The Steelers have signed David Nelson (6-5, 215). He has 138rec/1,530yds/10 TDs in 5 yrs w/ Bills, NYJ. Does this mean they are finally tired of the DHB experiment and all the drops and Nelson will take his spot?

Heyward Bey is on this team because of his special teams play. If this new guy can play better than him in that area then maybe.

I think he is camp compition. PLAIN n simple. If he is good enough to beat someone out, then great signing. If not, then team not out much.

Salute the nation

they also signed RB Braylon Heard (UFA Kentucky) with Stingily hurt...

I actually think the spot he takes may be Jesse James. He is the tall red zone threat they hope James would be and even though he is not a TE they can use Wil Johnson as their 3rd TE and Villanueva in a inch. James may be practice squad bound..

No way. They aren't giving up on James like that. Nelson was unsigned at this point in time for a reason.

Obviously at this juncture we are evaluating players in terms of their potential and skill set in terms of contributing to this football team, so we need to turn over stones to see if we can find a pot of gold, if you will, and see who we have to contribute to satisfying this team's needs in the game of football, obviously.

Translation:
We need training camp bodies.

Maybe the steelers will trade Nelson to the Eagles because they like tall CBs.

Already giving up on Jesse James? Come on it was one pre-season game. Lets give this kid a chance and see if he can turn things around. I'm betting he'll be just fine.

Brilliant damn title

You think he's funny? You mean, let me understand this cause, ya know maybe it's me, I'm a little ****** up maybe, but he's funny how, I mean funny like he's a clown, he amuses you? He makes you laugh, he's here to ******' amuse you? What do you mean funny, funny how? How is he funny?

camp body. Apparently DHB has and a nice camp. Jesse James said his high school best friend died right before pre-season game 1 and he wasn't focused due to that. I expect better from him this Friday.

Did someone hack into your account?

My Take. Coates isn't ready to play and DHB is rather limited on where he can be deployed. Once you get pas the excellent trio of Brown, Wheaton and Bryant, there is a HUGE drop off. Bryant can run the DHB routes and is much better. You could say our #4WR is rather limited and out #5 WR isn't ready.

Hence a move like this was made.

David Nelson, IIRC, play decent football w/ the Gators in college. Haven't heard much from him in the NFL - but he can go up an get it!!!

There is another special teams spot he might take and that one belongs to Gavin. Not saying it will happen but that he could. There are 11 spots on special teams and it is possible the steelers could trade in another player other than a wide out if they like what this kid brings.

Nelson was during a couple of seasons the Bills' 3rd WR but they were all about the running game and he wasn´t targeted much. Remember this cause I had to pick him in a fantasy league due to a rash of injuries, the guy didn't help my team I assure you

Interesting that nelson is being dismissed because he only had 61 catches when DHB had 3 last year and 29 the year before with the colts. I have the numbers for DHB below and as a receiver he is slightly better than Ike Taylor. He maybe very good as a blocker and special teams player but nelson maybe much better for the team. With that said both maybe kept.

DHB's roster spot has nothing to do with his receiving stats. Good god look at those numbers. He is strictly making this team as a special teamer. I'd imagine Coates would be in front of him, so that makes 4 guys. If someone can do as good a job on Sp. Teams and is a better receiver he is gone.

Nelson was money for the Gators. He has great hands and runs good routes. He doesn't have elite speed, but makes up for that in his ability to just "get open"...kind of like Ward in that sense. Nelson caught what ended up being the game-winning touchdown for the Gators in 2008 (vs. Oklahoma). He's a solid player...#3 WR probably...maybe a #4 with this crew.

Unfortunately, we may never know how or if he would have pushed DHB since he's hurt his shoulder and hasn't been practicing.
