Sometimes you have to look deeper. KO woes

If you read the comments it says Archer is 10th in average yrds per return and 7th in total return yrds. That is actually pretty decent. I did not fact check, so hopefully they were correct. I thought Archer had decent strength numbers at the combine so i do not think he is a weakling.
People are correct in saying the good returners find lanes and archer may lack vision, but if he is doing what he is told them its hard to fault him.

Archer is tied for 4th in number of returns. You are dealing with very small sample sizes because most returners don't come out. Archer is 10th in average. Which means he brings it out a lot but he doesn't go very far when he does. Remember there are only 11 guys in the NFL with double digit returns.

But I would bet just about anything that the difference between the top and bottom is pretty insignificant. He returns three a game and gets past the 30 maybe once. So the difference between a great day by Archer and just taking knees is 10-17 yards. Wow. If he broke one. Just one for a TD I would say he had a use. He has none. I could essentially do what he does.

Just looked it up. His returns have totaled 74 yards beyond just taking a knee. 354 yards in returns and if he would have taken the knee on the 14 returns that is 280 yards. Whhhhhhhooooooo!

Spoken like someone who has never played football. This isn't high school this is the NFL and you go north and south not east and west. If he tries to bounce it to the other side of the field on the first example he is tackled by TWO defenders 5+ yards earlier and if by some miracle he escapes them he is tackled about the same yard line by a third. In the second example you are so pissed about there are literally TWO steelers to block FOUR Bengals. Again by following his blocking Archer gave himself the best chance for success. If you look at the first example IF peerman is blocked Archer could run up the middle for a very nice gain. In example two if Peerman is blocked Archer would have been able to follow his blockers who had set up a nice wall for him and again have a nice gain. Instead in both instances he did not receive the blocking needed for this to happen.
Sorry, but no matter how you try to spin it, Archer sucks. He makes the decision to come out of the endzone. If he can't get back to at least the 20, then he shouoldn't return it. If he can't make a cut, then he shouldn't be back there. Kick returners have to make decisions and make them fast. He can not and doesn't seem to be able to accelerate like he did before his injury in his first year. He sucks, plain and simple. It's not all on the blocking.

The question is how big a drop off would there be replacing him with a random player... Not much... As referenced earlier kick offs are not regularly returned.. 2/3rds of the league doesn't have a returner with enough returns to even qualify for statistical ranking... On his few good returns, there isn't a move or acceleration that you can point to that makes him a better option then some random other person with another role on the team

I volunteer to be that random person. We will be at the 20 everytime and I will not fumble. I will however turtle on short kicks that land outside the goaline. Or at least fall over near the 20.

I only had to look at Archer, he was small, taken down to easily, made bad decisions.

Not to mention 14 opportunities for us to get a tragic penalty to back us up deep into our redzone and 14 times for our guys to get hurt on Special teams.
