List of 25 semifinalists for Pro Football Hall of Fame announced
Posted by Darin Gantt on November 24, 2015, 8:00 PM EST

An interesting group of first-time eligible candidates are among the 25 semifinalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, which was unveiled tonight.

Quarterback Brett Favre and wide receiver Terrell Owens are two of the new names on the list, which will be reduced to 15 before a maximum class of five modern-era candidates is voted on the day before the Super Bowl.

While Favre makes a clear case for induction, Owens will create a complex argument, as his raw numbers have to be balanced by the impact he has had on teams.

Owens is second on the all-time receiving yards list (15,934), third in touchdowns (153) and sixth on the all-time receptions list (1,078). But he also played for five teams, and those moves weren’t always based on football or financial reasons.

They will join a list of candidates who carried over from last year’s finalists and a few newcomers.

That list is topped by the players who were finalists last year, but just missed in the final vote from 10 spots to five: Linebacker Kevin Greene, quarterback Kurt Warner, tackle Orlando Pace, wide receiver Marvin Harrison and coach Tony Dungy.

Last year’s finalist who were cut in the vote from 15 to 10 were coaches Don Coryell and Jimmy Johnson, kicker Morten Andersen, running back Terrell Davis and safety John Lynch.

The other semifinalists, in alphabetical order, include: Safety Steve Atwater, tackle Tony Boselli, wide receiver Isaac Bruce, running back Roger Craig, guard Alan Faneca, wide receiver Torry Holt, tackle Joe Jacoby, running back Edgerrin James, tackle Mike Kenn, cornerback Ty Law, center Kevin Mawae, linebacker Karl Mecklenburg and linebacker Sam Mills.

That group will be voted upon along with this year’s senior finalists (quarterback Ken Stabler and guard Dick Stanfel and contributor Edward DeBartolo, Jr. Those three are voted upon separately, and need 80 percent of a yes-no vote to be approved.

I don't see allan fanaca making the final cut. Even though he was very athletic and even though he left the "burgh" on mouthy terms, I just don't see it. Dirt Dawson should be in the HOF, before fanaca. There are several STEELERS not in as I think it has to do with the saturation of STEELERS allready in.

Dermoti Dawson is already in the HOF.

Kevin Greene's HOF entry is way over due IMO.

Stabler deserves to be in the Hall.

Ed Debartlo Jr? Seriously?? The guy was kicked out from being an owner because he was shady as ****, and now he's a HOF finalist? Pete Rose deserves to be in the Baseball HOF more than this *** hat deserves to be in the NFL HOF.

Debartlo as a contributor..similar to a commentator getting in. Like the Sables

My hall this year:

Favre, Coryell, Pace, Faneca

That's it. Next year Owens get it.

So the **** what? There's lots of ******** already in the HOF.

I understand. But when does a sport say: You're not allowed to own a team anymore, force you to sell it, and then turn around and make you a HOF finalist?

All this list does is make me feel old. I saw every guy on the list play except for Dick Stanfel.

It is pretty much time to put in the leagues first official sack specialist LB... Kevin Greene.... what he did, he did better than anyone else in his era, and he paved the way for pass rush specialists. he impacted the game a ton, and it was a sign of the switch from a running league to a passing league..

Farve is the no brainer in this class. John Madden is going to mumble 'Brett Farvre" about a thousand times during the ceremonies...
Marvin Harrison ought to go in before Terrel owens. TO will be in the HOF, but not this year.
Id probably want Holt in before him too...
Tony Dungy should certainly get in this year... the guy turned Tampa bay from a giant joke to a contender, and was the only coach to get Manning a super bowl win. Parts of his modified defenses are all over the league to this day.
Tony Boselli will probably get in soon... I think Fanaca will eventually, but not quite yet

James deserves it more than Davis does.
I think Law should be in soon, maybe not this year though
Warner is a very interesting case... sort of a reverse Davis... he didn't have a long career due to a late start, but he was magnificent for two stretches with some injuries and issues in between

Stabler should get the old timers vote

I see Favre, Pace, Dungy and Owens going in. There are more that could/should but those shouldn't even be a question. T.O.'s numbers speak for themselves and he didn't play his entire career in this pussified NFL either. His off the field behavior never involved breaking any laws, or being suspended by the league. If you don't get in based on your play on the field your Hall of Fame is a farce. I'm no fan, but he was a great player.

Exactly. Owens was/is a prick, but perhaps the best receiver of his generation. A game-changer, absolutely dominant.

Factoring only talent and production, Owens easily goes in before Harrison and Holt.

WHEN does this pussified league drop a hammer on kr*ft? **** stick should be forced to sell and banned along with his two cheating -beep- coharts. Did I happen to mention the cheatriots suck and I can't stand the entire organization.? Sorry for the insult to -beep- s.

I've said before, I'd be happy if Faneca got in, but I don't think he's Hall worthy. Same with Dungy, who I love. Terrell Davis did not do it long enough, same with Warner. Edgerrin James? Really? The ones who I think deserve to get in this year:

Farve
Owens
K Greene
Pace
Jimmy Johnson
Stabler

Morten Anderson is just off my list, as I feel he deserves to get in as well.

Marvin Harrison will have trouble because he's believed to have killed a thug in North Philly. I can't figure out if Marvin is some sort of gangster, or if he's a hard *** Charles Bronson vigilante type who refuses to take any **** from the thugs in that neighborhood.
