I'm torn on it. While I certainly think he's better than Wallace, I don't think he's the end all, be all many fans make him out to be. And after a long layoff and surgery, who effective would he be? I don't want a guy running right up the middle and taking Ben out.

He obviously won't play if he's not healthy enough to do his job (aka stop a guy from barreling through the middle of our line and taking Ben out)

But if he's healthy enough to do his job, then he needs to be out there.

When does he have to come off short term IR and count against the 53? I think it's 2 or 3 weeks after the 8 weeks? I'm confused. I don't think he can be parked on the designated to return list all year.

I don't know why we seem to always come to these conclusions that a guy coming off injury is just a disaster waiting to happen. When, historically, has that been the case? I would hope that if a guy is still hurt and not able to do his job, the staff would be perceptive enough to see that and smart enough not to play him.

These guys aren't china dolls, as much as we like to call them that when they get hurt a lot. If a player says he can go, the docs say he's healthy, and the coaches see him performing as expected, then he needs to be on the damn field. That's why they get paid. Living in our fears is what loses games, not playing a guy who has recovered from an injury and is now healthy.

I said the same thing all week about Ben when it looked like he would recover quickly from the foot sprain. If all signs indicated that he's healthy enough to play, then god dammit go out there and light up the Stains. That's what you're here for. Making him inactive as a precautionary measure is simply playing scared and could have cost us a game (although I doubt it seeing how bad the Stains pass D was yesterday). And I was right. Ben was healthy, even absorbed some hits and moved around in the pocket, and played like Ben. These aren't gigantic walking vaginas out there.

Look no further than Antwon Blake.

I still have him on a timetable to return, at the earliest, in week 14-16. That gives him 1-3 games before a playoff game. I hope it's on the earlier side, because doing cardio in the pool or on a bike is nothing like an in game situation.

Is Pouncey coming back this year still even on the table let alone after the bye? After the bye seems like more than wishful thinking since he did have a second surgery even if just for an infection. His original timetable put him near the end of the season, if at all. If we see him back this year, my guess would be in the last game or two of the season.

Think its late December before we get him back. Obviously having an infection and a second procedure was not ideal to get him into game shape when he does return. Would love to see the big fella back out there healthy. It would solidify the center of the line and improve the rushing game.

I just can't imagine he is any kind of game day shape right now.
I say stick with Wallace and get a healthy Pouncey back next year.

But Antwon Blake isn't very good even when he's healthy. Pouncey is easily a better option than Wallace

True, I'm just referring to you can't always trust the staff will see a player is hurt, and not play him thought

No.

I trust them more than I do any poster. And while you may rap Blake in his first year as a starter Keep in mind the Browns have a high #1 cb who didn't even dress and we would have probably killed to draft.

If he can get back to form you play him this year if not then not.

I think he was referring to the fact that Blake has injured shoulder ligaments, can barely lift his arms to tackle and is still out there over Boykin, et. al. My question would be more along the lines of "what does that say about Boykin?" But, I can see how the question of why the staff still has Blake out there is legitimate.

Blake's torn ligaments are in his hand, specifically his thumb...where's this shoulder stuff coming from?

Read about it in either Rossi's, DK's or one of the fan site's articles yesterday ... Can't remember which. I knew he had an injured hand and the shoulder stuff was new to me also. But, if you look, the guy doesn't even try to wrap when he tackles anymore ... just tries to ride his guy out or push 'em out of bounds.

William Gay had a shoulder injury, Blake's shoulder is just fine. I just watched some of the Manziel highlights on NFL.com, I saw Blake wrap up just fine, he wasn't targeted a whole lot, they went after Gay and the middle of the field most of the game.

I don't see him returning, but it would be great to get him back before the end of the year for the playoff push.

Several media types in Pittsburgh have been saying to not expect Pouncey back this year.

Beat writers from a paper not to be named, the same ones who said there was a zero percent chance that Ben would play last Sunday. Therefore, we can look for Pouncey to be added to the roster probably sometime towards late season.
