Who should start at cornerback opposite William Gay?

How can he earn it? He never gets a chance. He did make a fine play breaking up a pass in the end zone.

Boykin and Gay are best suited inside, that's their strength. Part of the reason IMO Boykin hasn't seen playing time.

Blake and Allen I think will alternate, but Allen has to get healthy enough to play which is a problem.

The worst case scenario is they can move Gay back outside and put Boykin in the slot, but I know that would potentially make two concerning areas over one.

While Allen is down I would cheat the SS over towards Blake..........

Boykin was the 4th best slot corner in the league last year. I get that we trust gut over advanced statistics but I still don't understand it

Some Blake stats for those who care.

Blake let up 9/13 and 163 yards yesterday with a TD. It would have been two TDs and possibly a Steelers loss if Palmer didn't miss his flanker wide open when dude gave Blake a nap on the turf.

How is this guy playing over Boykin?

Coulda woulda shoulda go a LONG way around here.

Seriously. Anyone else notice that on the ONLY TD the Cardinals scored on Sunday, Spence tipped the TD to Floyd? So, if Spence was able to just get one more finger on the ball, then we woulda kept the Cardinals out of the endzone entirely.

It works both ways people.

Even if a receiver trips and falls wide open, he's still open and its bad reflection on the person ( Blake ) who was covering him. In fact the Steelers are lucky many of Vick's throws were not interceptions and at least one of them was a pick six.

I call that a reverse Murhpy's law.

Good topic for you to start another thread. Run with it.

To me, Blake looks a bit stiff in the hips. I like his physicality and ball skills though. Allen doesn't seem to be able to turn and find the ball. Too bad they can't be morphed into 1 player. I'd probably give Cockrell a better look at this point.

Yes. He said the guys ahead of Boykin are playing better than him. Boykin is great in the slot but the team likes how Gay is playing there.

Al,

Based on the way Blake is playing, I find that hard to believe. A better explanation would be Blake is more familiar with the Steelers receivers in practice which had Mike Vick throwing them the ball!

Why trade a 4th or 5th round pick for a guy who's not playing, and I think is a free agent next year? Might Boykin be in Tomlin's Dog house?

Wouldn't Blake be going up against Jones who should be running the scout team?

And the Boykin comment....I believe that was explained to you numerous times already. just look back threw this thread.

And Blake is best suited for the bench, but that hasn't stopped the coaches for starting him. I'm willing to give Boykin a chance.

Me too. Good stuff and leaves me even more perplexed as to Boykin's absence. The only two times I've heard his name this year were both good plays.....the batted ez pass against SF(?) and keeping the punt outta the ez last week. Given Blake's shortcomings it's a puzzle.
