This is what I was able to find this am with regards to the current playoff picture.

Kansas City is ahead of Houston, the N.Y. Jets and Pittsburgh based on conference record (Chiefs' 5-2 to the Texans' 4-3, Jets' 5-4 and the Steelers' 3-4). Houston is ahead of the N.Y. Jets and Pittsburgh based on conference record (Texans' 4-3 to the Jets' 5-4 and the Steelers' 3-4). The N.Y. Jets are ahead of Pittsburgh based on conference record (5-4 to the Steelers' 3-4).

That Seattle game was probably our season (at least post season) unless KC and Indy crashes. That could actually happen though. We can gain ground next week against the Colts.

1. Patriots
2. Bungles
3. Broncos
4. Colts
5. Chiefs
6. Texans

It ain't week 17 yet. Still need 4 wins.

I agree Cope. Just a snap shot of how we stand this week and what lies ahead. Not over until MT sings....or something like that.

Article on Yahoo sports I read this am. At the very best it's a good pooping read

Steelers Botch Game Late.

Two all-too-common occurrences this season for the Pittsburgh Steelers: Ben Roethlisberger injuries and Mike Tomlin coaching decisions.

On Sunday, the two things intertwined.

The Steelers and Seattle Seahawks, two teams once noted for their vaunted defenses, were embroiled in an offensive shootout Sunday with the Steelers down 32-27 with under four minutes remaining and facing a third-and-goal situation at the Seattle 10-yard line.

Roethlisberger — who threw for 456 yards, the most the Seahawks ever have allowed — scrambled after not being able to find an open receiver. He took it down to the 3-yard line, making it fouth-and-goal with two timeouts left, but taking a big hit from Seahawks linebacker K.J. Wright.

Tomlin opted to kick the field goal to make it a 32-30 Seahawks lead with 3:02 left. This is the same coach, mind you, who goes for two-point conversions just for the heck of it. Who attempted one of the more ridiculous fake field goals in this game you might ever see. Who went for it twice on fourth down in a loss to the Baltimore Ravens this season with Mike Vick at quaterback.

But with Roethlisberger shredding up the Seahawks, Tomlin opted for the three points. We soon found out part of the reason why he might have balked at going for it on fourth. Roethlisberger would be taken to the locker room under the concussion protocol soon after the Seahawks sealed the game a minute later with an 80-yard TD pass to Doug Baldwin.

Landry Jones replaced Roethlisberger on the Steelers' final possession and was picked to cap off the Seahawks' victory.

You can understand a coach feeling iffy about his backup quarterback coming off the bench cold to attempt a fourth-down conversion with the game on the line. But did Tomlin have another choice? It's not as if he legitimately trusted his defense, which allowed 7.4 yards per play and created zero turnovers in the game, even with no Marshawn Lynch or Jimmy Graham (who suffered a bad-looking knee injury) on the field.

Tomlin is a riverboat gambler who trusts his gut over any coaching cheat sheet. He flies in the face of convention, and it sometimes pays off. The Steelers are a gutsy, dangerous team, reflective of their coach's personality.

But sometimes he turns meek unexpectedly. it has to be maddening for a team to see its coach change on the fly like this, even with mitigating circumstances dictating the game flow. That's a situation where kicking the field goal is tantamount to playing to lose, passing up a two-point-conversion-length play to kick a rather meaningless field goal. It makes little coaching sense.

The Steelers lost a game and — again — lost their quarterback to injury. This will be tough for the Steelers to swallow.

What's maddening is during the last drive and the Steelers "shredding" the Hags defense, to quote the writer, Tomlin abandons a clock killing running game completely!
On first and goal did the Steelers run or attempt to run the ball??
I thought the idea was to score MORE points than the other team!

Yea. Even if we did get into the playoffs, we will lose the first game. This teams' defense doesn't belong in the playoffs.

The defense played bad yesterday, but they haven't been terrible all year. Dont forget they got scores off of turnovers that gave them very short fields. This is the NFL. Good one week, not so good the next. This is true of 90% of the teams in the league.

Exactly! I was screaming for them to run the ball. Williams was getting yardage, so why not?

As stupid as Tomlin is, their playoff hopes are not dashed yet. Let's face it, the teams vying for spots 5 and 6 are far from world beaters. The Chiefs do have the inside track to the 5th spot just because their remaining schedule is the easiest. Outside of that, the rest is just junk fighting for the 6th spot.

We could easily be back in the 5th seed spot next weekend. First and foremost, we must beat the Colts.
Chiefs play at Oakland and Texans play in Buffalo.. Texans and Chiefs can both lose these games.

Unless our defense can come together and when I say defense I mean secondary it doesn't matter. Brady throwing to my Grandma will shred us, Manning or Osweiler would throw for 300+, and at this point Alex Smith would look like Montana if we play them. Sorry doesn't matter no Bowl this year guys so just sit back enjoy the games and don't stress about the play calls or officiating because in the end it doesn't really matter. Enjoy your friends family and beer for the holidays!

I don't think an 8-8 or even a 9-7 record will be enough to make the playoffs. But the thing I hate is, and shouldn't come to this, to depend on what the other teams does or do not do to determine the Steelers destiny. They shouldn't have worry about that, just worry about taking care of your own business.

Largely what many of us have been saying for weeks/ months and years

Still need 4 wins minimum and one of them MUST come against the Colts this weekend. Lose to the Colts and I just don't see us winning out and getting in. This is a MUST game.

If Landry starts we do not beat the Colts. We won't beat Denver or Cincinnati with our without Ben.

Texans have a difficult schedule (for them):
@ Buffalo
New England
@ Colts
@ Titans
Jacksonville

I say they go 2-3

KC has:

@ Raiders
Chargers
@ Baltimore
Browns
Raiders

no doubt they beat Baltimore and Cleveland. I'd guess they beat the Raiders once and the Chargers. 4-1 to close out.

Basically, we need to win out to get the 5th seed.
