Steelers Start Training Camp With 5 Players On PUP List
http://www.Invalid Link - Check SN ...art-training-camp-with-5-players-on-pup-list/

The Pittsburgh Steelers will hold their first training camp practice of 2015 on Sunday and they’ll do so with several players on the PUP list.

Following the team’s annual conditioning run, head coach Mike Tomlin said during his first training camp press conference that quarterback Bruce Gradkowski (shoulder), tackle Mike Adams (back), linebacker Shawn Lemon (Achilles), center Maurkice Pouncey (foot) and cornerback Senquez Golson (shoulder) will all start off camp on the physically unable to perform list.

Of those five players, Adams’ appears to the one who will miss the most time. Tomlin said the tackle had a back procedure done on July 20 that will lead to him being out around four weeks. The injury is a lingering one according to Tomlin and the team decided to get it taken care of. Adams is entering the final year of his rookie contract in 2015.

“It’s been something that he’s been dealing with off and on and we got it evaluated and we decided to put it behind us,” Tomlin said of Adams’ back injury.

With Adams sidelined for an extended amount of time, Alejandro Villanueva figures to get plenty of reps in his absence. Villanueva spent all of 2014 on the Steelers practice squad after he was released by the Philadelphia Eagles at the conclusion of the preseason. In addition to Villanueva, tackles Kevin Whimpey, Kelvin Palmer and Mitchell Van Dyk all stand to benefit from Adams being sidelined. Palmer was just added to the the 90-man roster on Friday while Whimpey and Van Dyk have both been with the team all throughout the offseason.

As for Pouncey, his right foot sprain happened during training, according to Tomlin. He is expected to miss a few days at the start training camp and Tomlin said he believes the injury is minor. With Pouncey sidelined, Cody Wallace should get the bulk of the work at center with the first-team offense.

“No real update or anticipated lengths of time with these guys other than Mike Adams,” said Tomlin. “That’s pretty definitive because he had a back procedure that requires about four weeks of rehabilitation before he’s ready to go.”

Once a player practices with a team during training camp, they are no longer eligible to be placed on the PUP list. For the players who start training camp on the list, they will be eligible for the Active PUP list at the start of the regular season as long as they have never been removed from the Reserve PUP list during training camp.

....besides Adams looks like none will miss a significant amount of time.

Good for Alejandro. He'll get a lot more time with Munch tutoring him w/out Adams in the way.

We have a lineman named Whimpey and another named Whimper?

Golson on PUP almost eliminates him from starting or contributing much this year. A rookie can't afford to miss any parts of camp. And, Lemon will have almost no chance to make the team now. Hopefully, both won't miss more than a week but even that is more than they can afford.

I somewhat disagree, as long as it is a week to me no big deal. It is when you get into missing preseason games......that is when the bordeline players better go ruh roh, and the rookies better know it will affect their playing time early.

But Bryant last year started off rough and that ended pretty well.

So always a case by case basis.

It still puts them behind the 8 ball. Lemon's Achilles could be a nagging type injury if not given the proper rest. He can't afford to miss that kind of time if he is fighting for a roster spot. Golsons injury hopefully won't keep him out long and they probably won't cut him this year being such a high pick but a week off is like 4 weeks to a rookie.

Real tough for Golson and Lemon to start on the PUP list. No matter how you cut it, these are guys that need to be out there and impressing every rep. Lemon's is particularly a concern given that it is an Achilles. Hopefully they'll be on the field sooner rather than later. As far as Adams goes, it does give some of the other guys a chance because we have no depth at the position outside of Adams and even he is borderline depth.

Opening camp on the PUP list isn't exactly putting to rest my issues with Golson being able to match up against the big boys

Golson has 0% chance of being cut even if he misses all year.

Maybe not cut but say he is out for a month, they may want to put him IR for the year, especially if someone else steps up and looks good during that time. I doubt they could stash him on the PS. I also think there is a chance, albeit small, that he could get cut if others look good and he is out for a month or longer.

No way in hell.

No chance. He could be out all year and they still won't cut a 2nd round pick. 0% chance.

Training Camp: Mike Tomlin Recaps Day 1 Practice

“No real injuries to speak of just general good hustle and enthusiasm,” started Tomlin. “Obviously not perfect, we’re not going to be, but it’s a good basis to begin and we’ll continue to do similar things in terms of how we structure our work and compete. We do it hard and in a professional manner is what we’re seeking. We’ve got a lot of young guys out there. We’re challenging them, we’re evaluating them but we’re teaching at the same time. I thought they did a good job of receiving the message and the instruction.”

Great that Adams had a "lingering problem" and decided the best course of action was to wait until July @#$%ing 20 before having the surgery to take care of it.

Brilliant. So freaking ideal that he did not have the surgery in, say, February since the issue would now be resolved.

Gosder Cherilus is available
kick Adams to the curb

according to Alex Kozora, safety Ross Ventrone was carted off the field a short time ago with an injured right leg.

According to Kozora, Ventrone was injured when rookie wide receiver Eli Rogers dove to make and a catch and landed on the right leg of the Steelers safety. Ventrone apparently grabbed for his right ankle after the collision and eventually needed to be helped off the field.

He is still out.

Hearing rumors that 2nd round pick Senquez Golson’s shoulder injury could be significant. #Steelers

Never mind. They kept showing an up close and it was #21 not #27. So they close up shot Golden instead of Golston. Hopefully it isn't serious
