Roughing the Passer Call

I watched the game at home with my best friend, a Raider fan. During a commercial, I switched to Redzone and watched some of the Saints game. They were at the goal line and Brees drops back and is purely, cleanly tackled. Sacked. Period. Nothing bad about it, defender twisted so Brees landed on HIM rather than his weight on the QB.

Roughing the passer was flagged. We both sat shocked and appalled. Eventually, we mentioned that Ben nor Carr would ever get that kind of call. A few plays later, Carr gets the RTP and even he said WTF that's a bullshit flag.

And, the same thing happened last week. I kept remembering saying I hope the team turns in the entire game for review as the offiicals were beyond terrible in that one also. Bad calls, bad spots. missed calls, etc. If this is the best they have, then they need to clean the officiating house.

I'd love to see PI and RTP be reviewable plays. Officials are looking at both of these in real-time. They can't see everything. Because the penalties are so significant (and potentially game changing), it's important to get them right. Lake them part of the coaches allotted challenges.

The offsides call on our defense was horrible. But there is no conspiracy against us --- officiating is terrible and affects every close game.

I'm sorry guys, but when I saw that hit real time, I said "oh ****, there goes Carr's knees". The first look, I can see why the flag was thrown. We have the benefit of instant replay, and clearly on instant replay Shazier struck hard on the thigh. It looked bad real time, and I understand why the ref saw it as a low hit, because you usually can't drop a QB with a downward strike to the thigh. It's Shazier's fault for being a beast. That was a violent hit. Legal, but violent.

The problem I have with calls, is having any call being subjective and the decision has to be determined by a specific ref. This taunting bullshit has got to go. Some defender makes a huge play on 3rd down and celebrates. BOOM Taunting flag. Pathetic. These are grown ******* men, making incredible amounts of money. Take taunting out of the rulebook. Of course you can't grab a guy and point at him and dig into a person, but celebrating a big play? It's why they also need to be more lax on TD celebrations. No props, fine. Going to the ground during a celebration? Really? Who does that help. Celebrating with teammates? That gets flagged at times too.

The problem always comes when the rules are subjective and not clean cut. The tackling chart for a QB is different than any other player on the field. It doesn't work. Get rid of it.
