Why do the Steelers expose Blake so often in coverage?

If I had my way, Blake would be riding the bench by now. Yet I often see him left alone in coverage. If the Steelers are to play Blake, shouldn't he get more help by design?

The matchup vs. Green was terrible, and the safety was too deep and far away to help him.

Read somewhere they are worried about Boykin not being a good tackler. Should be all hands on deck when one guy is getting burnt.

I was shocked to see him covering Green. Is he really the best we have to cover their top receiver? Got smoked on a long TD by the backup QB.

Blake is a sub par tackler as well. In fact he missed the most tackles on the team by a good margin.

That's what I don't understand either Coach. Maybe the talent level requires that he play but why is he lined up anywhere near Green ?

Yesterday was baffling. They played Boykin like last week but used Blake instead of Cockrell. WTF are they thinking? Blake is the worst of the bunch yet they refuse to bench him.

Tomlin's Jedi mind trick worked on the Gay pick six. I'll trade that with the Green TD any game. The other was in garbage time, so doesn't count.

Big win for the D, especially with the redheaded stepchild sidelined.

While every position on defense is important, Cornerback is a position you can not afford to show loyalty to.

Blake struggles to cover, and tackle. He has been a major liability out there. In such as circumstance, it makes sense to play someone else.

Cockrell, Boykin, or Grant. They can't be any worse and just might be a bit better.

Either way, I'm dumbfounded on why the Steelers continue to leave their achilles heel exposed. The flim on Blake is very bad, and every QB and receiver in the NFL knows it.

Yep this whole scenario makes no sense

Blake shouldn't be on the field period. But when he is, isn't it obvious you want your bigger, better cover guy (Cockrell) on AJ Green?

Sure we may be worried about Boykin's tackling, but Blake can't tackle either. Even if Blake is a better tackler than Boykin (which I doubt), the gap between Boykin's coverage and Blake's FAR outweighs the gap between their tackling ability. This one will never, ever make sense to me. Ever. If we don't win the SB this year, then until the day I die, if anyone ever asks me what I remember most about the 2015 season, it will be the mystery of Brandon Boykin

..............Boykin ( ended up with 39 snaps) ?

Actually Boykin played more than Blake but there's no way to tell what formations were given to whom...

Grant......0................2 / 7% (ST)

Blake.....31 / 53%......6 / 21% (ST)

Boykin...39 / 67%.....14 / 48% (ST)

Cockrell..46 / 79%......0

Gay........48 / 83%......4 / 14% (ST)

Now that I see this, Boykin was in for more plays (counting ST's) than any of them...

Blake continues to show me week in and week out, that he is not an NFL caliber starting CB. He continues to be burned on double moves and head shakes and continues to look like he's on roller skates, by losing field positioning through poor footwork. He is a liability and we have 2 better options already to replace him on the field. I don't mind him in the dime, but I no longer want him on the field in the base or nickel.

I know the secondary is suspect, I would like to see tackling after the catch instead of allowing 15 more yards. Give up the pass fine, but tackle.

Green gets match up with Blake because the Steelers are not matching up certain guys with other teams WRs. If Green lines up on Blake's side that's what the match-up is. We have no shut down guy like Ike who followed their No1 guy.

The Steelers continue to play Blake because of his willingness to tackle in the run game IMO. Yes he misses but his willingness to put his nose in there is probably while he is still getting the nod over Boykin. Especially in base formations. If Boykin shows a willingness to tackle and be physical in the run game IE take on blocks, set the edge when needed, make tackles then they will start him over Blake. The Steelers ask their DBs to do this which is why Blake still gets the nod over Boykin.

Blake has some sort of injury, but I'm never putting him one v one with Green.

So I ran into Antwan Blake last week at a jam night. He was playing keyboards and singing stuff I've never heard. So, I grabbed a guitar and tried to play some songs with him. I asked him if he knew Mustang Sally. He said no. Gimmie Three Steps, again he said no. Finally I asked him if he knew Folsom Prison Blues. He sighed and said no. Turns out he really can't cover anything.

Why are Atwaan Blake's kids always cold? Because he can't keep them covered.

Two things:

Ike Taylor played better then Blake yesterday and the man is retired.

Secondly I am sick and tired of watching Blake run down the field clapping his hands like he's trying to catch a fart in the air. Get the man off the damn field.

Other teams see him and they burn us every time.

If they are unwilling take him off the field then at least change the guys number. Maybe we can fool a young QB.

lol

He's terrible in coverage and because of his broken hand he can't tackle **** either. I'd rather watch Doran Grant get burnt if we had to choose.

I'm not advocating that we have a CB who follows the other team's #1 receiver around every week, because we don't have that guy on the roster, I agree

But what I AM saying is that if you have a superstar WR on the other side, and he is very tall, and you also have a tall CB starting, shouldn't you make sure that is the matchup you get?

Blake and Allen need to be backups. Which safety got the pick? Golden of course. Yeah, let him rot on the bench like Boykin.

I honestly don't see how he could possibly be a worse tackler than Blake. Isn't Blake like listed as one of the worst tackling CBs in the NFL? Doesn't he lead in missed tackles? How on earth could they claim
Boink doesn't see the field over tackling issues, yet Blake plays and is pathetic at tackling? Makes no sense. I feel Boink doesn't see the field because he doesn't kiss Tomlin's ring enough. I really feel that
is what it is.
