Playoffs?! The Hell You Say....

Depends on the concussion protocol. How long do they have to sit out if concussion is confirmed?

According to Ben, the concussion symptoms lessened as the night went on so I'll be counting on him passing the protocol.

Roethlisberger may not have been concussed

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Ben Roethlisberger may not have suffered a concussion Week 12 against the Seahawks.

Ben self-reported his symptoms late in the loss, but those symptoms reportedly "subsided quickly." It looks like Roethlisberger will play this week.

With only 2 home games left in the final 5, the Colts game should be seen as a "playoff" game, much like this game was to the Seahawks. I'll add that despite the obvious weakness that is our pass D, I'll venture to guess that the Pats, Broncos, Bengals etc would LEAST like to see the Steelers and this offense in the playoffs.

I don't think an 8-8 or even a 9-7 record will be enough to make the playoffs. But the thing I hate is, and shouldn't come to this, to depend on what the other teams does or do not do to determine the Steelers destiny. They shouldn't have worry about that, just worry about taking care of your own business.

It'll be good enough for Tomlin's nuthuggers to carry on about him never having a losing season, though. Enjoy!

Too many key injuries. DeAngelo Williams is solid but Bell is such a run/catch threat in the backfield AND downfield it makes a big difference. Losing Big Ben early in the season also cost us a least a game if not 2.

On the bright side I think we have a solid field goal kicker next year. Our chances are slim now to make the playoffs and frankly none if Ben cannot play.

Riverboat gambler be up the creek without a paddle

Oh but the players love him

Do we know that? Players outside of Ben typically don't talk about the coaches with the media.

Tomlin gambles when he does not need to then doesn't; when he needs to. See the last game.

I'll tell you all what though. I've read a few articles today that have been really calling MT out for his game time decision making. Press is actually calling him out for last night. Sort of unusual in the main stream press.

If Tomlin goes 8-8 again

Hire Les Miles!

He would take it in a heartbeat

I've noticed that a little bit too. Here in Detroit, the local guys always used to talk about how the lions needed to "find the next Mike tomlin." Man oh man, do they have very different opinions of him now.

I guess the good news is we still have a 1 in 3 shot at the playoffs. Obviously this changes as each week updates

Cowher had his warts, and looking back I can see things that drove me crazy about him. He was too conservative and he would have STILL had Ben handcuffed today. He probably would have won some more games and his defense would have been a **** ton better but Ben wouldn't be the QB he is today.

But no way in hell does Tomlin gameplan, manage the game, adjust or motivate his team like Cowher. Cowher FIXED guys. Look at Ike Taylor. Started out alright, had a ****** half season and Cowher flat out benched him. Sat him down and said "Get your **** together, Ike." Ike comes back and becomes one of the most steady cover corners we've seen in years. Sure he couldn't catch for ****, but he made sure nobody else did either and he tackled well. I don't see Tomlin fixing people much. I suppose there's still time though.

FYI, our loss last week was an NFC loss. They hurt the least in Playoff tiebreaks.

NY Giants, Buffalo Bills and Oakland Raiders are friends of the Steelers this week and they are all playing at home.

Assuming the Steelers win.

Jets and Texans can win, but need KC to lose and the Steelers would be in the playoffs and control destiny
Texans and Chiefs can win, but need Jets to lose and the Steelers would be in the playoffs and control destiny
Jets and Chiefs win with Texans losing, the Steelers are out and will need help
All three win, the Steelers are out and need help

One other note, I believe if the Jets, KC, Texans and Steelers win out the Jets are out and the Steelers are in. So, the Steelers actually control their own destiny right now.

Good stuff but looking at our remaining games I don't know.. The next 3 games are against teams positioning themselves for playoff seedings so they're going to play us like it's the playoffs as Seattle did, and the Ravens you already know is looking at our game like it's the Super Bowl, they're going to play to win in front of thier fans. The only game I see as a locked win now is the Browns.. I'll hold out hope but it's not looking pretty.

It's a little early to start worrying about playoff scenarios with five games left in the season. The Steelers need to take care of your first assumption and go from there, and beating the Colts is not going to be easy. Hasselbeck is 4-0 as a starter and just threw for 315 yards against a decent Tampa Bay pass defense...what he'll be facing this week is not anything approaching half-decent.

Our concern has to come from the fact that these Steelers are not able to produce a win streak beyond two consecutive games this year. They will probably have to run the table to be in, but if they can't they will have to at least go on a three game win streak. Something they haven't been able to put together this year so far.

Still plenty of football left, but the trend is becoming what it is. MT just can't seem to put together a winning season with these players, or his coaching of these players is hindering their ability to perform to the level required to be successful.

Another year of one-and-done if they get to the playoffs at all.

Are the Steelers just going to be playing these games for fun? I think we'll be playing for something too.
