Was he even active tonight?

I find it hard to believe he can be any worse than Blake.

Tomlin is an alleged DB guru, no proof of it but the moniker stands.

Boykin was active. Blake was complete garbage tonight...4 missed tackles...he's in my doghouse! He and Cortez Allen were both pathetic tonight! They better get that kid Cockrell up to speed too.

Gronk gave those guys a hard time. Julian Edelman was even lowering his shoulder into those db's it was brutal to watch

Seems to me the whole D was inactive.

What a 4th and a 5/6 given up and one guy missed two make able field goals and the other basically didn't play. Great start.

I can't remember seeing Boykin on the field at all. Unbelievable.

It takes time to learn the Steelers system of who to leave uncovered near the goal line, Tomlin is a DB genius I have heard over and over although we never have a good secondary or develop young players

We traded for the best slot CB in the league and played against the best slot WR in the league yet don't play said CB, Tomlin is a ******* genius.

Blake was atrocious. How those coaches can watch that and not even give Boykin a series is beyond me. And they kept Blake over McCain, too. It just boggles the mind.

However they need to get Boykin up to speed and playing, they need to do it.

Boykin, is he injured and didn't play because of it?

Did he break a team rule and that's why he didn't play?

No reason not to play this guy unless he was hurt or in the dog house for some BS.

Hope to see him next week.

Boykin did not see a snap on defense. Something is surely going on with him (health, attitude...something) because Butler played just about every other active defensive player.

That's just it, there seemed to be NO COVERAGE. Everytime a *pat receiver caught the ball, there was no one within 5 yards of him. Then, there was one to two missed tackles and substantial gain. I was all for moving on from IKE, but at least he tackled the guy as soon as they caught it.

Could Boykin have been more confused than the secondary was all night? I doubt it; I'm not sure why he didn't play. That's as big a head scratcher as the trickeration play on the first drive.

I have no idea why Blake plays, or starts. He isn't that good. No idea what the FO sees in him. Just start Gay and Cortez, Boykin in the slot.

Why in the **** wasn't he out there? I do not want to hear " he doesn't know the defense yet" bullshit either. It's apparent none of the other DB's know it either ... unless the game plan IS to let every receiver run completely unguarded through the secondary without doing anything to jam them or somehow impede them in any way. He couldn't possibly be any worse than Cortez or Blake or any of the other second rate players we have back there. Two little midget receivers without any of the great physical attributes most great receivers have are apparently unguardable. Gronk is a beast and how much better of a player he is compared to anyone the Steelers threw at him couldn't have been more obvious. Brady has owned the Steelers with their "play 8 yards off the receiver" style for years, but every time we play them we employ the same tactic... with the same results. Didn't someone say that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over but each time expecting a different result. I don't think it's insanity but rather stupidity. Play press coverage for Petes sake... If they beat you deep so what. What difference does it make if they score on a 10 play drive or a 4 play drive. Actually the latter has the benefit of your defense playing less snaps and consequently having less chance for injury.

The craziest part is that Blake lined up in the slot last night...for the FIRST TIME in his Steeler career. So not only was Blake playing ahead of Boykin, Blake was playing out of position at times in the position where Boykin has excelled.

Nothing they did in the secondary made any sense at all. It was like they had a guy off the street calling plays and moving guys around.

Blake had one of the worse games a steeler d back could have dating back to Cortez Allen's meltdown last year. Seeing them both on the field together is scary. It amazes me as to how the secondary has become so bad. They were embrassing bad last nite. leaving gronk uncovered running up and down the field as on player said " looking like a teen playing with second graders" was pretty hard to watch.

Blake had a bad camp and preseason and it carried over to the games. Not sure how any of the coaches could have watched him and played him let alone start him. I'd really like to hear why Boykin didn't get a snap.

Sometimes coaches know better than irrational fans. But sometimes the fan consensus is correct. This is a case of the latter. Boykin should not be any worse than the nickel (i.e. #3) CB. The only acceptable explanation is that Boykin has some kind of injury that allows him to practice but he can't play anywhere near 100% (in which case Tomlin would be player fast and loose with the rules for not listing Boykin on the official injury report).

Gay and Cortez should start, Boykin in the Nickel...case closed.
