Hats off to the Defense this week...

Still, imagine if Jarvis was just actually an NFL player........
 
Our pass coverage still sucks if you ask me.They got torn apart second half. I can't see them getting better.You have guys like Gay, Blake and Mitchell holding down the fort. Gay is your best pass defender and he sucked for 6 or 7 years of his 8 year career.

They eased off a bit, but I am not getting too excited after the 49ers failed to convert on two very long drives. The defense will still struggle, but compared to where they were last week, you have to be happy with the improvement.

It was an improvement, and your right the 49ers kind of blew themselves up on some drives or it could have been a different game. That pass defense is down right horrible regardless. Guys wide open all the time. I'll give them the first half of the game. Its not like they didn't try the second half. We just don't have the talent back there. Maybe give Troy a call, hopefully he will play for peanuts..lol. I don't see any other options right now since the organization don't seem to want to fix our pass coverage year after year.

The 49ers dropped some balls as well. I'm still waiting for Boykin to crack the lineup. He is apparently healthy, so there is some disconnect there with the front office acquiring him and the coaches not playing him.

Yes they did, and we made the tough catches. Hopefully Boykin gives us what we need. Regardless I still see issues if he does pan out. I am not all that high on Mitchell, Blake and Cortez. All 3 can't cover one receiver.

What a wasted pick Jarvis was. I have to give Deebo credit. The dude tries for his age. Your just hoping he makes one big play. The game has passed him by. They had to bring him back because Tomlin/Colbert can't seem to draft LB's, among other positions.

um.... Shazier, Timmons, Dupree, to a lesser extent Spence... I think we are ok on the drafted LB front as long as the Dline doesn't get manhandled up front

Timmons, Shazier, Dupree (so far) ... Even if you call Jarvis a bust, 3 outta 4 isn't a bad hit/miss rate. Plus throw in Spence and Williams ... You're right, they suck at drafting LBs.
 
Great pressure. We got 5 sacks on a mobile QB. I wouldn't be surprised to get a lot of sacks on a statue, but Kapernick is a mover, and he was dropped 5 times! Could have been more, but he is an elusive man. Great job front 7! We're getting stronger each game. Once we stop leaving players uncovered on the LOS, we'll be unstoppable!
 
Timmons is a ok at best not worth the pick or money so I wouldn't use him as defense of Tomlin
 
Except for one big play, we did a damn good job defensively. We also played a different type of QB than what we saw week 1. Now that the doom and gloom is off the table with the effort, we gotta see these guys consistently push the pocket, disrupt the passer and make plays. Tackling as a whole was so much better for this game as well. The defense still has a long ways to go, but definitely a huge improvement. Not sure what to read into it playing against a garbage QB like Kap.
 
I think Dupree will end up being very good. Imagine if we had another pas rusher opposite him? In the offseason I would try to sign Bruce Irvin
 
The LB's were feasting, attaboy to Butler...he got them playing fast
 
Um, Jarvis never gets sacks, that's why we crap on him. I think eventually we will need to get pressure from that side of the line.

At the risk of eggs and tomatoes, I think some players were excellent others were not.

Blake had 11 tackles and gave up many completions.

Mitchell's game was uneven. He was the deep help in a long TD pass against. Teams are hurting us in the deep middle.

The 49ers are a poor passing team. Kapernick completed 71.7% of his passes, 2 TD's 0 int's. While some of that came in garbage time, we should have held him to less.

Timmons lead the team is tackles last year, while being the only Steeler defensive player to make the Pro Bowl!!!
 
Never been a huge fan of Blake. No idea why we start him. How did Cockrell look yesterday? He played...right?
 
Blake had some PDs and a couple big hits, so I'm not down on him.

Yes. He played and his name was not called. A good sign.
 
I mean, Blake is ok, but I am not sold on him being the long-term starter. If stupid Cortez can get his *** in gear , and maybe even Cockrell...who knows.
 
I've been as harsh a critic as anyone but I will give them kudos for their performance yesterday. They deserve it. Something to build on.
