Vick meeting with Steelers

I'm not getting your fight analogy...fighters possess a much higher level of intelligence and willingly assume the risks of fighting. Dogs are at our mercy.

Loving Michael Vick unconditionally is for his family and friends to do. Being a professional football player is a huge privilege. Being a Pittsburgh Steeler is an even bigger one. There are a million guys out there who haven't tortured animals (or done anything else seriously wrong) who would do anything for Vick's spot. I'm sorry, I can't feel bad for the guy. I just can't.

Lynn, really? You know that some dogs are breed to be protectors and fighters - GLADIATORS. I won't go into that because we should all know that.

I know you're a Christian, as am I - and I'll leave it at that - because to be a "Christian" is to be "Christ-like".

You must be joking. You are going to compare these men who are paid millions of dollars to play a game of their own free will, something that thousands of other young men would do anything to trade places with, with captured imprisoned slaves? You are hurting your own credibility.
My credibility is just fine. I have no problem seeing the larger picture that you choose not see.

I suggest that you go back and re-read history - those gladiators I referred to were not working for free - they were paid. They also were looked up to as heroes and they had many young men that wanted to trade places w/ them as well.

But, let's continue to focus on the vile act of Mike Vick and crucify him FOREVER for his actions.

That's realistic.
Save me your sanctimonious bullshit. I don't give a **** where Vick is from. Dog and other animal fighting is a disgusting worldwide cultural issue, not some southern invention or epidemic. This isn't about race, no matter how much you want it to be. Vick is a washed up QB with a disgusting past; his talent at this point does not outweigh his baggage. That's the issue I have with the signing.
I won't engage with your single-minded views. Thanks for your input. You don't like the signing - oh well, you're not paying him or anyone on the team so you can either stick around and pout or stand up and root for the team that brought us all together here at SN.

That is all.

No one's asking you to like the guy but come on man.. He's changed his life around, he's been clean for years now, even gave back to abused animals organizations.. You can't hold this over someone's head forever. There's people that's murdered people and the victims family members forgave them.. And these are animals. I know your pet is probably your best friend, I get it. But he didn't do anything to YOUR pet.. You can't defend every pet out there, THOUSANDS are put down every day, not torture but they're not regarded like humans. I know you're close to your pet but this is something you shouldn't lose sleep over... He's a changed man give him a chance.

Do you REALLY believe he's changed? Really?

Or did his "handlers" just tell him what to do, where to stand, what to say, who to give some of his money too and how to act?

Michael Vick was 27 when he electrocuted a dog in a bucket of water hanging from a chain. He was 27 when he had a "rape chair" bought for his house so female dogs could be strapped to it and ****** by multiple dogs until impregnated. He laughed with his friends while all this was going on and thought this was all "normal" behavior.

This should be the straw that causes SOME of us to re-think what being a fan is about. I'm sad it's not nearly as many as I thought it would be.

I did boycott the Eagles sponsors and wrote them letters at the time even though I'm not an Eagles fan.

I used to drink Snapple all the time. My favorite tea. Found out they sponsored the Eagles website and team, wrote them a letter and switched to Arizona Tea. When Vick left, I switched back to Snapple and wrote them a letter telling them why.
Rush Limbaugh used to advertise for Snapple.

Being done with the team would not preclude one from hanging out and chatting with the crew here. They are not and have not been part of the steelers organization in anyway. The steelers will not be making any money from this site. One could still hang out and be social with the folks on here, no longer following the team would mean just that no buying merchandise no watching games no going to games dropping a line to the steelers org to let them know it as well.
It's not like Rooney, Colbert, Tomlin, and Haley actually take our advice anyway.

It looks like they may have signed a back up and released some fans. I know I have been a fan of the team before the days of the steel curtain when all they did was loose. I have been getting tired of the **** the nfl has become since the fantasy **** has been going on so this makes it easy for me. The one thing that had me interested in the nfl was the steelers, this season it does not, I might be interested next year maybe not, see this might be like beating an addiction once over it why go back? I'll have to wait and see if I am interested in football next year.

If I don't get booted tonight (and there's a good chance I do), I will continue to hang out in the Gods and Government thread. While I think it's a bit too Fox News over there for my liking, I will still discuss God, government and politics until the 2016 election. Maybe I can hope Vick is off the team by then.

I am looking into joining an Eagles message board in the meantime to get my football fix and talk "shop" like X's and O's and salary cap ****, which I enjoy.

The Steelers are dead to me for a while.

I don't like Rush Limbaugh but as far as I know he never killed a dog for sheer enjoyment. Or molested a kid. Or bought and sold children. Or abused an innocent that had no choice.

...Jared Lorenzen - he's the 2nd ranked QB available

The first time I saw his name, I thought it was a joke.

But apparently it isn't, which underscores how meager the "QB supply" is.

So whoever thought Mettenberger could be had for a middling draft pick is probably wrong. You'd have to give up a pretty high one to get him. Same for Glennon.

