am sure would like more of a shot, one he could get somewhere else.

I liked McCain too but he probably got paid more than he was worth to us. The majority of the problem was handing the job to Blake, a dime back. Taking 2 CBs in the first 4 rounds with no production was probably not in the plan either.

Possibly at the time, but I would have felt MUCH better about entering the season with McCain as the starter instead of Blake and in that case, he wouldn't have been worth too much.

Dolphins felt like 2 years at 5.5 million with $3M guarantee was ok. Heck, I thought the RFA deal on Blake was too much tho.
 
We all know he sucks the blame should be squarely on Tomlin for keep rolling him out. Doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results is the definition of insanity. When you have a moron as head coach these issues are repeated yearly, see Jonathan Scott, Cortez Allen and SeanMahan, all Tomlin players he started over and over.

Sean Mahan who was here for one year? Tomlins first year as HC.?

Then the Steelers pissed away a 6th on Scobee and a 5th on a player seldom used. Oh well at least we got Cockrell for nothing and Boswell for nothing.

The Cortez Allen deal bothered me from day one. A real kick in the salry cap's pants. Our evluation of DB's is hurting. Suposeldy Tomlin's forte was the DB positon, We'll see if Golson can play or not. He's a shade under 5'9" tall and rather light. He should fit right in with the guys.

I think I remember Cortez being removed from the lineup last year with Blake replacing him...
Also, who was on the bench at the time that should have been playing instead of Scott and Mahan?

Last question, don't you have some Tom Brady film you should be watching?
 
Cortez has talent but he seems to have lost all confidence. Maybe if Tomlin supported him the way he supports Blake then he's be a player now.

Blake must be the world's best practice player because based on games, i don't see why they trust him so much.
 
Worried about Boykin's tackling? Boykin missed 4 tackles all of last year in 524 snaps, which was tied for 18th/108 CBs that played at least 25% of their team's snaps.

Compare that to Blake, who has 26 MT in 801 snaps ranking him 116/116, second worst being Dre Kirkpatrick with 15 in 846 snaps.

Right now Boykin has played 104 snaps and missed 1 tackle.

Bunch of bullshit.

it's more than just tackles. The thing is... you all have been spoiled beyond belief. For years upon years Ike Taylor erased half the damn defensive backfield. That has exposed a pretty big white-hot light on the Steelers corners. Now the corners look like they've returned back to the Chad Scott and Dewayne Washington era (pre-IT for all you younguns). Even in his last season, Taylor was doing well and yet many here were ready to pull the trigger and "make a change". Welcome to the change, it sucks.

Boink, Allen, Blake all seem pretty damn interchangeable as far as their suckitude goes so, i don't get what all the uproar is about. Maybe you have an itchy trigger finger again and would like to see Boink be the one getting roasted? but where would that get us? food for thought.
 
Blake is abysmal, no odea why noykin doesnt play more.... The stats and the eye test agree that he is a superior coverage guy and misses fewer tackles...

Cortez has the size and ball skills, but doesn't change directions quickly, and lacks long-range speed. As such he's suspect in man coverage.

I think he might be better off at free safety

And you revisionists forget Tomlin also cut his *** after about a month of play. I'm not defending Mahan (he's the worst starter to ever suit up in black and gold IMHO), but Tomlin didn't keep him all season or pretend he was better than garbage.
