Ben Roethlisberger wants to play Sun vs. former OC Bruce Arians. Steelers have not ruled out possibility, but it's considered a “longshot."

I think Ben should continue as offensive coordinator for another week.

Of course, if Ben says he's ready, I'd take his judgement under advisement....this is his team.

I think you have to sit him one more week. This week is not the Super Bowl. Our hopes for this season all rest on getting an effective Ben back behind center, not one that is too hobbled to protect himself.

But man I really hope Martavis can go this week...

I think winning last night, earns another week of rest. If we lost it would have been highly tempting to play him if he said he was good to go.

And Shazier as well...........

It's a pipe dream. No way will he be on the field under 4 weeks from the Rams game. It's more than just the sprain, which may heal. The bone bruise is a 6-8week injury, and a brace can't stop weakened bones from breaking if another impact happens there. There may be techniques to get the bone bruise healed sooner (blood doping reinjected into the knee perhaps), but I still think 4 weeks is highly optimistic.

I'll wait until he has a week of practice before I start counting chickens.

He wants it because of Arians, but the truth, it's a non-conference game and not as important in the grand scheme of the playoff seeding.

They showed Ben gingerly throwing the ball before the Chargers game. I see no way he will be ready this week. They can't risk him getting injured worse so I hope that is clear in his and the doctors minds before they release him to play.

I Think that Ben enduring pain, and being a little off with his throws, is much better than the QB play I witnessed last night. Quick passes, and tell Ben to throw the ball away at any sight of pressure.

Heinz57 was at the game. Waiting on his purely amateur perspective on this.
providing, of course, he wasn't drunk pre-game.

Furthermore, why would you risk your Franchise QB for an out of conference game? If we lose it, big whoop, it's not going to hurt our tie break scenarios in the AFC. If we win it great. If we loose it, it's not that big of a deal. To me it's not with risking Ben's long term health, or ability to come back fully to close out the season.

Well, Ben at 70-80% being better than Vick really isn't the question.

The issue is whether him coming back a week or two early retards his healing process or leaves him susceptible to additional injury. The bone bruise is the bigger concern, as being a softening of the bone tissue, it can make you more susceptible to a fracture.

Bingo! I agree w/this esp since AZ loss doesn't do much for potential wild card seedings. Need Ben healed as best as he can so he can effectively run the offense, not be out there trying to not get injured.

Ben needs to stay on the sidelines another week and help coordinate the plays. No sense rushing him back since he will be depended on to get us on a roll after the Vick experiment. We better get our deep threat back in Bryant which will really open up this offense. It would be nice if Shazier was ready to suit-up as well and I don't mean in sweats.

He did run out onto the field last night although he looked hobbled. He was throwing passes in pregame. He's not far off from playing. My question is what happens to his knee when he gets hit?

Shazier is putting his game jersey up on eBay. Game used...hardly worn, like new.

So I guess I'm alone then in thinking if he thinks he's ready, he should play

Well,of course he wants to play. Heat of the moment, emotional win. Can you imagine if we pulled a RG scenario in Pittsburgh with Big Ben?
Riots in the streets,I tell ya. Let him heal.

By the way, nothing makes me appreciate Big Ben more than watching these last 2 games, even if even I ,have called him a big dummy on occasion. You never know"what you got till its gone"

Ryan Shazier is the only NFL player in history being considered by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission for a "reasonable accommodation" in performance of his job. He has requested personal assistance and a modification of his defensive duties....no word yet on if his request to telework was included in the final submittal.

You always want a guy who wants to play early... you better have a coach that realizes players want to come back early and sits them a game later than he should rather than risk them being done for the season... this isnt the 70's anymore... we know that playing injured when you dont have to isnt tough...its dumb...

Assuming it comes down to a tie-breaker, sure. But overall record is what gets you in. Considering our two losses already and our remaining schedule, another loss IS a big whoop, if you ask me.

Lets see; Bruce, Carson and FitzG have beaten the Saints, Bears, Niners and Lions. Lost to the Rams in their lowest scoring game. I say Ben needs at least another week with a head set on, the Cardinals haven't played anyone yet. Philip Rivers is no slouch and Carson Palmer knows what team blew his knee into smithereens not too long ago.
