• Impersonal as Mike Tomlin is with the local media — full disclaimer: I couldn’t care less — that’s exactly how controlling he can be of the message sent out from within the team.

That’s why, when Tomlin was asked at his Tuesday press conference to elaborate on Maurkice Pouncey’s second ankle surgery last week — in the context that Pouncey’s girlfriend posted a couple of vague announcements via Instagram — he barked back: “I’m not playing the Pouncey social media game.”

Small wonder. The previous week, Tomlin had stated only that Pouncey hadn’t had a second surgery to that point, without elaboration even though he surely would have known if such a thing we’re even being contemplated. Because, as this site reported exclusively in detail, he definitely had it.

This bears further monitoring.

Tomlin reports facts. At that time Pouncey didn't have the 2nd surgery. He had it the next day...

Pouncey has had previous problems on social media. He once mocked some fan telling him he was rich and you are not. Then he whined to the press because he felt his brother was being treated unfairly.

I felt Pouncey was a risky long term deal due to injury issues, and minor off the field stuff. It appears a double whammy has hit, and Tomlin's had about enough of it.

It's a good thing for Pouncey that Wallace is a fringe level player.

Tomlin obviously didn't want to talk or let anyone know. Then Pouncey posts it on instagram.

He would have to know its coming..
 
it's clear that Tomlin tries to keep the locker room stuff hermetic, I like that in a coach

As any coach should. Why give Roger any ammunition, or another team insight on injuries beyond what needs to be reported. I still think Tomlin has a long way to go. His team has quite a few off the field issues, some of which are on social media.

The 49'ers, Browns, Cowboys, Vikings, etc. say they'll see Tomlin's team's "quite a few off the field issues" and raise ...
 
To be fair, this is the first generation of NFL players who had social media in the total open way it is available now... frankly Im sure if smartphones and twitter existed back in the day many of our sports heroes would have had major issues brought to light and many more would have had stupid little things like twitter wars show up too... its a dumb new world these days...

And really who cares if his girlfriend tweets something out now... its a free country and his health status isn't proprietary information that the Steelers own, no matter how much Tomlin wishes it was.... Cinci wasn't preparing for Pouncy by any stretch of the imagination or anything
 
I think what's missing is that Pouncey had a procedure and the FO and coaching staff where not releasing information. Maybe they were waiting to see what the rehab guys had to say. IDK. Eitherway, as a paid employee of that franchise he might be obligated to keep his health status to himself until the FO decides to notify the media and NFL. You know, the 5 Ws might not have fully been answered by that point.

Pouncey's girlfriend knows who her boyfriend is. She should not be out there tweeting, Instagraming, or any other of that silliness on his behalf. She needs to tweet links to her nude photos online, or something like that instead.

Isn't there a point in time that the Steelers need to make a decision on Pouncey's status for the remainder of the season?

Exactly. As soon as you heard about a possible second surgery, the idea of Pouncey coming back this year became an afterthought for me. And this isn't the first time that a player's girlfriend or wife has tweeted something that probably shouldn't have been tweeted. Is what it is.

We can complain about Tomlin as much as we want. Our team does not have locker room drama at least
