They are playing a lot of two high safety. Now for the first 7 games or so you saw a whole different blitz package for the first time. Now 3/4 of the way through all those blitzes are on tape. They are getting picked up and the middle of the field is like a ripe piece of fruit to be picked. Carr, Manziel and Wilson all had season if not career days. And those aren't top end passers.

Yep it's scary what happens to our D when blitzes are picked up. We're completely hapless on the back end. We really need Shazier in there and playing and rushing the passer

We gave up a lot of yards at the beginning of the season but kept the opposition out of the end zone somehow. The dam has broke. Bend but don't break is bullshit - much like prevent.

Boykin needs to start in place of blake.....take out will Allen and out in Golden....lets if that works.

Not saying that player changes won't help, don't know. But unless you get pressure on those blitzes either getting home or at least forcing the early throw, you will get torched in the middle with cover two. The problem with cover two is that you either have to get pressure from the four man rush (which this team doesn't), or hold zones forever. If that isn't happening, then you are bringing people and there are huge holes where they came from. So if you bring the middle linebacker there is a gaping hole across the middle. What drives me crazy is like the first TD. You are backed up to where who cares if they get behind you cause it is a TD either way and you get beat with a skinny post. C'mon. The safety MUST see that play and drive on the ball.

I can't remember a worse steeler secondary except maybe last years unit. Poor scouting, poor scheming, poor coaching, you name it and it has lead to a horrible secondary.

At least we know what the problem is. Now only if our coach will do something about it.

Bend don't break depends on fast tackling. Middle/seam routes always vulnerable with our defense. I think that's why they drafted these midget LBs, but that isn't working.

All may be true. But why did Seattle with 3 pro bowl DB's and a pass rush give up almost 500 yds?

Haley was calling the pass plays to the guys that were single covered. That's why.

Who are the "midget LBR's" compared to Farrior/Foote /Timmons who we won SB's with ?

The 3-4 has been suspect to passes down the middle. The problem is in a shootout, our defense tires out in the 4th quarter. Need more run balance

Honestly, I think that is the weak spot for all defenses in this day of football. Ben was gashing the Seahawks down the middle all day, especially when Heath was still in the game.

Many of the 3rd down conversions against the D were on blitzes so I'm not so sure if the solution is rmto blitz always

Timmons never started a SB that they won. He was a backup in 2008. He started in 2010 against GB. And of course he wasn't here in 2005. So they didn't win "SBs" with him.

You can't hit guys over the middle anymore. That's the main problem period.Well that and nobody tackles.Really tragically awful fundamentals. That is why all of these athletic TE's are making muscleman poses on us game in and out. The only way to stop it now is start blowing out knees since you can't hit them in the head. The game is pretty much ruined overall. All of the rules and too much$$$$$$ involved.

..you can't play smashmouth defense when you're not allowed to smash anyone. They pretty much took away the Steelers identity completely.

This usually happens when we play qbs that are a threat outside the pocket, goes back to Tebow in the playoffs, we are so terrified of them getting out of the pocket we almost play timid from that standpoint on D. We held palmer and Dalton in check because we came after them and some timely turnovers

Bottom line is you're essentially replacing bums with bums. There is virtually zero talent in this defensive backfield whether it be starters or backups. Zero talent! So to expect play to change for the better is very wishful thinking. Ain't going to happen.

What pisses me off the most is that the secondary has been **** for years and they continue to pass on the position in the first rounds of draft. No excuse for that ****. This team is an average secondary away from being the best damn team in the NFL. Heads should roll.

Haven't picked a WR in the !st for years either. Maybe you need to keep some of those heads.

We've found talent at WR, we havent done so in the secondary so they need to start drafting higher caliber players. If our WRs were *** we'd be saying the same thing, but the guy throwing them ball as alot to do with how good they are.
