Jarvis and Golson

The Eagles were trying to trade him to a number of teams and probably wanted a pick higher than we were willing to go. It could have been a 4th rounder then. We are desperate now, so we had to give it up for him. If we had given a 4th rounder then we could have taken Gregory in rd 2 and Grant in round 3.

so we were stingy, but still got the guy we wanted at a price we were willing to pay?
damned if you do and damned if you don't

do you even read what you write?
"probably wanted a pick higher than we were willing to go. it could have been a 4th rounder then."

could have.

may not have.

would you have traded a 3rd for Boykin? or maybe a 2nd? i doubt the Eagles were looking to give him away.... which would be for less than a 4th.

That's my point. Stop being impressed by measurable's. Find guys who play football, and have a motor to go with it. Chick had that. Poor production was because he was 'misused'. The Steelers recognized his motor, and that is why they took a chance on him.... they may have been right. Only time will tell, as with the others.

You cant do that. Jarvis Jones had great college production and horrid measureables. Willie Parker had great measureables and rather miserable college production... I could literally give you hundreds of NFL examples of great college ball players that were worthless in the NFL and near total washouts or average players in college who made real impacts in the NFL. You have to look at everything and take some boom or bust shots

goddammit. we should have taken Willie Parker in the first.

This might be news to some, but it does happen that injuries can derail a career for many athletes before they really ever get started.

Sometimes it doesn't take much with the wrong injury -- especially if it effects the strength of what made that player NFL caliber -- and they never recover completely.
Life is the same way.. Major events, injuries, death, divorce,, all have major impact on your life. Gettting back to feeling your old self is often out of the question.

And after the Blount and Bell fiasco what makes you think they would of signed off on Gregory? Besides they may have hit on Chick so no need for Gregory.

As far as Jarvis goes if you can't bend your wrist back and get pain when you do I'm pretty sure that's a big deal at a position where hand fighting with guys 50 to 75 pounds heavier then you is a problem.. I've had a wrist injury and forgetting and putting your own body weight on it is excruciating. So I can't imagine jamming it into someone or having someone slapping at it. I'm just going to go out on a" limb" and say it could be a problem.

I truthfully hope Dupree ends up being a JPP type edge rusher and will hold out hope. He definitely has the athleticism. I like what I am hearing about Chickillo and if we could end up with our two future starting OLB's this draft that would be awesome. I have not given up on Jones but for me this is his make or break year. I don't think he should be handed the starting spot, again, I think right now you start Harrison (unless Jones out performs him ;) ) and probably Moats on the other side. I think at this point you can't cut Chickillo and think he makes the PS. I am sick of trying to "stash" players on there. Cut someone else who is not performing like Mike Adams (or PUP for the roster spot) or Jarvis Jones if Chickillo beats him out fair and square. I don't care if Jones was a first round pick I would rather cut his *** and have him be a stud on another team than to cut Chickillo who is performing better as a rookie.

They may have been trying to trade for Boykin in order tO not take a CB in the 2nd. Even, if, I don't think they would have taken Gregory. Besides, do you want to trade a 3rd for what may be a 1 year rental? One that doesn't know the D? How much did people here here ***** when we did that for Sanders. And he knew the Offense.

I dunno it isn't like Jarvis seems to be the type to put that extra work in to strengthen that wrist.

I am rarely ever down on players. But I am ready for Uncle Jarvis and mini me (Dri) to be shown the door.

I figure it won't happen this year though........................

There simply isn't anything about Jarvis Jones that hints that he may become a decent player. Not before the injury, and not now. He's taking up valuable space, he hasn't shown anything in the way of upside, Jason Worlds did. Heart, desire, strength, speed, instincts....., JJ hasn't displayed any of these characteristics. There simply is no 'there' there, he's an empty helmet.

For ***** sake stop the lame *** excuses. If his wrist hurt that bad he wouldn't be starting.

Jarvis is who we thought he was.

Well, if so ... There's plenty of folks who won't "let him off the hook" :)

So if Jones is handicapped with the wrist do the Steelers just write the year off again? Aren't we now getting to contract or cut bait with a guy who produced absolute zero? Not trying to be a dick here but at some point there has to be production whether they are a first round pick or taken from the FA junkpile. (except we're talking Landry Jones....then production doesn't apply)

Hell no you don't write the year off. And Joey has pretty much already told him that it's "put up or shut up" time.

Just hearing Jarvis Jones throw that line out to the media should make us all realize he's already looking for a excuse for his lack of positive plays in training camp.....kinda a CYA for Jarvis Jones.

Bottom line is football is a brutal sport....you can either make the grade or you don't make the grade! So far in two seasons JJ hasn't even come close to a passing mark.

I don't hear 37 yr old James Harrison pissing and moaning about the wear and tear on his body after all his years playing this sport!

I really am 90% done with Jarvis Jones.....he has very little chance of ever being an impact LB'er in the Steelers Defense or any other NFL Defense for that matter! HE'S SOFT!!! There I said it!

As for Bud Dupree he gets a pass cuz he's a rookie but I hope to see steady improvement throughout the season.

For Golson....hopefully he can heal up and play the back half of the season. Hate seeing a young kid go down for the season to IR.

Funny thing about Jarvis' wrist injury. Didn't Worilds also have the same type of surgery on his wrist? Didn't it take him almost a full year to get the strength and around 90% of mobility back? Now, when Worilds' wrist got as good as it was going to get, didn't he pop of 8 sacks and didn't people start bitchin and moaning about how we were going to lose him?

I did not think he was all that great and was not sorry that he is gone. He was a serviceable outside linebacker not a great one. I understand his motivation to retire and think more highly of him for that than I ever did for his ability as a player. He was not the next James Harrison or Joey Porter or Kevin Greene, or Greg Lloyd he was a good player not a great one.

I believe it is called bargaining and negotiating. Getting what you want at a price you want is just smart business, think of it as the opposite of picking Gregory.

Unless it causes intense pain when he does it or effectively makes him a one armed tackler. A wrist is a very complicated joint and can cause lots of problems for a guy using his hands. I am not a Jarvis fan, did not like the pick, but if he is still suffering with issues with his wrist they could keep him from getting any better.

The article i responded to only said he didn't have full mobility. There was no mention of him having pain or it being so weak as to make him a 1 arm player.

If his wrist is the major problem you describe then the steelers should have signed a veteran pass rusher.

Not me. I would have let him leave and not tagged his *** at almost $10 Million. He had 7.5 sacks last year and was horrible against the run and the pass. He had one sack against an OL. The rest were against TEs and RBs. Only Steelers colored glasses could explain why anybody would want to pay him top money.

Jarvis is just happy that he is no longer Subway's worst pitchman ever

In Philly, before he retired, the local media was all over Worlids. They were pimping him to be the next great pass rusher for them. At the time in FA, he was at the top of the list for pass rushers before he retired, though the FA pass rushers were not very impressive, and all the good ones stayed with their teams. Philly had bags of money to waste on the guy too. Too bad we didn't end up getting the comp pick for him, cause it probably would have been a 4th.

That would have been the best of both worilds (see what I did there). If they had signed him they would have been sorely disappointed.

They did, James Harrison
