I take solace that we walked out of this game losing by a single TD to the world-champs playing at home with a fired-up Tom Brady. I mean really, if only a touchdown separates us from the so-called best team in football, I guess we shouldn't feel all that bad. Playing our first game without LeVeon, Maurkice and Martavis, and a D that looked dazed and confused most of the night, the play-calling was wack, everything seemed out of order, and again, we lose by seven points. I think this team can build on this and beat the 49ers next week. We come out of the no-LeVeon stretch at 1-1, we should be in pretty good shape.
BUT there needs to be a thorough re-thinking of defensive scheme and personnel. They have to figure out their rotations, including getting Boykin in the mix, and do it fast. I'm starting to point a finger at Carnell Lake, he's got to stop dicking around and get the best men on the field. So it's back to the lab for Butler, Lake and Tomlin. Get this thing fixed, as the back end is disastrous and the communication mixups are unacceptable.
On O I think they need to see Wheaton and DHB for what they are, fairly limited, 4th-5th string type guys. No way should Coates continue to sit. He's a big-play guy, always has been, they should have him running whatever routes Martavis does regularly and just go with it.
I hope that's the last field goals Scobee misses for a good while. Both kicks were off to the right, don't know if there was some mix-up on the snap & hold, but they need to clean that up. Scobee was brought here for a reason, he's got to build on his two made FG's and put the pathetic start behind him.
