Hats off to the Defense this week...

Was impressed by Shazier and some of the line play. However, they still have work to do. Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves, that Niner team is a shell of its former self under Harbum. The play and aggression was much better. Let's see if they keep it up.

You know, this is silly.

The defense absolutely did a great job given what they were needed to do yesterday. The offense put the 9r's in a big hole early and the defense got to tee off. They got 5 sacks and kept Kaepernick uncomfortable all game. Sure he made some throws and he even made a couple big plays, although I don't know HOW on earth anybody calls Boldin's catch a TD. That doesn't make any sense to me at all. In the end it doesn't matter at all though.

If the offense can keep the other teams in "terrified" mode the defense is really helped out. They can afford to be more aggressive at the line and that's going to make them look better. They played a MONSTER game. So what if Kaepernick got some yards. The 9rs got their ***** handed to them and the score wasn't nearly as close as the numbers indicated. Hell we even got a TURNOVER! This team barely even remembers what those are!

I'd say Nice Job D! Well done. And I'd congratulate the offense for putting the defense in a great position where they could gain some confidence and assert themselves. A little confidence can go a long way.

So, while I'm GREAT at being a super negative dude, I'm pretty happy with how things went. I'm just fine with saying well-done fellas. Way to step it up. Lets' see you put together a couple good games and put some fear into opposing OCs. Let them try to figure out how they're going to put up 35+ points on a defense that's planning on throttling them back and has a few aggressive and solid playmakers on it.

Let the OC's worry about an opposing offense that can potentially jump out to a 16 or even a 24 pt lead before your offense even has a chance to get through your scripted plays. That puts a great deal of pressure on the other team. Pressure makes teams press. Pressing makes teams force things. And that's when opportunities arise. I'm just sayin'.

The D played a big part in the offense rolling out to a big lead (I think at least 3 of the 5 sacks occurred early on)...they weren't just the beneficiaries of the offense putting the D in a good spot. But I agree, our offense may get to the point where the other team comes into the game almost in desperation mode knowing they need to put up a huge amount of points to stay close (Manning and the Colts were at that point a few years again...when teams would try to on-side kick against them just to "steal" a possession from the Colts O).

Never been a huge fan of Blake. No idea why we start him. How did Cockrell look yesterday? He played...right?

He played a lot more than Boykin based on the snap count numbers I've seen on Twitter.

Timmons is a ok at best not worth the pick or money so I wouldn't use him as defense of Tomlin

I have never understood the dislike for Timmons some people on this board have. He averages 7 tackles a game since becoming a starter and his yearly averages as a starter are 105 tackles (counts assists), 4 sacks and 1 int.

http://www.nfl.com/player/lawrencetimmons/2495762/careerstats

He was a pro-bowler last year and should have been in 2010, 2012 and 2013. His 2010 performance was all-pro calibre. At a minimum solid is the worst he could be described as. He plays ILB in a system that requires him to play a big role in defending the passing lanes, thus he will never get the glory sacks an edge rusher will.

What does the guy have to do to for you to get over the fact that YOU didn't like him as a PICK? IMO he has been, and still is, worth every penny we have paid him!

The "OK at best" or "average at best" as he has been described on this board is ridiculous. Is he the best ILB? I don't know anyone who thinks so. His salary cap (I think) is tops (or in the top 3-4) in the league for some years, but I'm not sure how the average per year comes out. I don't think he is top 5, but if anyone thinks he is not top-10, they are ******* crazy.

Yes, of course you wouldn't. Of course, there's not much you WOULD use in defense of Tomlin ... is there?

Speaking of in defense of Tomlin, I guess Franco and his buddies aren't going to show up this week. What a surprise. Im sure they'll be back after the next loss. Or the minute we don't call a time out in a 2 minute drive. Lol.

writing this as I finally can watch the full game play by play, Heyward was everywhere, making stops even in open field, the sack was a great push too and even on Shazier sack, at least half of that sack is thanks to Heyward collapsing the pocket practically through the middle forcing kaep back and making Shazier's long loop to the outside of the LT efective to catch the qb.

Gay showed good play recognition through the game, especially when he jumped that bubble screen in the 1st half avoiding the block and destroying the WR just as he catched the pass

some observations of the start of the 3rd Qtr:

- Shazier running through traffic was A MA ZING on the first play making a TFL, this part of his game was an issue coming out of college right? That's a hell of an improvement and showed it through the whole game.

- Then came a complete pass for a 3rd and short which they barely completed after good penetration from Tuitt and then a hard hit from Mitchell helping against the run

- Shazier's tackle of Kaep in the open was very good, limiting the damage to a minimun

- One of the TFL of Shazier (the one starting the 3rd Qtr) was helped by Jarvis getting double teamed by a moving TE/FB and the LT. Shazier did a lightning quick cut up the middle (great vision) to get to the RB

- Then came the triple sack, the one made by Moats, Tuitt was about to get to the QB too and also a split sec later Shazier (again). This play was all on the Def Coord (Captain Chaos made his nickname for the good reasons this week), Jarvis rushed from the middle next to Thomas, Tuitt went to ROLB spot, Shazier from the other side on the far left and Moats jumping inside on a stunt. It was a 2 / 4 front Nickel D with Cam Thomas and Tuitt / JJ, Shazier, Moats and Timmons (who didn't blitz, dropped in to coverage). So it was a 5 men Blitz. Just rewinded the play about 5 times, what a beauty.

Back to the game now.

Here's Shazier with the ****-tackle:

bscap0001.jpg

I bet Steelerlyn would like to be Shazier right there, she's got the hots for kaep

- Boykin with the deflected pass in the endzone just shows why he needs to play more snaps

- Shazier first step on the sack was damn fast, when the RT reacted it was way too late.

- I think Bolden's TD was just a fix to their previous redzone possesion where it looks on replay like the TE catch was actually a TD as he had both feet in and kept control all the way until he it the grass out of the end zone. Tit for tat. This refs **** up even on the reviews, it happened at least three times this game, this one and in both Tomlin's lost challenges, unbelievable

is it me or Bolden looks just like Avon Barksdale?
