It's that time of the year again ~ Sunday ticket

  • Thread starter Thread starter TAS

I my opinion, the NFL ( most all sports and entertainment ) has priced itself out of the blue collar fans comfort zone. The days of going to the stadium on game day and paying for a ticket, are over. Except for baseball that is but you're still gonna have to pony up a significant chunk of change.

It is also my belief that the main reason for this is the payroll and venue expenses. No way is any athlete worth what they are getting paid and neither are them Hollyweird ******** for that matter. So, after we pay for the new stadiums and pony up a couple three ( five-six) million or so for the uneducated college graduates that can run and play catch and stuff, we can dig up a months grocery money and watch them entertain us.

I love Steeler football and they know that if I love it, I will pay to see it.

Maybe

According to Darren Rovell of ESPN.com, “The median price paid on StubHub for a Super Bowl ticket this year is $3,404. That’s 56 percent higher than last year’s final median price ($2,172) and 36 percent higher than the price paid on the ticket-resale site two years before for Super Bowl XLVI ($2,500).”

Game tickets for the Denver Broncos vs. San Diego game averaged $340 on Ticket Liquidator, the web’s second-largest secondary ticket site. Last year, the average price of a ticket to see the Denver Broncos host the Baltimore Ravens at Sports Authority Field at Mile High was $229.”

It’s an imperfect model, with no one particular entity to blame. For now, the NFL is filling its pockets. Whether or not that model – a reality that suggests the most typical fan has no realistic touch-point to the game itself – can be sustained, however, is debatable.

You lost me. Is this a free site to stream all NFL games in HD or something?

A friend of mine that works for AT&T said they were told in meetings that it wouldn't be available on the U-Verse platform. AT&T has lied before.

While it might not be available this year, I'd bet it will be next season and for years to come.

Having the rights to the Sunday Ticket is one of the reasons AT&T wanted to acquire DTV. You can be sure they want to broaden its (the Sunday Ticket's) viewership. The best way to do that is to make it available on U-verse.

So as I have been know to do, I could log onto a website on my laptop; aka smart tv and hook up my converter to my tv and watch HD football with a cost?? Free sight are not HD, have pop ups and often buffering. Still be better than not seeing though

I agree Chip.

I have a contractor buddy that has let me go to all of the Cards games out here simply for driving my old crew cab to the games.
His health is deteriorating and he wants to sell off 4 of his 6 fifty yard line seats. Offered 2 of them to me for $3,400 for the season, which is more than I can handle, at least to watch the Cardinals.

Looking at the schedule I'd guess at least half of the Steeler games will be on national TV anyway.

I believe the NFL hold on forcing people to purchase the ticket only via directv and forcing people to buy every single team is coming to an end. I've said it before they should give the option of purchasing all or even a singular game. I'd be happy paying $10 a single game since like this year I would only have to purchase 6-7 games all year.

No just the one that matters

It's just the local channels
It just so happens to be in the Pittsburgh area so what ever they play 1 they play
ABC CBS NBC ect
And it is free with no popups and hd for the first three months after sign
Just go and look you'll see what I'm saying

Just got it half off then a full credit for the half off price. So I got it free of charge. Yesssssss!

Was just on the site. You can get 7 channels for free and upgrade to HD.

But it does not say that it is local Pittsburgh stations anywhere which would obviously broadcast our games.

Might be worth checking out for the HOF game.....

Watch some of it and you will see commercials ect
Or tune in at 5 and watch the news

I really get ticked that I have to call and hope I get a reasonable operator to get a discount here. Been a Directv and Sunday ticket subscriber since '97. (College football since 98 and
Hockey since 98 though I dropped it this past season.) I also don't get the prices. They have varied considerably over the years. I get the "First one is on us" marketing. (After all we all got "Free" cell phones years ago right? But how about a new "Rewards program." Something like every 5th year is free. That might help in their retention moreso than the barage of calls at this time every year.

They went about it a little different this year. They tried lowering the payment $5 at a time and didn't want to go below $180.

I turned it off. Hope you all have better success than me.

The first week is free. Just call them late on week #2 and said a friend of your got it for ( Insert your amount ) and you'll likely get it. Every year my direct TV contract is up, I get them to throw in the Sunday ticket for free that year.

Or do this. Tell them you are upset you can't access Youtube. I did. They said sorry they changed their software. They threw in HBO free of charge.

Fellas, if you have DirecTv, and are not under contract, CALL ASAP!
I originally contacted them on the internet just to see if I was under contract.
The person typing back said yes. I asked when it was up. Said he couldn't tell me on the computer, that I had to call in.
Gave me a special number with a 4 digit access code to punch in when prompted.
Immediately went to a rep whose first question was, "Why are you asking about your contract?"
I told her the wife was seeing all these deals with Dish Network and Buckeye ( my local cable ) and she felt we were getting jipped out of money and more channels.
After the apology, the very first words out of the reps mouth were, "What we can do is offer you the NFL Sunday Ticket Max for free this year."
I didn't ask for it. Didn't even mention football. That was the very first thing they said.
Not only that, I got bumped up to the Ultimate Channel package, which is two above where I was, and they made my bill $40.00 less than what I was currently paying with the weaker channel package.
I also got another Genie Mini for that will be professionally installed for free, no charge, all on a 1 year contract.
My buddy called and also got the about the same thing. He went for more movie channels and the sports package and he didn't need any new EQ.
My two brothers, my uncle, and my wife's dad ALL called and said it was just as seamless.
Word is, with the merger with AT&T, their TOP priority is customer retention. They don't want ANYONE leaving and they will throw the house at you to get you to stay.
Make that call.

Thanks for the tips.

I had a two-year contract that ended last month. (Never mind that I had no idea I was on a contract until a customer service guy brought it up a few months ago.) So I'll give it a shot tomorrow.

A related note: I got excited when I heard on a local radio show on Monday that AT&T is expanding the potential homes that can get the Sunday Ticket. Great, I thought, it'll be on U-verse...

Wrong. It'll be available via streaming for those who live where dishes aren't allowed.

Thank you for posting this. My contract ended a couple months ago. I ended locking in for 12 months and received $25 off my bill for 12 months (already had $15 in discounts), Sunday ticket max (originally only offered standard ticket) and free Showtime for 4 months. Definitely worth the call.

If you know how to use a proxy server or VPN, you could always sign up for NFL Game pass. It's only $99 if you buy the one team package, $130 for the whole regular season. --Jason

How 'bout this Zona. We were givin seats at the Jags/ Steelers preseason game last nite and we could not see any of the first half because the people in front of us were standing up the whole time. I found out ( right after I promised to knock this ******* out) that we were in a "standing encouraged section". Who the hell spends $100 for a seat at a football game so they can stand for the whole game, never heard of such nonsense. I guess there's a first for everything, glad I didn't forget to tape the game before I left the house..

Just got Sunday ticket knocked off my bill. Told them we have Fios for phone and internet and will probably switch if we can't get this bill down.

My sincere thanks fedderone, my wife did exactly what you said and they gave us the NFL Package free with 4 months of Showtime and our HD free also. All we have to do is remember to cancel the premium channels after the 4 months are up. It took an hour on the phone but not only did we get the games free but we lowered our bill by about $25 a month. You are the Man....thanks again, no way we could have kept it otherwise.

Cha cha ching!

Called retentions and got Sunday Ticket Free and $15 knocked off my bill

Just in time baby
