Oregon shooting: Initial reports of 10 dead at Umpqua Community College

Preliminary information indicates 10 people were killed and more than 20 others injured in a shooting at Oregon's Umpqua Community College on Thursday, said Oregon State Police spokesman Bill Fugate.

Douglas County Commissioner Chris Boice told CNN that the shooter is in custody. It was not immediately clear whether the shooter was injured.

Earlier, authorities told had said they were responding to reports of an active shooter at the Roseburg college campus.

Roseburg is a city of about 22,000 people located about 70 miles south of Eugene, Oregon, and some 180 miles south of Portland.

nevermind that in the gun-free utopia of Chicago, where guns are not allowed...

At least 14 people have been shot within 15 hours in Chicago as the city’s recent spate of violence continued from the weekend into the work week.

Six people were killed in the shootings since mid-day Monday, including a pregnant woman and her mother, who were fatally shot in the Back of the Yards neighborhood while coming home from an outing with family. The woman’s 11-month-old baby was also among three people wounded in the shooting.

Five other people were shot, three of them fatally, in a separate shooting early Tuesday morning at a barbecue in the city’s Fuller Park neighborhood.

The shootings come after a violent weekend in Chicago that left four people dead and at least 52 others injured. The weekend marked the second weekend in a row where more than 50 people were shot.

Chicago Polic Supt. Garry McCarthy said during a press conference Tuesday that police are following up on "promising leads" in both cases.

"I apologize for my frustration and my anger but there comes a time when this has to stop," McCarthy said.

According to a Chicago Tribune analysis, at least 2,300 people have been shot in the city so far this year, roughly 400 more than in the same period last year.

Last month, the New York Times reported Chicago saw the sixth highest murder rate increase so far this year when compared with other U.S. cities. The report indicated the city had 294 murders by the end of August, a 20 percent increase from 2014. According to Chicago police data, that number rose to 349 as of Sept. 20, up 21 percent from the year before.

In addition to the Fuller Park and Back of the Yards shootings, a teen was killed and three others, including a 2-year-old boy were wounded in shootings across the city since Monday morning.

  • Just before 11 a.m., an 18-year-old man was shot multiple times in the 100 block of North Kedzie Avenue. The teen was shot in the chest and arm and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital by a friend, where he was later pronounced dead.
  • Around 9:30 p.m. Monday, a 21-year-old man was shot while standing on the street in the 5100 block of South Prairie Avenue. The man was shot in the left shoulder and was taken to Stroger Hospital in stable condition.
  • A 26-year-old man was shot just before 11 p.m. while riding a bike in the 7100 block of South Winchester Avenue. Police said a man opened fire from a gangway, hitting the bicyclist in the back. The victim was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition.
  • Around 1:45 a.m., a 2-year-old boy suffered a graze wound to the leg after being accidentally shot in a home in the 7000 block of South Harper. The boy was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in good condition.

but since those don't jive with your anti-gun stance, we'll ignore them.

It would be on that subject. I would have put this in the other forum and sold my guns if that was my point.

I'm suicidal, life has no meaning, the life of others means nothing either, but at least everyone will know my name.
Spot on. I think our society has created a group of horribly narcissistic individuals, that when life doesn't meet their expectations, they hope to find fame in death that they couldn't find in life......that is, unless you are a Kardashian.

It was a gun-free campus. Funny how liberals trust criminals to obey the law.

How come we don't know his name yet?

Chris Harper Mercer

THE shooter who killed at least 10 people at a US college has been identified as 26-year-old Chris Harper-Mercer, who appeared to have bought Nazi paraphernalia online and supported the IRA.

In disturbing images posted online, Harper-Mercer posed with guns and shared pro-IRA newspaper front pages, an Express.co.uk investigation has found.

He also posted a three-minute video on the social networking site MySpace featuring IRA fighters branding guns and wearing balaclavas.

On his dating profile on the website Spiritual Passions, he wrote that he "doesn't like organised religion".

His username on the dating site was ironcross45 – a possible reference to the Iron Cross, a German military symbol reintroduced by the Nazis.

A user with the same name spent almost £100 on a Nazi SS officers' cap on a different website over two years ago.

In a review posted online, the user wrote: "I have received my order. The customer service is the very best, they are fast and very great to work with.

"I highly recommend this company they are a great pleasure to work with. there attention to detail is awesome.

"i will continue to make purchases from this company. i am very impressed with there products/service and highly recommend them. thanks Steve"

It is not known whether Harper-Mercer attended Umpqua Community College in Oregon, where the shooting took place.

He was armed with three handguns and an AR-15-style long gun, and was killed after a shootout with police on the scene yesterday, according to reports.

In his dating profile he described himself as "Not Religious, Not Religious, but Spiritual".

He described himself as a "lover, conservative, professional, intellectual, introvert" – and under his interests listed the “internet, killing zombies, movies, music, reading".

Harper Mercer also said he was "mixed race", did not drink and was a "conservative, Republican".

He also appeared to write a blog post hosted on a torrent site about Vester Flanagan, who shot two journalists live on air in late August.

He reportedly wrote: "I have noticed that so many people like him are all alone and unknown, yet when they spill a little blood, the whole world knows who they are.

"A man who was known by no one, is now known by everyone. His face splashed across every screen, his name across the lips of every person on the planet, all in the course of one day.

"Seems the more people you kill, the more your’re [sic] in the limelight."

The most recent torrent uploaded by the account username was a BBC documentary about the aftermath of the Sandy Hook shooting, according to Gawker.
