We have no NT on this roster. McClendon is not a NT who can stuff the run. Big Dan has taken a step backwards since the end of last season but I still think there is hope for him. Why not bring in a true NT, a former #1 pick as recently as 2011 and give him a look? Taylor was playing well until his injury but I think he can help this team.

I'm not one to push for the team to pick up other team's cut players but I think the Browns may have over reacted here by drafting Danny Shelton and giving up on Taylor so soon. I'm not saying Shelton can't be a very good player for them but I think they had that in Taylor but the guy just had an injury which slowed his progress. I know we won't bring him in but I think he's definitely worth the look. Tomlin in his infinite defensive wisdom is stuck on McClendon who gets thrown around like a rag doll. He's not a run stuffer but more suited to play on the outside.

I think that's been a huge problem with this defense since Hampton hung them up and why this defense continues to get worse. We need a real NT.

Probably because they have already seen him 2 games a year since he's been in the league.

Bring in the guy that took repeated cheap shots at Ben, unlikely

As I mentioned, he's better than what we have now on this roster.

Phil Taylor visits Steelers

On Tuesday, the Browns gave defensive tackle Phil Taylor $5.477 million to not play for the Browns. The Steelers may now be paying Taylor even more to not play for the Browns.

Per a league source, Taylor visited the Steelers on Wednesday.

It was only a visit, but it could lead to something more, given that the Steelers could use any help they can get on defense.

A first-round pick in 2011, Taylor asked to be released by the Browns after Danny Shelton emerged as a starter. The Browns made no request that Taylor reduce the money he’s owed or agree to provide any offset in exchange for his freedom.

I think he could outplay Cam Thomas in every way.

He will be looking for another payday... but will have to prove it this year. He should come at a reasonable price.

If healthy, he will outplay McClendon and everyone behind him. He will also make Heyward and Tuitt better by drawing the double teams.

After watching some highlights of the last preseason game he was in, I think he might be done. He looked pretty bad and definitely is favoring his knee.

He only played five games last year for the Stains and there has to be a reason(bad knee) why the Clowns released the First Rounder.

I know it's a different league, but the transition between I believe Steed and Hampton had some rough defenses, which were far better than what we have now. This defense thrives when they make teams one dimensional. Without the ability to stop the run, they can't stop anything with consistency anymore.

I hear what some here are saying, if the knees hurt, there is NOTHING he can do for us.

Salute the nation

If he is healthy then he's better than what the steelers have. He can be a run stopping NT and he has enough athleticism to be a 2 gap DE in the 3-3 and that may be part of why the steelers are interested. If Tuitt will miss some time then they are looking at Cam Thomas starting and that's not good.

McCullors has had a disappointing preseason. He showed flashes last year but not much this year.

Cleveland was able to release Taylor because their first round pick Danny Shelton looks like a stud. He's going to be an impact player like Ngata.

As a side note, Taylor was one of the players kicked out of Penn State over the apartment fight a few years ago. He was not a main instigator so he was given a second chance then he was kicked out later when he missed some team meetings. He's not a bad guy just a bit lazy sometimes.

His knee needs repaired and the rehab would take too long. So the Steelers aren't interested. (per multiple sports news outlets)

No signing.

Don't be so sure.

Maybe he, Trent Richardson and Brandon Wheeden are meeting Johnny Bench at the Bob Evans for some sausage gravy for breakfast?

taylor's knee is not nearly 100%. He hasn't played much but you can see it instantly. Why would the Brownies draft a replacement IF they thought they had a recovered 1st round NT on the roster? They knew his knee was toast.

Taylor comes from staph infection city, don't sign him unless you want your staff infected.

Why give money for a player rehabbing this year that could show just enough in the last 4-6 games to warrant a payday we can't afford, have I mentioned he's a cheap shot artist as well....PASS!!!

On the bright side him occupying a spot would allow us to cut someone with a future for our team (see Mauro, Williams ...)
