Cortez Allen: Where are they now?

Sounds like he's not hurt at all and hasn't been. They just aren't even trying to use him just like they aren't using Boykin. Makes no sense.

He has been a limited participant in practice the past couple weeks...doesn't sound like a healthy scratch to me.

reading that article, it sounded like he has been able to practice and practicing but getting the "limited participant" label anyway. Maybe I read it wrong but it sure sounded like he is just in someone's doghouse or something and not hurt at all. Every time he was asked about being hurt or healthy, he said you will have to ask Tomlin about that. I think the guy knows if he is hurt or not.
 
I had real high hopes for this kid. He started out above the line, but frail confidence slid him down. Thought maybe Carnell could get something out of him. When your huirt, it's hard to advance.

Ben has been a limited participant in practice this week. When asked about his injury he has consistently replied (paraphrasing) "I feel better .... BUT ... you'll have to ask Coach Tomlin about whether I'll play or not." Seems to me that Cortez is saying the same thing.

me, too. He started out good, but something went awry. i'm sure it is poor coaching....

Maybe but I don't get that impression. I get the impression he can play he just isn't being allowed to. Who knows. We need all hands on deck and he is one of them. You would hope he and Boykin would get proper practice and coaching each week as they are the next men up.

Players always think they can play. If they aren't on the field, someone else is trying to take their job. However, when it comes to Cortez, who knows what's going on?

Boykin, Boykin, Boykin ... Nothing against you, but I'm kinda tired of hearing about the guy as if he's the next coming of Rod Woodson. Butler says the kid hasn't practiced well. Tomlin says the kid hasn't practiced well. Therefore, it's kind of obvious they don't trust him to play well and aren't going to play him if they don't have to ... based upon his practice habits.

It's not "practice', it's "in-helmet repetitive physicality" now.

Unless Cortez just tore his knee on Friday, this makes no sense for a player that's at least practiced all season.

Sure it does. There is a possibility that he was well enough to practice in a limited capacity (as he has been) and they hoped that his knee would strengthen further - allowing them to bring him back at a later time in the season. It is also possible that the knee just wasn't strengthening at a fast enough pace and the injury to Vick made it expeditious that they bring Murphy up. Someone had to be taken off the 53 and Allen, whose knee wasn't getting stronger quick enough, was the candidate they chose.

Still odd to end a guy's season if he's been limited all year. I'd expect he'd be back in a month at the latest, but perhaps he has a serious knee issue.