Look at it this way... he is a backup steelers QB, that is almost certainly going to lead to some horrendous accidental season ending injury.. our track record with those aint all that great the past decade or so.....

What a thread!!!!! Very entertaining.....GO STEELERS!!!!!!

I got a feeling this is like finding out your mother and sister just got jobs in a discount ***** house in the region North of the Mason Dixon line, like Detroit.

This is why I would have taken Mariotta if he had fallen to us... it would be nice to have a legit prospect in the wings just in case... now we have an old Vick and a low ceiling developmental guy in Landry jones. between them they couldn't hit the broad side of two barns. That Wr coprs better hope Ben doesn't get so much as bumped this season...

And I swear to whatever GOD exists (and I'm not exactly the most religious person in the world or even know if I believe in god 100%) and I swear on my children that I WILL NOT WATCH ONE STEELERS GAME THIS YEAR.

I am going to watch the Eagles. I live in the Philly area. I have family that are Eagles fans. I can root vicariously through them. I kind of like Chip Kelly. Think he's doing a lot right and a lot new that 10 years from now we'll look back on and think "why didn't every team do this". Especially with health and well-being and injury prevention.

You guys can all hate me. I think it's terrible you're standing up and supporting this. I know I'm getting booted from here. I know I'm drinking tonight. It is what it is. No skin off my back. I know my football. I know X's and O's and salary cap better than 95% of the people here but that's just my opinion.

I'll help Eagles fans learn their salary cap and how to watch some X's and O's they haven't seen before. I'll join some Eagles message board that allows some swearing and has a good time with it and isn't all uptight.

The game is still about roster building and watching a coach mold that roster into being able to win games against teams that have the same resources available to them. It's the only professional league that does that, no matter how much Goodell does or how much the owners **** it up. As long as the rules are the same for everyone, I'm going to watch. Just not the Steelers as long as Vick is on the roster.

Hahahaha you are ******* rich! "Uh!.B...b-but I know football and suh-suh-salary cap better than you guys, so there!". Thats primetime loser material right there, Del.

Quit telling us you're gonna do it and just leave already. I'm sure we'll make do without your prestigious knowledge

I used to respect your opinion.

I used to respect your football knowledge.

I used to like you.

Go. Go root for the Eagles. Go attempt to enlighten their fanbase. Good luck with that.

Don't let the door hit you in the ***.

p.s. Next time you're stroking your loving pet, think about how you might feel if she got killed by a drunk driver. Then think about people who have lost a child, or mother, or father, or brother, or sister, or friend to a drunk driver. Then tell us again how what Vick did is so much worse than the perils of drunk driving.

You and the Eagles deserve one another.

I'm not Lynn, but what in the world are you talking about? Dogs are bred to be protectors and gladiators...are they bred to be hung and electrocuted and slammed on the ground til they're dead? You're going to talk to me about being Christlike while defending that behavior as just the way dogs are bred? Really?

Alby Oxenreiter reporting that Gradkowski has two dislocated finger joints and torn ligaments and will be on IR for the season. So we might as well get used to Vick being here.

Do you REALLY believe he's changed? Really?

I can't say I know for a fact but I do know prison can changed your whole outlook on life. I know Plaxico going to prison caused him to never carry a gun on him to clubs again. The only way anyone can ever know anything for a fact is actual facts.. And the fact is he hasn't harmed a dog in 8+ years, so maybe I do believe he's changed.

That's rich. You're more closed minded then those you constantly condemn.

Yeah it really had to be bad... You know this is a semi desperation move... a few jump ball tds vs 5th stringers isn't exactly going to instill confidence in Laundry for the FO or staff. They don't bring in a lightning rod like Vick without serious need.

'Scuse me, but didn't the Eagles sign Vick after he got out of jail?

Seeing how the Texans named Hoyer their starter this year, it made me wonder why the Steelers didn't keep him around as a backup...

He has to be as effective as Vick. I think.

Geeezus.... I figured this would go over like a lead balloon but it looks like a considerable amount of Steeler Nation will have to be talked off the ledge now that they signed Vick.

Get a grip people....

My family is all from central PA. Some live in the Philly area.

I grew up being the black sheep in the family rooting for the Pittsburgh teams because I lived there in the 1970's when we were kicking their *** in everything. It was a great time that stuck with me forever.

It will not kill me in the least to maybe root for Chip Kelly and the Eagles this year to give them a Super Bowl rather than the obvious ego driven Art Rooney II (who will burn in hell) that has no balls like his dad or grandfather before him. It would actually be fun to watch them enjoy a successful season. I think the Eagles have a great chance of getting to the final-4 this season if everything falls their way.

And I will say this (and they will tell you), I always accepted the Eagles and my family's fandom of them up until one point: when they signed Michael Vick. Then I hated them. And I openly rooted against them. When they got rid of Michael Vick, I'm back on the accepting bandwagon.

Unfortunately that stink just came to my favorite team.
