Maurkice Pouncey to Dri Archer and Steelers return teams: "We need to get past the 15

Sounds like its time for our favorite little buddy to do something worth half a ****, or hit the road

Yep **** or get off the pot

His legs are so short, 15 yards might seem like 30.

I guess archer's new strategy must be to fair catch kicks on the 16 yard line.

Unless the ball comes down one or two yards inside the goal line. Take the twenty.

Is he allowed to run backwards into the end zone to take the twenty?

Archer wasn't the only one that couldn't get past the 20. I never will understand why we it seems our opponents always average way beyond the 20 and we can rarely get to the 20. If that's the case, just fair catch it in the endzone every time. At least, that will take a fumble out of the equation.

Exactly. If Archer can't even return kicks then he is beyond useless. He would get farther if they put Pouncey on ST's and told him to hammer throw Archer after he caught the ball.
Except for field goals our ST's have sucked for years.

If he was allowed to I would say yes. I understand why you want a guy back there who believes in himself enough to want to bring it out every time, and one or two yards deep I'd say go ahead. Anything deeper than that no way. You take the knee every time. I think you are at least as likely to fumble the ball or take a penalty down to the ten or worse than to make the 35-40 which is where I'd say it would be worth the risk.

You know it's sad when you were hoping the opposing kicker would just kick it through the end zone so our returners wouldn't have the opportunity to return it.

Just for general knowlegde, if a guy runs it back into the endzone, then kneels down, it's a saafety. WHY does our return team seem to continually suck., because we bring in projects, in hopes they can develope into something. Dri Archer, currently isn't the real deal. Will he ever be? Time will tell, but I won't hitch my horse to that wagon. Barry Foster didn't field a kick off, it bounced into end zone and other team recovered for a TD. That is a "rookie" mistake. Drei got demoted from KO returns, that is a "ability" mistake. Maybe the game has slowed a little for him, maybe not. But others on the team are putting a little pressure on, so step up, even if on a step latter, but step up.

Salute the nation

Although Dri Archer has yet to find his niche on the team, he had stellar production as a kick returner in college. (better than Devin Hester). To me, it hasn't mattered much who we have returning kicks as NONE have performed above the league average. We need our ST to learn how to block in order to get our average up.

Wonderful, he played in a mediocre conference with his world class speed, think maybe Hester playing at Miami may have faced better opponents ? Hester also is and was incredible at punt returns something ASrcher did not do in college and was horrible at with the Steelers who immediately stopped putting him back there on punt returns. College stat stars are all over the NFL as backups and never has beens.

We may have another reincarnation on our hands

Agree. There have been times I don't know if I'm watching the special teams or Special Olympics. Can't blame it all on Dri.

Amen. While some of the blame can be directed at Dri---if there are only two people blocking on ST's - just how far do you expect him to run a KO back??? Speed doesn't matter if you don't have blockers...

Except for Sushi's kicks and AB's punt returns our Special Teams have sucked in most respects for a long time, going back to when Cowher, a former ST coach himself, coached the ST's himself. I just chalk it up to being the Steeler Way.

I won't disagree w comments on Archer (he was equally responsible for being a rook and not setting his pathetic attempts at blocking up). However, my point is that Special TEAMS are 11 players and there are good ones and bad ones...we have had bad ones.

Hester, was always good at punt returns, however, did you know he had more punt return attempts his rookie year w Chicago than he did his ENTIRE college career? Did you know that when he left Chicago before last year that his replacements (Chris Williams and Marc Mariani) both had over 24yds/KR? The team average actually went UP after Hester left. (he had a higher avg though).

Marcus Wheaton was used for KR in 2013. He averaged 18.5yds/KR...in 2014, he averaged 24.7/KR. He got much better in his 2nd year. I'm not sure our ST unit got better.

As good as AB has been (at everything), he averaged 10.6yds/PR last year. Dri had exactly ONE PR for 2 yds.

The coaches weren't comfortable w Dri's level of understanding of our ST schemes and his level of understanding of how they need the 'set-ups' to make things work. Dri thought he could just do 'his thing' like he did at college.
BTW, Kent State, as a team had an avg KR of 21.65 in 2012 and 17.42 in 2013. Dri's average for KR at KSt. in 2012 was 36.9 on 16 attempts. In 2013, it was 64 on only 2 attempts. He is far and away better than the ST unit he played on. MAYBE he will be able to contribute more in year 2, maybe not. I don't care as we have to get our pathetic ST squad better than they have been with whomever is back there.

So, I guess inviting back Coach Porno is a no???

Clear indicator that it's a coaching issue, not a player issue.
