Where the hell has this guy gone? Did I just miss something last night? He has like 2 total tackles in 5 games. I cannot belive he's not as good as Gay or Blake.

What is the love affair with this guy? I mean it's not like Tomlin/Butler have the second coming of Woodson or Sanders and they're making him sit. If he's not playing, it's more than likely because he: 1) hasn't picked up the defense 2) hasn't practiced well enough to gain the coaches' trust or 3) Hasn't proven himself to be better than those that are ahead of him on the depth chart.

I mean it sucks that they traded a draft pick for what's looking like a 1 year rental on a guy that can't see the field for whatever reason. However, if he's not showing that he can get the job done, or hasn't gained the coaches' trust, why the hell would they put him out there?

I wouldn't be suprised to start seeing a heavy dose of Boykin after the bye week so the Steelers don't have to cough up a draft pick. I wouldn't be suprised if that's the reason why we haven't seen much of him.

It's not the reason. Boykin hasn't looked good at all in practice. Something is hindering his agility because he looks stiff in practice. They didn't get what they thought they were getting.

He covered kickoffs yesterday and missed a tackle that would have pinned the Chargers at their own 15.

The wonder is, we were led to believe this is the guy they wanted to help the defense.

I'd like to see him at least be given a chance to return punts or kick offs.

Having Brown as a returner is dangerous.

Dri is going forward, but thats about it.

I was talking about him with a die-hard Eagles fan this weekend and he said the biggest knock on him WAS his subpar tackling. Of course the most logical place to put a poor tackler is on special teams < insert eye-roll >

EDIT - I was being facetious about the ST comment.

Another interesting question becomes "what happens to Cortez Allen if his knee ever gets well?" How does he crack the top 5 or 6 after last season.

Boykin played 2 snaps in the Rams game and that's the last we've seen of him. And I think that was only because Blake went down for a pair of snaps.

CB is solid right now, I wouldn't changed anything until needed. You asked if he's better than Gay, I honestly don't think I've seen Gay even give up a reception this year, I'm serious I don't remember his name being called once, he's been shut down solid.

Boykin is no Cockrell. After Antwon Blake's pick 6 last night, I forgive him for the all the missed tackles until next Sunday.

I think they traded for him to simply shore up depth in the secondary. They're clearly more comfortable with the guys they've had in the system. Maybe us fans looked at Boykin as some sort of saviour who was going to be handed an immediate role, but the Steelers may have just hedged their bets and jumped on an opportunity they had been working on going back to the draft. Also, I'm pretty sure nobody anticipated Cockrell showing this type of talent from the get go. I'm not particularly worried about Boykin at this point. Time will tell if he'll have a role as the year goes on and what their plans are with him for next season and beyond.

I hear what you're all saying but to give up a 5'th round pick for a guy who had success with the Eagles and can't see the field here. How is this possible? Boykin was very sucessful in Philly but can't see the field here where we have a bunch of mudhens in the secondary. This stinks! Are we that bad at evaluating NFL talent as well as college talent on defense? Mike Mitchell please stand up.

Not that our fifth-round picks have been successful, but I do question trading for a guy and never playing him. That speaks for some disconnect either in the initial evaluation or one between the FO and coaching staff.

bad attitude sent him in the doghouse?

this is avery simple thing... until they need him, they are sitting him to keep the draft pick a 5th not a 6th... he has to play 60% or less snaps for that to happen, and we are dumb enough to handicap ourselves on the field for something like that these days... he has looked good in limited action... while "learning" the defense

Would have thought there was a 'Boykin ferociously hits Vick' headline if he was practicing?

Don't know about anyone else, but I miss seeing Gay Boykin in the slot. No wait, that didn't come out right.

In the very limited time he has seen he made a great break on a ball in the the endzone to break up a TD pass. A pass defended? I could see why they would want to sit him as our other corners have shown such ability to break on the ball and rack up their pass defended stats.

Boykin has return ability as well, it would be great to get AB off returns. With Vick at the helm some of the only touches AB is getting are on punt returns.

This has nothing to do with draft pick compensation. A CB can be good for 3 years and then not good in year 4 if he has a nagging lower body injury. He's a slot CB who doesn't look good in practice so the team prefers Gay in the slot.

In very limited time, he made one nice play but also allowed some receptions against the 49ers and missed a tackle on special teams on Monday night.

I think we got him as insurance if one of our CBs didn't pan out, and of course, getting Cockrell didn't help him either when we got him off waivers. I am sure he is better than Blake, but has Blake played so bad to merit benching? If anything, he has solidified his spot so Mr. Boykin just gonna have to wait his "next man up" day...
