There was some thought that Shazier could make an excellent safety. Shazier's speed and coverage skills as a linebacker are excellent.

If he lost some weight, he might be able to make the transition as Carnell Lake did. Shazier just isn't durable enough to hold up in the box as a middle linebacker, where players often bang into or fall over each other. But you see far less of that at safety and the collisions that happen are often against much smaller players, and almost never vs. Offensive Lineman.

At this point, I think this is a fair conversation. It's all about getting talent on the field, and lord knows we need help at the safety position.

He was hurt making a tackle. You know that thing defensive guys have to do. He will still have to make tackles

For sure, but he will have less with larger players and pile ups. And he'll be tackling guys who are usually smaller than he is, focused on catching the football and not running at full speed directly at him.

From my understanding, he was pretty durable in college though. Hopefully it's just a string of bad luck. But I think, after returning from this, if he misses any more significant time in the next couple years, we have to consider our options

Starting to think the only way to get Shazier on the field more often is to make him a ref.

I think it's worth a shot. The guy definitely has the speed. I always thought that the Boz would of made a better safety.

I was hoping that when I opened this thread it would be video of people playing football in inflatable sumo suits. The bubble tape is good enough.

Maybe if we paid him lots of money he would get on the field. Wait.

I said this last year, I still belive we should do it.

Ryan Shazier is the first player in NFL history to be digitally scanned in his sweatsuit for Madden 2016. He is also the only player ever given a "sideline presence" rating.

Who comes up with these stupid ideas?

A one-armed safety?

Shamarko is supposedly mentally disabled, we don't need any more gimps back there

Of course he injured himself tackling a WR he out-weighed by 33 pounds. Sometimes playing fast is a detriment to your own body. Playing safety would only increase the speed and distance he would travel before impact. Not a good thing in his case.

One a serious note, I'd love to see his actual toughness/durability rating on the game. Nothing above 50 could be deemed realistic.

Ryan Shazier is the runaway leading candidate to win his second straight Duce Staley Perseverance Award.

They are never going to put him at safety. Ever.

Not really a comparison to Lake who was drafted to play safety, started there in his first camp, and had good enough cover skills to play corner

Shazier is out again. Will not play Sunday

Just let the china doll ride the pine for the rest of the season. Spence and Williams are doing fine enough.

He musta went on twitter or something complaining about people calling him a china doll without knowing the circumstances.

Well, dammit, that is the Steelers fault. Look, I can understand not divulging the specifics of the injury if he is playing, someone might target it, but the guy isn't playing. What exactly is the purpose of not letting people know what the circumstances are?

Isn't it nerve damage or something semi serious? I think the biggest problem is that they just won't say it's a 4-6 week injury. It's like the fans really want to see him out there cause he's good, but every week you get crushed cause he's out once again.
