Going into this match up you had to think this was a win. 49ers looked like they would have a JV squad with all their losses. But then they come out and clobber a team that I thought would contend in their division and the front seven has their way. And I'm still waiting for one impressive performance from the Steelers since August. I ' m gonna be pretty nervous about games like this till we see something from this squad.

I'm with you. Somehow, with all those defensive losses, the niners manage to come out and put out a damned good showing on Monday night....makes it kinda obvious how poor a job our coaches have done in developing the skills and all-around talents of our defense, when you compare the two.

Absolutely. Then you put on that they are on a short week and a long trip. If you don't win this game WTF are you?

Only week 2 and a non-divisional (hell, non-conference) game?

Yep- all the makings of a MUST WIN GAME. lol

They'll be in a hole if they lose. Good thing the Browns and Ravens lost.

2 losses doens't eliminate you from the playoffs, chicken little... ;P

No it doesn't. But it would be nice to see a team with more experienced players come out prepared. The 49ers have a lot of new faces and look like they know what they are doing. Whilst our boys in the black & gold look confused. I'm not panic mode though. It is what it is

There are games that you circle that you expect to win. I hoped they would win last week but certainly didn't expect it. You lose games that you expect to win with their schedule. You are in big trouble.

short week? they've not played in a week and still have three days until game day.

49ers played late Monday and have to fly across the country. I'm saying the Steelers need to beat a team in that situation. Especially when they are coming off 9 days since their last game.

There's only 16 games in the season all of them count. I don't think this is a MUST WIN but it's important for fostering a winning mind set with the team.

Am I the only one that watched the Niners game and came away unimpressed? They shut down the Vikings the first week of the season, lets not start crowning teams just yet. They ran the ball well, but Kaepernick looked lost out there. Their D was good against the run, and "OK" against the pass. They got VERY lucky that a PI wasn't called when Bridgewater put it right on Mike Wallace hands in the EZ. I'm not saying we are going to walk thru these guys, but "pounding" the Vikings isn't exactly awe inspiring.

Their defensive backs were right on top of the receivers. Yes, Wallace was subject to interference, but that was because the CB was on his hip. The 49ers knocked down several passes, and rushed the hell out of the passer. They also completely stuffed Peterson. So to sum up, the 49ers (1) covered the Vikings receivers, (2) knocked down passes, (3) rushed the passer and (4) stuffed the run.

Their defense was quite good.

I only saw the first half of the Viking/Niner game. Bridgewater and the Vikes looked clueless, Hyde looked pretty good for the Niners. Colin Can'tThrowaLick looked like he always does, dump offs and a few scrambles.

Their defensive line actually pushed into the backfield - I forgot what that looked like with our group of dancing bears. Seems like the 49ers know how to draft DL and rookies that can come in and start right away without 4 years of pine splinters first. Amazing

It's a must win cause I have a lot of friends who are 49ers fans and I don't won't to hear no ****.

Relax all! Steelers will rebound this week and beat the Niners. Sure they beat the Vikings but nothing special with Vikings. I think offense has a big game and defense will do just enough and we get the w.

Peterson hasn't played in an entire year, and you could see he was pressing to make the big play and not take what was there. On a screen pass, he abandons his blockers to try and make the highlight play and gets taken down for a loss. Stuffing Peterson isn't impressive in his current state. Neither is them rushing the passer, the Vikings OL was horrible. I still don't see the 49ers as being all that impressive as the OP put it.

and if they don't win, the ping pong tables are history!

I thought the first punishment was to prohibit players with 4 or less years experience from playing. Then, if things don't turn around, everyone gets a timeout.

No it does not. But the data says you're in trouble.

Since 2007, 66 teams started 0-2. Only five of them turned it around to make the playoffs and one (the 2008 San Diego Chargers) made it with an 8-8 record. The Indianapolis Colts from last season, the 2013 Carolina Panthers, the 2008 Minnesota Vikings, and the 2007 New York Giants are the only others.

With our schedule I would place each game a must win. We still have no idea how the defense will evolve each week so we will need the offense to score.

The 49ers stuffed Peterson in large part because their defensive line imposed their will - Spike made a good point on this issue, above. Further, their pass rush was excellent. Bridgewater has a lot of defects, but he has pocket presence and the pass rush just destroyed him.

I think the Steelers have a better ___________ than the Vikings.

WRs
QB
ILBers
TE
OL

and 49ers didn't play a NE caliber team if we must compare

I don't think it going to be a walk in the park, but a game the Steelers are very capable of winning.

Control the clock, win TOP and turnover battle = victory.
