Should have been a hot seat not an extention

Kudos to Tomlin for calling out all the roster fodder for playing like the walking dead... have no idea why these guys weren't busting their balls trying to make the team. If not that, then at least trying to get something on tape. It's like much of the team took a bunch of Xanax before kick-off.

As ****** as the so-called first string D looked, well that's another matter altogether. I get all the Tomlin-angst - that's a known commodity around here - but why isn't anyone calling out Keith Butler? It is his D we're talking about, is it not?

I'm willing to cut Butler some slack, as I did LeBeau, because Tombert gave him jack **** for talent.

Does this mean I don't get to buy a cool Steelers 2015 pre season champs hat? Bummer.

Tomlin is getting heat because he is changing the defense. Butler has been running a variant 3-4 for years with DL. Tomlin is the one changing that into a tampa 2 coverage shell. Plus Tombert is the one drafting all these stud defensive players.

I concur with the original post in that I also wanted to see some semblance of improvement on the defensive side of the ball before extending Tomlin and Colbert. They're just awful when it comes to accessing and developing DB talent, which has become a major obstacle to the Steelers getting back to the Super Bowl with the declines and subsequent retirements of Polamalu and Taylor. It especially reflects poorly on Tomlin given his professional background being in the secondary.

The pass rush is likely to be weak once again, as Deebo can do only so much on his own. I've seen enough of Jarvis. The guy just isn't strong or quick enough. End of story. I like a lot of what I'm seeing from Dupree, but the kid is just so damned raw that it's naive to expect much of an impact this season, IMO.

I'm resigned to this being a bad defense, and unfortunately Rooney is entrusting the same people who allowed it to reach this state to fix it.

LOL I missed the watching the game because I was away so I recorded it. When I got home and went to watch it stupid NFL network had A Football Life on instead of the game.

When I seen the score and read some of the threads on here now I am about half glad I missed it.

Must have been ugly.

And the chicken littles are back in force. **** people they may be bad or maybe they are trying to see if they can run the cover 2 and make teams prepare for it and then we will be back in our more standard look. Who knows. all I know is that I have seen us look like **** before in the preseason then look like an entirely different team when we start playing games that count. YOu would think we were half way through the regular season and winless. Patience people patience.

Do you really think they've talked about making changes to the defense and practiced it throughout camp just as a decoy? On a defense that has struggled recently and has six players with three or less years on the team in the starting lineup? If anything, they'll shifting towards using this defense more unless they dump it like they did with the zone-blocking scheme after it was a monumental failure with some of their old OL coaches.

For a Cover 2 Defense to be very good you need superior athletes at that position plus you need to be able to get pressure from your guys up front without blitzing your LB'ers. The defense as a unit isn't even close to having that so to me implementing a Cover 2 scheme is senseless! Tomlin need to play to the strengths on his defense and not their weakness. I just don't get it....I have said it all along this will be the worst Steelers Defense in 50 years! If they give up less than 400 points this season I'll be amazed!

3 drives 3 points a is all Vick did, his whole career is based on excuses and over hype on his great running ability. Scattershot QB with a great arm, can't read defenses or make the subtle plays and no pocket presence, stupid QB.

Preseason game with no injuries is a win, jackass.

The only thing I can say in our favor is that according to Tunch and Bill on the SIRIUS/XM home feed of the game, the Bills left their starters in up trough the end of the 3rd quarter. The Steelers were rotating guys trough the entire game. That can be taken two ways however, either our coaching staff is confident enough to have everything set in stone or our coaching staff still doesn't have a clue as to which players they are going to lock in. I choose to believe the first part.

I want to see what others see in Tomlin but can't get to it. I never see where he has this tem ready in certain situations as when we play a team we should beat or where he changes the team from first half to second when needed. I don't get his draft selections. He has what he wanted now coaches and most of the team are his choices, time to prove you are an elite coach in coaching and winning. This season is going to be an eye opner, as much as I hope it is in a positive manner, preseason point to the other direction. Looking at the schedule and when we paly our division could be a big OH NO.

That's true for game starters NOT their real starters. I've said this in several threads. They didn't have their top 5 WRs, top 2 CBs, and 4 of their 5 RBs. So yes they played their "starters" longer but those guys aren't their real starters. Almost all of those guys won't be on the team next week. The OL was the only real starters playing. They had 12 inactive players.

But lets also say that outside the QB position the Bills are maybe the most deep team in the league... there are more than a few people saying if they find the right QB they are going to be SB favorites...

If all this is true(and I have no reason not to believe you) it might be a very long season this year. I personally didn't think our defense could get any worse, but maybe it can.

Steelers OLB Harrison compares defensive performance vs. the Bills to Burger King

If you were one of the many fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers to put yourself through the torture of watching the Steelers vs. Bills preseason game Saturday you saw how bad the defense was.

"Today was a horrible performance," Harrison told Dale Lolley of the Washington Observer-Reporter. "It was like Burger King. They were having it their way and we were serving it to them."

Mike Tomlin certainly knows how bad the team performed on Saturday, and his post-game comments were a far cry from his usual comments made towards individual players and the messages he conveys to his players.

"Usually, I'll reserve judgment until after we've watched the tape. But it doesn't require a lot of tape study to kind of analyze some of the things that were issues in that performance," said Tomlin. "We continue to be slow starters. That's disturbing. We've got to address that. Some of our young guys, who are fighting for jobs, quite frankly, are not executing with enough detail to be in consideration. And that's disappointing."

I will take a double whopper, I am trying to watch my weight.

Vegas can't make the point spread high enough.

Here is the thing to me. I don't watch a ton of NFL unless it is the Steelers or impacts the Steelers. My buddy is a big Seatlle fan so I watch a fair amount of that with him. We watched them last night after a bbq at his house with the families. Their offensive line is God awful. Like Steelers two three years ago bad. But you watch, by mid season that unit might not be a strength on the team, but it will be a middle of the road line. Why, cause they draft people for their system and they are able to coach them up properly. Something this regime, clearly cannot do.

I haven't seen one prediction where anybody has them as even a SB contender let alone a favorite. This is the same team that beat the clowns by 1 point and scored a grand total of 11 points last week. They aren't close to a SB contender with or without a QB. The deepest team in the league? I don't buy that either.

I coach Bantam football (grade 8 and 9). I can tell you with absolute certainty that Jarvis Jones is a bust and should be cut. If you matched him up on a pass rush against Heath miller, I bet he couldn't beat him more than twice out of ten times and one of them probably wouldn't impact the play. Dri Archer obviously cannot play slot. They don't even try him there. He is a joke at running back and has yet to make any real impact play on Sp. Teams. Yet he will make the team because they are too stubborn to admit a mistake. What kind of message are you sending the team when you are cutting better players because you can't admit a mistake. So if a bantam coach can tell that ,what is that saying.
