Write up on Jones' game

That wasn't the entire series. That was a set of 4 plays within the series NOT the entire series. They cherry picked those 4 plays within a 9 play drive. Everybody knows why they looked at those plays. It was the only tackle Jones had the entire game.

The point of the article was that Jones played better - noticeably better - than in prior games. The author said as much in the article, and pointed out the highlighted plays to make the point.

Since the point of the article was that Jones played better than in games past, picking his best plays makes sense, no? And yes, I agree that Jones has a lot of room for improvement and needs to beat the blocker more consistently.

But that's just it. The guy obviously watched the game and saw the one play where Jones scrapped the LOS and made a tackle. He then goes and finds that play and strings the other 3 together with them to say he played better than last year. Do you know how long it would take me to get run off the board if I made that statement? Or if I selected 4 plays (like where he was pancaked) and said because of these 4 plays Jones is still as bad as last year? It's ridiculous on it's face. You can't do that with 4 out of 24 plays.

Also one of the 4 plays was when Jones was falling on his *** and was able to touch the RB with his arms. Really? Jones wasn't able to do that before this season? The article tries to make it sound like they just selected these 4 successive plays at random when nothing could be further from the truth.

There were two issues with Jones when he was drafted. He always had the bull rush and the loop around the edge. He has no other moves. These 4 plays show absolutely nothing that everybody hasn't already seen. There are no new moves. Jones was hurt last year when he bull rushed into the LT and got to the QB. So the guy can't say he is improving if he's seen the exact same play before.

The rotation of the 4 OLB's will be a positive for the Steelers this year and I think we
see a better defense as the year progresses.

4 positive plays would be more than the zero positive plays some posters are expecting each game.

Show me where I said it. Either put up or shut up. I'll wait.

This is the reason nobody respects sport journalism. He pulls 4 plays out of 24. One of those 4 his accomplishment is "He got an arm on Lewis". He didn't tackle him nor did he change his direction. He did nothing but he got his arm on him. Jones is falling backwards and gets his arm on Lewis. WOW.. just a few more series like that and they'll pick up his 5th year option. Jones had 2 good plays. He scraps the line and tackles the RB and then he forces Brady up in the pocket. That's it. 2 plays out of 24 where he does anything at all.

im sorry. My reading comprehension may not stack up to yours and your "ilk". This obviously is saying you are a Jarvis Jones Fan and member of the alleged pom pom club. Sorry to make you wait.

I'm still waiting because nowhere in there did I say he sucked. I was taking issues with the article. You don't have to be a fan to not think someone sucks right? I guess you think Brady sucks because you aren't a fan of his?

I think Brady sucks because I believe that Gissele "Tucks" ... j/s

I didn't see where Jarvis was falling down and managed to flip his arm on Lewis.
Looked like a solid play to me.

Where is Jones' back when he touches the RB? The RB jumps right over him. He dives back first instead of keeping his feet and trying to make the tackle.

oh. i see. you were referring to a completely different play.

Oh boy. The guy doesn't even know that Buffalo was using it's backup RT to play LT. He keeps saying starters. But those are pre-season starters NOT regular season starters. Either he doesn't know or he is being intentionally deceptive. Then he takes the same play that the other article writes about where Jones has a good bull rush and tackles the RB. Then he makes an assertion that Jones is better this year with nothing more than ONE play in the regular season and a play where Jones basically falls to the ground against a backup RT playing LT in a pre-season Bills game. Jones has always had a bull rush. Again, how does he not know that? He was hurt last year on a bull rush.

I get it. Jones has turned the corner and is obviously so much better this year. Great. I'm sure the sacks should be following soon right? I mean half a tackle and 0 sacks against the pats***** must mean better things are coming.

those are the same plays against the cheats

Against the Patriots, Jones did have a couple strong rushes against a good LT: something of which he showed virtually nothing in his first couple seasons with the team.

I'm not ready to say he is turning the corner either, but I do think he flashed some things in the opener that I honestly didn't think he possessed.

I WANT Jones to do well, I just don't think he can.

I actually always liked his bull rush. It just can't be one of the two things you can do. He still hasn't shown much of anything besides it and the loop around the end. He may get better at those two but that isn't enough to be a ROLB in a 3-4. He needs to get to the QB. I understand that the secondary is struggling. But you need something from someone. I'm sure the secondary is wanting some help as well from the pass rush when they do cover for 4 or 5 seconds... which is rare.

The Steelers didn't expect Jones to start as a rookie, partly because they didn't expect James Harrison to leave the team for the Cincinnati Bengals in 2013

What? And then I stopped reading. Harrison was a cap casualty in 2013. The Steelers not only knew he wasn't coming back, they initiated the movement. It's the whole reason Jar Jar was drafted to begin with!

Actually, iirc they let him go and gambled that no one else would want him so that they could bring him back at a lower salary. This after asking him to take a pay cut. But, whether Deebo was here or not that season, they were going to draft an OLB ... problem is that ... no matter what, they were going to draft an OLB.
