Keith Butler says that defense needs to work on tackling and keeping the opposing teams to 3's instead of 7's. No ****, but if they want to improve at this most fundamental football skill....they have to do it after practice on their own time. Wow! SMH! I understand the game plan is important, and the defensive scheme is in depth and takes up a lot of the time, but come on. Tackling is a basic skill that is forgotten at the pro level. Head up, wrap up and bring the guy to the ground.

Defense should do "Oklahoma" drills at the end of every practice IMO.

If they need to do it after practicew, It's just not going to happen. This CBA has changed the game permanantly. Not for the better as all you have to do is watch a game. This was voted on by the players and passed. They wanted less work for more $$$. Now they are crying as to the power given up to get those things. We all know the STEELERS voted against it, but to little affect. The "I told you so" means nothing at this time in the game of things. How many of you, the average paid people, stay after work to improve yourself for your job, all at no extra pay..........that's right,. NOT going to happen.

Everyone hits like a bunch of ******* ******* now. In fact they don't even hit. It's some type of ****** half *** arm tackling. It's pathetic. No wonder they can't tackle a god damn tight end to save their own life. ******* sad. we need to get the Steel back in Steeler Defense. This horseshit now aint it.

They can do it after practice on their own. Manning and his receivers have worked after practice for most of his career. I guarantee AB works on his craft after practice. Tackling should be no different. They need to take the initiative to do it on their own to get better. Lifting weights won't make you a better tackler.

As stated before, this is a result of the new CBA and limiting what is allowed during practice, the amount of contact, practice with pads, etc. I'm sure Butler would love nothing more than to line these guys up for hours on end and do nothing but tackle drills. But at this point in the season, they are limited. So he sends a message to his team by suggesting they do it on their own after practice where the CBA doesn't matter as long as a coach isn't present.

WR's will stay after and catch balls from the jugs machine, these guys need to hit the sleds and bags after practice as well.

Tackling is a lost art. I see atrocious tackling in pretty much every game I watch now. It's not limited to the Steelers, it's league wide. Part of it is that players are now taught to go for the ball. Stripping the ball is great, but it's not conducive to great tackling.

Who needs tackling? They should just go to pro bowl rules where you can only rush down linemen with no LB blitzing and get this pussification over with.

Hate the term defenseless receiver as well, move...that is your defense. There should be one penalty for trying to dislodge the ball, targeting of the head, beyond that let the guys play some D.

Hate the way this pansy league is going, Troy called it

The coaches should have a film session watching rugby. Those guys know how to form tackle.

When I played football, tackling was fun, and you were all about busting someone's ***, and even putting them out of the game. That was a long time ago. We played little league football in light freezing rain. We played in the rain. In 1983 we played the 11 year old peewee championship in damn near freezing temperatures. Same thing in high school The American culture has been pussified.

When you plant your face mask in their chest, their head whips forward, your head may rise a little and, suddenly, you're flagged for hitting with the helmet.

What bugs me about this is that these guys are pro football players on "Defense" they should know how to tackle. If they cant tackle then scouting as gone down hill hard

Yes! The product on the field and what the NFL represents isnt what it used to be. Before Rodger Goodell took over, the NFL meant something to fans. Now it's just a corporate game. As a result the skill set of the players is diminishing. Maybe not much. Cause they are pro athletes afterall. But the attitude and tradition isnt the same

Tackling below the waist is coached at the pee wee level.

Now it's just hit someone and expect them to fall down.

It's a joke.

Short passes and wait for a team to miss tackles, or make a coverage mistake is Patriots offense plan right now.

Take advantage of the rules and the state of the game.

If we would be satisfied short quick passing and moving the chains. With speedy receivers, Bell, Heath, and played short smart efficient we couldn't be stopped. Not to mention time of possession.

That's all the pats are doing. You can't sack the QB when the ball is out in less than two seconds.

Spot on! Most teams just don't have the patience to do that. They just can't resist the temptation to go for the big play.
