That would have been a top ten gut wrenching loss

I said to others after taking the14 point 4th quarter lead, in Cowhers day, it was time to pour the shot and light the cigar, now, you gotta watch and hope.

Wasn't too hard to do with the Bus out there. That said, rules changes have made sitting on the ball, and playing field position obsolete. Used to be that if you had a solid defense, you could grind out a few first downs, and then punt, knowing you could keep the other team from going 80-85 yards. Not today. It's just too easy to move the ball. No lead is safe. You have to keep trying to score.

Yeah, it's no coincidence the number of games that come down to the final drive/play - or teams who come back from big deficits. When is last time you watched the network break away from a game because it's not "competitive?" Exactly! We're not supposed to notice though.

I totally disagree. The Steelers won in those days with leads because they would go get a field goal to get up by ten or 13. TWO SCORES. When Mitchell blundered on the scoop and score and Dupree deflected the punt, the Steelers got the ball inside the Raiders side of the field. Not getting a field goal in that situation is simply inexcusable.

We were up by 2 scores. No lead in the NFL is safe anymore. Its the nature of the new fantasy football NFL. The Colts led the Broncos by 17 and needed a late FG to win. Football has fundamentally changed.

Also, did anyone else notice how much more physical the steelers were today? Oakland was dropping like flies.

It was like everytime we tackled them, it either resulted in a fumble or a concussion.

I was in a rage after Mitchell forced the fumble and started dancing around with the ball loose. And he should have known about getting 2 feet in bounds before touching the fumbled ball. That guy can hit like a truck, but him and Burfict probably have the same IQ. Idiot.

Lucky for us we were +2 in turnovers. Fumbles recoveries are hit or miss.

God how I've come to hate that phrase.

Was curious about the OOB thing as well. There seemed to be several other Steelers in position to recover that ball........not having played past HS I was wondering whether he had time to decide to try to let someone else get that ball. I mean I'm curious.....would that be something a guy would have time to think of or should have ?

Its a fast game man...**** happens on the field a million miles a second...his first instinct was to pick up the fumble. Everything after that is secondary.

The mistake wasn't picking it, as others pointed out the speed of the game doesnt allow you to hesitate, the mistake was to run outside the field, he must know that he has to stay inbounds or anything he does, tackling or recovering a fumble, would be illegal.

After losing Ben, I wouldn't have been upset if we lost a 14pt lead, which we did.

It was nice to get the win, and even nicer to learn Ben will be back soon.
