Now this is a special kind of stupid

I believe that play was designed to go right. I hope that doesn't give us any bright ideas.

LOL..Apparently they were not suppose to be snapped the ball unless the Pats****.show a certain defensive look which they never did. So they were suppose to just take the delay of game. They also did a surprise onside kick which didn't work. Belicheat**** stated they were expecting some trickery this week from them in his press conference. Go figure.

Yep.....to go left because no one will be expecting us to... :)

The colts got HOSED on the surprise onside. NE never had possession, and the Colts recovered. Yet after a review, they were unable to see what I can easily see from home? That ref's judgement call was worse than this aborted attempt at a 4th down conversion.

Pagano has to be the biggest idiot this Sunday..............that ranks near the top in "WTF can you possibly be thinkin with conceiving that BS and allowing it to even be put in a gameplan".

Theres your idiot right there.......im headin over to the Colts forum just to see the nuclear fallout over that calamity...should be interesting

My wife doesn't follow football all that much and even she was wondering what they were trying. Snap the ball with no OL around you and three defenders ready to pounce? And it was an illegal formation to boot.

loved how the ref called the flag "the whole right side of the line was not on the line of scrimage" LOL

One of those "Da fuq izzat?" moments.* See? Tomlin and Haley are pretty good by comparison.
Couple things I've come to realize this season. There are a lot of bad coaches out there and Tomlin is not one of them. There are a lot of bad QB's out there and none of ours (even Vick) is one of them.

* Note that when Belicheat does an oddball alignment like he did last year, his **** works and they make a new rule to keep him from doing it again.

That is EXACTLY correct, Cope, and the reason the NFL Network is hammering on the stupid fake punt call. Indy had the damn ball on the onside kick, and the refs completely gagged that call. Incredibly bad call, but Pagano gave the NFL and fans something else to focus on with that idiotic fake punt. (I think fake punts can work, but one designed solely to take advantage of formation is not going to work against a well-coached team.)

I've never understood trying the "swinging gate" in an NFL game. It's a high school play that most college teams can defend. The Redskins ****** it up pretty hilariously a few years ago when Jim Zorn was the HC.

The Colts got screwed on the onside but after watching whatever that was on the punt...I stopped watching. My kid and I were watching the post-game presser and Pagano said "you know" 36 times in 3 minutes! At least our HC uses bigger words and doesn't sound like an idiot at the presser :grey:

Of course he knew something was coming. He probably sent rain man and a couple of cameras over to the Lucas Stadium to take a peek at what Pagano and his guys were cooking.

Ya know Ron, I'm starting to have faith in Mike Tomlin as well. Sure he has the deer in the headlight look from time to time and makes a questionable time management approach. But the guy is upper mid-maybe even top 5 coaches now. As much as I like to bash the guy. Cool shades is slowly getting a grip on the team

Not long ago I said he was solidly in the top 16. LOL.

There is a video out there of the Colts punter explaining what happened while doing a radio interview. The player that had practiced snapping the ball all week was hurt in the game and the substitute didn't know of last minute adjustments. That led to confusion and miscommunication. The ball was never supposed to be snapped. It was actually a very logical and plausible explanation.

All the more reason to question the play call. If they snapper had never practiced the play, you don't call that play with that player. All the explanations and excuses in the world don't make up for how dumb that play call was.

The fact that the player that practiced the play wasn't in the game makes it even more idiotic to call the play. Did they actually think that a player that didn't practice the play would understand what to do in certain situations? If they still wanted to try and draw the Pats offside just line up the offense and let Luck do his best to draw them off and if it doesn't work, take the 5 yard penalty and punt the ball away. As the OP stated in the title: That p[lay was a special kind of stupid.

For god's sake, just punt the damn ball! Pagano was a lame duck coach going into the season and this certainly isn't going to help his status.
