Down by three the Vikings try to pass on third and long while they were in field goal range foe Blair Walsh. During the third down play Bridgewater is strip sacked and Cards win...

So much dumbassary in the NFL.

I gotta say, if I were a Vikings fan right now, I might be more frustrated by that ending than any boneheaded Tomlin move

I'd read somewhere recently that Zimmer already has a reputation among Viking fans for questionable-to-bad decisions.

This was a perfect example of that.

Well they could not run they had no timeouts. I probably would have kicked the field goal on third down. Of course they were trying to pick up a few more yards with a quickout to the sideline,it was after all a 48 yard attempt. When is it time for the player to take blame? Any frigging rookie would know that no way in hell do you take a sack there. Or you have to throw it away. I mean come on.

Every NFL coach has a reputation among some of their fans for dumb moves.

He was in the throwing motion, it's not like he was trying to avoid the pressure and just coughed up the ball...

Hate to say it but turnovers pretty much killed the Minnie Vikes.
Two good drives were killed by fumbles alone.

Well, and you just have to give props to Freeney for doing what he's done countless times before.

Tomlin made the call in the superbowl to pass on first and goal instead of running Lynch...

I didn't have a problem with Carrol's call as if Lynch gets stopped short, they are forced to use their final TO and then more or less forced to throw or risk losing because the clock runs out.

Exactly, because the mindset of the fan is to remember and blame the coach only when these types of decisions don't work. The same way people think they "always" just miss a certain stoplight on the drive to work. A smooth drive to work is not memorable or noteworthy, but the anguish of just missing a light is. Also why people think they "always" choose the slow checkout lane at the supermarket. This also explains why Steeler fans are bitching about Haley / Ben throwing deep on 3rd and short...they don't "credit" the decision when it works (that just goes into the mental pile labeled "Yeehaw, my Steelers rule" and the details are quickly forgotten), but when it doesn't work they get pissed.

Had the Vikings tried the field goal on 3rd down and missed, fans would be blaming the coach for playing it safe and "settling" for a 49-yard field goal. Regardless of hindsight, the risk of running a play with 13 seconds left and no timeouts was probably not worth getting a few yards closer for the field goal. There was no wind, the field was in great condition and their kicker is good and had already made a 54-yarder. On top of that, the Vikings pass offense is not exactly equal to Tom Brady working with a healthy complement of receivers...Teddy and his WR crew are not at the point where they should be trusted in that situation.

Two peas from the same pod.

I saw Mauro making some plays for Arizona. Tomlin cut the dude.

Cards signed him off the practice squad.

That happens to every team in the league.

Pats intercepted the ball with 1:42 on the clock. They were in a goal to go situation. They could have huddled and used the full clock without using a timeout. They had plenty of time to run 4 conventional plays with one time out to set up the FG if needed.

Other than Bridgewater taking the sack, I had no problem with the decision to call a pass play at that point.
Go for the win, not the tie -- makes a statement that you trust your Offense to win the game. There was enough time on the clock to allow for a shot.

I thought on the whole it was a good, competitive game from both sides.

I don't think the Vikings were thinking "let's win the game here" at all. I think they were solely aiming for a closer field goal.

Even so, I don't believe it was a bad call. Bridgewater just showed his inexperience not recognizing the pressure. He could have just thrown the ball away before the sack.

But the head coach was fully aware of Bridgewater's inexperience --- doesn't that fall on him?

At some point you have to put some trust in your players and hope that they have grown/matured enough to handle the position.
I don't think that the end of last night's game was the point where you just say... nevermind that.

I needed more points from Fitz in OT. Thanks for screwing me vikes!

Well obviously he had to make a quick throw or if seeing nothing throw it away. I don't know what you saw but it certainly was not a quick 2-3 step drop back and throw which it should have been. The only plays you can not do in that situation is take a sack or throw it to the middle of the field. Like I said a quickout.
