As it stands, I hate that we signed the guy. The disharmony he created here will inevitably live in the hearts of some in the locker room. It's human nature.
As far as his past goes, Vick was raised to believe the dogs that were being fought around town were NOT pets. He admitted being a little kid and seeing the cops drop by and watch before leaving. It's the culture of the unknown. Gangbangers kill kids all the time (but they didn't really know them and aren't related so it's cool). Mothers kill their babies in the womb (but they wouldn't have IF they ever held them in their arms). People get killed, raped, robbed etc every day (but the people doing it really have no connection).
Vick was around people who raised animals for slaughter (an argument could be made that cattle are the same) BUT the one thing that put him into a small category of inhuman beings is the torture for fun and sport. Sure, he'd probably seen it done so many times he became desensitized. Is that an excuse? Can he be rehabilitated? Forgiven? I don't know. Some people believe in forgiveness for those who are truly sorry for their misguided behavior. I generally try to see the good in a person who was once a screwed up individual who now recognizes their ignorance BUT some will NEVER get that forgiveness...child molestors, ISIS and their related ilk, rapists and sadists. All of them share the common theme of doing things no human could imagine...for their own pleasure.
I will say, if you are the type to forgive those...you are a better man than me. I will not. I know folks who have had their children maimed by animals bred for fighting (rescue dogs) and let me tell you they would euthanize every last one. Is it wrong for them to think this way? When you think of the torture some of these animals went through for fun, it makes it hard to forgive.
It's still not comparable to human suffering that goes on because people are 'estranged' from normal society. Why is it ok to support a political party who thinks it's fine for mothers to torture and kill their babies? They wouldn't feel that way IF that same person showed up and cut a kid out of their guts. Why is a dog different? It's just as innocent. Vick and his ilk killed HIS animals. He didn't kill the neighbor's pets. Sometimes it's easier to choose NOT to think about it that way, although it is the same except for one being an innocent animal and the other being an innocent child.
I'm disappointed in the Rooney's allowing the hiring of a known sadistic individual BUT IF it helps raise the awareness of all the **** going on that we just "shine" and let it go because it's happening so often it has become normal then I hope it works out. I'm NOT going to stop loving my team because someone makes a decision I disagree with...I would have no one to follow if this were the case. The Steelers are my team to me. They don't belong to the Rooneys, they belong to me. None of the players working their butts off sat in a meeting and voted to have this guy come play here; why should I hold it against them? The owners are all basically selling out to Goodell anyway just as the players sell out to their agents...for money, period. If I got all caught up in what morality any team or players operated under I would probably stop watching all sports.
If it were up to me (thankfully it's not), I would level the entire middle east to get rid of these despicable humans. I wouldn't care about the collateral damage (they don't either). I would turn every pedophile and rapist into a eunich immediately following their sentence and anyone caught with drugs AND a weapon would face the chair. That would put a stop to things fast. All of the nut jobs walking the streets would be locked up BEFORE they could hurt someone else's kids. As for Vick, if he showed up in my yard and tried to take my pet to torture for sport...he's gonna face the same. His punishment for what he did should have been to work in a shelter, get to know all of the animals...then watch one by one as they are systematically euthanized. The dogs he killed and tortured were nobody's pets BUT everyone will soon meet their maker and reap the pain of their actions.
