Miss Pouncey Yet?

I was never a big fan of beachum, but he has been soild at least until this year. I think that he maybe playing himself out of a big contract. The whole oline stunk yesterday. Pouncey would have made 0 difference. People seem to forget that until yesterday we had the leading rusher in the AFC. The Rams front seven is good. Pouncey often got abused by guys like Ngata so thinking he would have magically protected Ben is a fairy tale. Pouncey is a better player that Wallace, but the all-pro title is all media hype. He has not been all-pro since his rookie year. I am sure the oline will be fine moving forward.

To be fair to the OL that's a pretty damn good defensive line that the Rams are employing. They were out for blood yesterday and I know a little off topic but I still think Mark Barron's hit on Ben was cheap an uncalled for.

if the question you are trying to ask is "do you think pouncey is better than wallace", then yeah sure. i do. definitely. ask the question "do you feel better about giving pouncey big money now"... then no. no i definitely still don't. and this is the exact reason why i didn't like it then...and don't like it today as he wears his duce staley outfit.

We pay him his market value. Nothing to do with centers of the past. His value in today's game dictates his pay.

"You guys are gonna be sorry for hating on Pouncey! You'll see! You allllll seeeeee!!"

You guys realize this which of course you do but being that Vick is left handed now his blindside protection comes from Marcus Gilbert. Hope the big man is up to the task.

And here comes his nemesis Elvis. Gilbert has been very good thus far this year. And he was good last year too with the exception of a handful of plays in the first few weeks.

I think he's going to finally have a good game against Elvis this week.

We WILL miss Pouncey this Thursday. While Wallace's aggressiveness makes up for his lack of elite fundamentals, he is still not Pouncey.

When Ben is in the line-up, Wallace doesn't have to worry about LINE PROTECTION CALLS. Ben usually calls out the protections. This week, we get Vick calling them out. There's no way Vick is up to the task in 3 days...or a lifetime. He made his bones on his ability to escape the protection break-downs (which he can no longer do).

Hopefully, Munch can get someone on the OL 'up to speed' on the protection calls before Thursday.

Sack breakdown from the Rams game. Yeah we don't miss Pouncey smh

Sometimes fans just love the backup, especially when he's a white guy who's gritty and tough. He's not nearly the player that Pouncey is yet he's capable of holding down the fort. A healthy Pouncey playing alongside our other 4 starting OL would be a thing a beauty...hopefully we get to see that after Thanksgiving.

Folks here think Vick is a geriatric old man...hes older, of course and hes maybe lost a step, but when he had his step he was the fastest QB the league had ever seen. He is still, maybe the second fastest QB in the league (behind RG3). The only concern I have with Vick Is durability. He cant take a hit. But we GOTTA establish a running game. If we can chew up 4-5 clips a carry, play action would be huge. Vick can still wing that ***** 65 air yrds.

Always with the positive waves, Moriority.

IMO, the biggest hurdle for Mike Vick to overcome will be turnovers. I think I saw a stat that had him at 42 tirnovers in his last 32 games or something to that effect. In the short time he was on the field versus the Rams, he basically had 3 turnovers, fortunately none of them ended up in the Rams hands. Robert Quinn knocked the ball out of his hands and Le'Veon recovered, he scrambled and took a pretty good lick and dropped the ball, fortunately he was near the sideline and it went our of bounds and Joyner dropped a catchable INT. The Steelers won't be that lucky again. I hope Haley is giving him 1 read (2 tops) and if it isn't there then throw it away. The Steelers can't afford to give the Ravens extra possessions.

Unfortunately, no team has a running game built to lean on any longer (maybe Seattle if they tried), even when teams are having success running the ball well, it's mostly because of the threat of the passing game. Teams just can't line up and run the football in today's NFL; a byproduct of the athletes coming out of college that are playing mostly in the zone read or Texas Tech, Baylor, TCU style offenses. Linemen aren't coached to drive block which is needed to establish a running game that can control a game, IMO.

I hate to say it, but Vick might be best served with the quick release bubble screens and a heavy dose of Bell and Williams running to mitigate his turnover issues.

As for Pouncey.....NOPE! I don't get all the hype. He's good, not the best and definitely not the best, or even in the top 4, centers we've had. He is injury prone and unreliable. Wallace was beat by one of the best DLs in the NFL and Beachum was unusually man-handled on Sunday. Pouncey would have been just as bad, and he probably wouldn't have made it through the entire game.

