The Raiders game next week is MUST WIN

Right now, we are out of the playoffs, behind the Jets and the Raiders ( both 4-3 ), with Kansas City, Buffalo and Houston on our heels. A loss to Oakland would severely cripple the chances, as we would be two games behind them, which include a head to head loss.

Currently, our AFC conference record is 1-4, which means any wild card team we did not defeat head to head passes the Steelers if their season record is the same. This means if Kansas City, Buffalo or Houston win their next game and we lose the Steelers get pushed back even further. Odds say one of these teams three trailing teams will their next game.

No brainer. We lose this game, might as well start tanking

Steelers better be ready next week. Whatever issues they had they better fix it quickly.

Oakland is pretty good....Carr is playing great, Amari Cooper is a dynamic playmaker.

change the title to every game from now on is a must win game, so you don't have to open a thread with the same title every week, just changing the opposing team's name

I just think with the experience the Steelers have plus the level of talent as long as Cool Shades and the players don't underestimate the Raiders they should win this easily despite all the injuries

We couldn't beat Oakland when they sucked with the likes of Terrell Pryor The Jeanette Flash so now we have a pretty damn good Raiders team coming in here with an eye towards the playoffs. Ouch!

This football team has just got too many key injuries to win many more games this year. Its now time for Ben rust and all to see if he can put this team on his back and carry them the rest of the way. I'll give him yesterday due to his 4 game layoff which contributed to his timing being off although I worry about his decision making which shouldn't have been affected, case in point the sideline interception that pretty much sealed our fate. This is the time when franchise QB's getting paid 100 million bucks are expected to carry their team. We shall find out Sunday whether Ben can revert back to being Ben or not.

Easy! This ain't going to be easy Chico.

Ha ha hahaha HAHAHAHAHAHAHA......

You must be new around here and not remember the great underestimations of the past.....

Hell they already have 2 notches on the great belt of underestimation this year with losses to the Rats and Chiefs....

Yea..... I am going to be an effervescent bubbling drink of optimism from here on out.....

Not.

This game is tomlin versus del rio. Del rio will win. Tomlin can't beat Harbaugh, Reed, and add Del Rio to that list. In fact, Tomlin is quickly sinking to the bottomany 1/3 of head coaches in the league. Sadly, he is our head coach.

its nice to finally have a semblance of a pass rush again. been a LONG time.

steelers win this one. They are going to need at least 10 wins to avoid being so ****** in tie-breakers.

The Steeler's track record against the Raiders in recent years has been pretty abysmal. More alarmingly, the Steelers seem to lack any sort of killer instinct. For whatever reason, they seem utterly unwilling or incapable of getting a team down and putting them down which allows other teams to hang around until the end and ultimately come in for the win.

Sadly you can't even call it an upset win as the Steelers are 4-4. They pretty much are the guys doing the upsetting right now. I'd sure like to see them beat the Raiders though. They could use an AFC win.

Coach your thread got hijacked - but, you're right - it's a must win. Hopefully, the refs don't screw us as they did yesterday...

Oakland has the 2nd worst pass defense in the NFL ( 302.1 give up on average per game ). Ben is going to be sharper. Oakland's sack tally is below average. On paper, we should be able to win this game.

At what point do players get some responsibility for losses? Or is that only when games are won?

Must win against the Raiders?

The Raiders O has been putting points on the board. They are already a half game up on us at 4-3 along with the Jets. Lose against them and we are 1.5 behind for a wildcard spot. And, we are behind the Jets for the tiebreaker because our conference record sucks. I say this is a must win game. 10-6 should get us in as a wildcard. 9-7 and we are probably on the outside looking in.

Our defense will be ok, the offense can't lay another egg.

I wouldn't classify it as a must, but winning this game is very important. Both the Raiders and Jets have considerably easier schedules in the second half. Falling a game-and-a-half behind Oakland with 5 losses (and with games remaining at Seattle and Cincinnati plus Denver) wouldn't bode well for the Steelers' playoff chances.

Deja vu. Coach already started this needless thread. Should probably be merged.

I agree with the comment in the other thread.. change the title to "Any game going forward is a must win" so we don't need this thread started every week.

Fortunately for us, the AFC is so top heavy...

I am actually starting to believe that a 9-7 team could make the playoffs.

I'm not a Tomlin basher, but until he starts improving his atrocious clock management, he gets just as much or more blame than the players. I used to cringe when he'd throw the red flag, because he would win 1 out of 10. He has no visibility of the game from the sidelines, or just doesn't understand it. It's probably got something to do with looking cool in those ******* shades instead of paying attention to his team. Like when players are getting scorched play after play and doesn't make any adjustments. It must be because he just can't see the on field abuse some our DBs suffer.

Or when he drafts people like Jarvis Jones (and I'm a UGA fan, loved him there, want him the **** off my Steeler team), and then keeps him in the game as he perennially does **** on the field to justify his jersey cost. Or when he evaluates any talent... or keeps those with NO ******* TALENT (Archer????!)

Once he cleans some of that up, then more focus will be on the players and not the complete ineptitude of Tomlin on the sidelines, who stares at the field blankly and chews his bubble gum. Maybe he's there to kick *** and chew bubble gum, but can only do 1 thing at a ******* time. Gum wins.

P.S. Oakland is looking much improved this year. They have some beasts on the DL and some good offensive weapons. We constantly get embarrassed by them when they're a 2-14 team, whether we play them at home or in the black hole. This will be a tough game and even worse as my best friend, who is a Raiders fan, will be traveling to my house this weekend to watch it with me.

I'd love to get a win, but he still holds the last laugh as we're one of the few teams they beat when they end up with a 3-13 record.

I don't remember the last time the Steelers beat the Raiders.

I do remember Ben's terrible game against them about 7 or 8 years ago. I was at the game where Gradkowski beat us. And who can forget Terrell Pryor's 90 (or whatever) yard run?

The pile on is back....BACK in full effect....bottom third huh ? Chucklin my *** off............

This is all about #7.....its not coaching, its not scheming its not weather or the price of textiles in Indonesia. Theres one simple element we only need worrying about. Its QB play.
If Derek Carr outperforms Ben, we have a ******* problem.
