This year's attention turnovers on defense have changed them for the better. Leading the league with a +6 is a great change to a defense that couldn't get an interception. I don't know if it's Butler's attention to turning the ball over, or the fact that Ike Taylor retired, but it's great to see the CBs have more than 1 int the whole season (staring last season of course)!

Looking at the numbers, the Steelers are also leading the leage with the least amount of turnovers. This is especially impressive, since they haven't turned the ball over at all yet with our backup QBs, Vick and Jones, leading the offense. Another great number to notice is the zero in the fumbles lost column. Bell went all season last year without a lost fumble, which is nothing short of remarkable with the amount of touches he has, and his sure handedness is helping us in that regard. Also good that Vick didn't turn the ball over with the 3-4 balls he put on the ground this year.

That +6 is amazing as to how far this defense has come. A lot here seem to focus on the bad or "hole" in our defense. The big picture shows a turn around, regardless of those "holes" us fans see. Coaching / players / game time all hve a part in this success and should be looked at that way.

Turnovers are a misleading stat. I wish people tracked "key" turnovers... I dont care about the punt ball interceptions on third or fourth down, or hail mary picks. I dont care about garbage time turnovers or deperation fumbles as the game ends....

I want to know the turnovers that directly create or defeat scoring opportunities or drastically change field position. thats what is key for me, and really that is what we have been doing this year

I don't think there are a significant number of those, especially when netted out. A turnover anywhere on the field is significant as possession of the ball is of utmost significance.

I think Mad brings up a good point. And I did forget Vick did have an Interception to end the half vs SD. It was on a hail mary, and our turnover didn't hurt us. So one of our 3 turnovers had no bearing to hurt us.

One stat for total turnovers that I want to see is adding a "Turnover on Downs" to the turnover margin. When teams go for it on 4th down and fail, the turnover should count against the team in the margin. They are big defensive plays that give the offense the football, and it would be nice to see the defense get credited for a team turnover, or perhaps credit the tackler for a turnover on downs tackle or pass defense.

Have to think the pressure from our front 7 as well as the fire zone blitzes from the DBs are creating opportunities for the secondary to get picks. Also without Troy free roaming, we now have the traditional deep safeties and that also puts them in better position for INTs. We've had quite a few fumbles forced as well so kudos to the team for getting the guys to deliver vicious hits.

Each and every Thanksgiving.

See that turkey? It's got 8 legs. I've never seen a turkey with 8 legs. Must be some octo-turkey or sumthin.

I also credit him for putting the term turducken in the vernacular.

Well over the last couple of seasons our defense didn't even get "garbage" TO's. So even though I don't recall any so far this season......I will take all the "garbage " TO's and any other kind we can get from here on out.

I agree. Teams with a 6 or more turnover margin are not just getting garbage time TOs. In addition having gotten previous turnovers in the game, or significantly dominated the Offense may he what lead to desperation to take the risk of those late TOs.

Lots of pieces at work, but I don't find a ranking of Turnovers to be misleading especially if you are looking at turnover margins.

The turn over margrin would also include your offensive turn overs, in garbage time or not. I beleive that plus 6 leads the NFL, as Cope states, but garbage time or not, I'm not giving any of them back, so to speak. Many here say we don't keep our foot on the gas, to close out a game. Well wouldn't a garbage time turn over be a contributing factor to winning the game. NO comeback type angle to it??? See this for what it is, a very nice improvement of our "D" from last couple years.

Especially with so many key pieces missing time. Ben, Bryant, bell, pouncey, shazier, now beachum too

I think our OL coach has those backups prepared. Can't say enough for the work he is putting in.

Thankfully that is what he desires to do, Steelers gain.