HUH? What does past centers have to do with now. He is the best center now. Injury prone?? Every injury he has had has been someone falling on his legs. Pouncey has trouble with big DT sometimes. That's it. I really don't understand how someone can be universally lauded as the best in the biz by everyone except some in his own fan base. He would start on all 32 teams but here he sucks go figure

Ya, I miss Pouncey each season he gets hurt, often at critical times. Why it seems he's almost always absent... So we simply throw money at a giant black hole...

Your point?

The past centers thing was just a point I was making that he isn't going to ever been in the same breath as Webster, Dawson, or Hartings. That's it.

As for injury prone and someone else falling on his legs. Pretty common problem for the universally lauded best center who is on the bench too much because of it. I'm not saying he "sucks", what I am saying is I would rather have a consistently reliable center who protects then the best in the game who is constantly on the bench taking up valuable salary cap space. No matter the mechanism of the injury, the fact is he's missed over 18 games, plus playoff action, since his 2010 rookie year I don't see the results to argue he is the best. His loss doesn't impact the team outcome in any of the games/seasons below.

Rookie season he is on a Super Bowl losing team and should not have started with the ankle injury that took him our of the AFC Championship game. Plus he had hurt his knee earlier in the season. We had 126 yards rushing in that SB. To MP's credit he did recover a couple of fumbles for us, but was noticeably hampered by the injury.

The next year he missed four games and the wild card round. Legursky started for the "Tebow" wild card loss, We had 150 + yards rushing.. Ankle again. Surgery in the off season.

2012 he has a consistent season. A few missed games and snaps to inury/illness, but nothing to ***** about. Probably his best season as a Steeler.

2013 lost for the season due to a really unlucky cut block by David DeCastro. ACL/MCL knee. Surgery again.

2014 is another good season. He starts in a home playoff game where Ben is sacked 5 times and we only rush for 68 yards. Granted we had zero run game with LeVeon out, but Pouncey was beaten up pretty good that game

2015 he is out...for how long? Ankle again. At least 10 games and maybe longer. Without MP in the center spot we have rushed for almost 300 yards in three games. Ben has been sacked 5 times and we've scored 76 points in that time. Not bad with a back up center and a back up running back.

He can't, and won't, stay healthy. Ankles never get better, or stronger, and knees are career enders. Pouncey has had both with surgeries.to follow. Doesn't look good for the guy. I'm not saying sell his jersey on Ebay. I'm just saying it won't be worth what you paid for it.

Face it, the dude is injury (or maybe accident) prone and I don't think he is really all that missed by this team. Ben...maybe.

Don't kill the messenger. /\

So with all those facts how is he considered the best in the game?? I mean people who have played football consider him the best. Coaches like Munchak who is a hall of fame OL and OL coach would vehemently disagree with you. The Steelers who are as frugal as it gets and never pass up a chance to say to a player here this is what you are worth take it or leave it( Wallace Beachum) had no issues paying him a huge contract. Doesn't make sense since he isn't that good and easily replaced.

IMO IF Pouncey doesn't have a Twitter rant or wears a free Hernadez hat we aren't having this convo

See, I think he's a fine player, when he plays. I don't know that he's the best in the game. I wouldn't necessarily say that, but I think he's pretty good.

The problem is, he's too often injured. It doesn't matter if he's the best ******* center that ever played the game if he missed 1/5 of games. Cause well... he misses 1/5 of the games, see. Do we get 1/5 of the money back? No? Ok then. There ya go. I'm sorry he's always on the sideline rehabbing an unfortunate injury. I really am. I'm sorry I'm not the best center that ever played the game, cause I'd go play for the Steelers for even less than him. But it would seem that fate is fickle and cruel.

So, what ya gonna do?

I'm sorry I just can't fault him for the injuries he has had. I can see if they were "I'm a lazy **** who doesn't take care of my body" injuries. And even with his injuries the Steelers who like I said find ways to not pay too much didn't low ball him at all.

Ah...agree to disagree. I don't really care about the fitted hat choices he's made. I just want his *** on the field or the money back to put towards a shut down corner.

Even if we get a shut down corner we're still going to play him ten yards off the ball :whistle::whistle:
