I just looked this up. In games where Ben has started and finished (including the Browns) he is averaging 375 passing yards per game, over 16 games that is 6008. the Nfl record held by Manning is 5477. Even if you take Ben down to 350 a game allowing for a couple bad games he still crushes that record.
The thing that makes this so impressive is Ben is not throwing little dump offs like Manning, Brady or Brees. Everyone want's to talk about how great AB is, (and he is) But watching Ben last night for 95% of the time he was throwing darts and that should make it pretty easy for your receiver to look great.

Ben does have some GREAT receivers, but some people need to remember who is reading the coverage's, running around buying time and for the most part putting the ball right on the money. It's gonna be a very sad day in the Smith house when #7 hangs them up.

Agree 200% This team is nothing without Ben. Sorry Terry, Ben will be remembered as the Best QB in Steelers history. Best reciever in the game and the Best rb in the game still would not be championship material without Ben.

Collinsworth and Michaels threw out that stat last night. Collinsworth was nut hugging the Steelers WR corps likely amazed at the plays and wishing he were 26 years old again and wearing a Steelers uniform with Ben Roeth as QB!

How 'bout that? Collinsworth, regularly criticized on the board over the years for being "Steeler-hater," was gushing about the black and gold throughout the game.

And Michaels, too, in his own way.

The wins, the amazing numbers are great. But we need consistency even from #7. Hes done very well these past two seasons and hes shown he can sling it with the best in the game.... but there are games like the Jets last season, and then games like Cincy with 3 INTs, and key drive killers like last week vs SEA.

We go as Ben goes........if he plays like **** or has some mental breakdowns, we lose--and subsequently the board blames the coach. If he plays spectactular, last night is the result. Last night, he was in one of those zones. He talks about that chemistry and it shows with players like Wheaton especially. Wheaton was a minimally effective figure before last week. Now, look at him. The fact he is now a key contributor makes this offense as dangerous and potent as its ever been because now a defense has to account for another receiver. As if Brown and Bryant weren't enough. Secondaries just don't have enough talent to cover us. When Ben clicks like last night. we could destroy everybody, Patriots, Panthers included. I mean look at what we did to Seattle ...now, look at what Seattle did to Minnesota (defensively)

This team still hasn't played a complete game.....and that has the league ******** its collective pants....I hope the best is yet to come

Yet gets no credit during the week, Eli Manning is looked at as a star and Ben is not mentioned in topic.

Both announcers said, looking back on Ben's draft class, they would take Ben over the others. Although, Michaels did hesitate for a bit before saying Ben.

He's never received the credit he deserves in the media and I'm okay with that. He's our superstar and right now he's the best QB in the league, throwing to the best WR corps in the league. If the suits don't want to bring it up because he's big and ugly or has rape allegations in his past or whatever, then oh well. Doesn't make our offense any less lethal

One area Roethlisberger has improved throughout his career, and has mastered the last couple seasons, is hitting WRs in stride on the deep throws down the sideline. That was the one part of the route tree he really struggled with earlier in his career. He would often throw it late and the receivers would have to wait for it.

He has greatly enhanced both his timing and vision from the pocket, as well, as he's come a long way from the one read and resort to sand lot player he was his first few seasons.

Todd Haley deserves a lot of credit, as he has gradually broken a lot of the bad tendencies Ben once had.

I agree. Haley took a lot of **** early on and I think over time he's really worked well with Ben and ultimately the two of them have just begun to unleash Roethlisberger's talent.

Ben can call his own plays at the line. I'm pretty sure Haley's got something going with Ben like Peyton had, three plays lined up and the QB audibles to the best one at the time based on what he sees in the defensive formation. But that's huge. That gives Ben and the offense a ton of flexibility and still constrains things a bit so they have a construct to work within and manage everything and stay organized.

Course that makes the QB look like a golden God, seemingly calling his own plays at the line and marching the team down the field in the no-huddle while the OC stands there looking useless. However, quietly, he's feeding three play suggestions into the headset that the QB can choose from every now and then and keeping things moving along.

No, I rather like Haley. I think he's done just enough with the disciplining of Ben and turning him in to a "pocket QB" and just enough "turning him loose" that we're seeing one of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game. I mean really, you watch him in the games and he's pretty impressive. The toughness, the long balls, the determination... but then you look at his stats and you're astounded. You can't believe how good he really is. He just sort of quietly amasses these not only H.O.F. numbers but bonafide All-Time Great numbers and it's done right before your eyes.

Every time he throws one of those 20+ yard balls while Peyton or T*m or Brees tosses a 6 yarder, Ben is pushing his legacy farther. Ya, Br*dy has gaudy stats that are utterly bullshit because he's cheated his entire career and everyone and their ******* dog knows it. Peyton is the greatest cerebral QB to ever play the game and truly his stats are amazing, but ultimately, it's a testament to Ben that he compares right up there with Peyton and he's played for far less than him. Rodgers is also a stud, I can't take anything away from him, but he doesn't have the numbers Ben does yet. He had to wait behind Favre for awhile and in time I'm sure he'll also have a strong career but when you look at the flat out dominance of Ben's numbers across the board there's simply no comparison. Yards per attempt, yards per completion, total yards, completion percentage, QB rating over his career, The guy is a complete stud.

Most telling is how our "world class receivers" did while Ben was out. AB, who no doubt is an amazing receiver, was completely invisible while Vick was playing and he wasn't too impressive under Landry's watch either. It was only when Ben came back that Brown once again flourished into his usual uber-dangerous self. It's true, Ben can run hot and cold. He does have his off weeks, particularly after injury. However, the truth is, this offense is NOT high powered without Ben Roethlisberger. It's utterly pedestrian. And that's being generous.

D'Angelo Williams has been a HUGE pickup. I love the guy. I love Bell too. I am worried that he's been injured twice in 3 years, both of them pretty serious. But I think he's a pretty good back. However, Williams has more than filled in. He's come in and proven to be starter quality. I say you absolutely pick that guy's contract up as he's become a pretty critical piece in the puzzle. Between the very real threat of a run game and the even greater threat of a passing game with Roethlisberger and these receivers, it's undoubtedly a nightmare for defensive coordinators. Unless you're the Rams and you just plan on injuring other team's QBs...

Hell, he's never received the credit he deserves from this board either. Remember, he's too dumb, can't throw receivers open, has poor anticipation, not very accurate... all things I've read about Ben from posts on this very board.

Both Ben and Haley has been at times had trade and fire comments thrown out by a few here and there.

But even for the biggest hater they have to see the production the two have them have thrown out.

Steelers are winning because of the two..... more than anything else....

If Ben would have played 16 games he might have broken down the MVP door and forced the league to aknowledge him. Then again, they would probably move the bar and still give it to Newton.

one way to shut them up and point a finger towards Ben...

just win baby !

I think you're exactly on point here, Punx. That was always my criticism of Ben in the past. We'd watch the likes of Brady and Manning hit their receivers in stride, but Ben would "buy time", and when he did finally throw it, it seems more often than not, the receiver was flat footed and nobody was within 3 yards. The past couple years, he's been letting his receivers make a play on the ball instead of handing it to them giftwrapped. I don't know if we should credit Haley for that or not.

Cam can have the MVP trophy. I would rather Ben raise the Lombardi trophy.

I always figured Toddster would be a better OC than The Bruce.

I'll take Ben over any QB in the game.. and that's all I have to say about that.
