Joey Porter Jr.............................. not dad

Seems a lot like Ramsey when he was with Jacksonville. Oh, I'm hurt, trade me, etc.
So, he's traded to the Rams, passes his physical and plays the first week he's there.
Maybe Jaylen's in Jr's ear.

Definitely, they are in same practice ect....... of course they talk, Cam too.!!!

Rather keep him

I hear yaz, but you are going to get a player under duress and may not play / cancer / crazy talk the locker room.

My trade value was only meant as if you have to trade him.

By all means, try to keep him but also remember it takes two side to make a contract.

If you're going to throw Cam under that bus, you've got to make room for TJ on the pavement too. He also had a hold-in. Difference is that they never missed regular season games. Whether that was because the front office caved or the player I don't know. However, it seems like the players in those two situations got closer to what they wanted than the club did. So, for them to be taking this hardline approach with Jr., that tells me they REALLY don't think he's worth what HE thinks he's worth.

Edit - Also remember that Graham is used to working with less talent on the defense. Maybe part of the reason they feel like JPJ isn't worth the $$$ is that ASJ has been better than advertised so far this year. He'd come cheaper than Porter, Jr.

Great explanation that probably explains the difference in approach between the Steelers and say, Jerra's cowgirls.

However, this has been a known issue for a really long time. The Steelers, and all NFL teams have made boatloads of $$$ for decades, so ownership could have setup an escrow fund years ago by foregoing only a small portion of annual income. Or they could borrow to fund same now. A few points of interest on the escrowed amount.

The Steeler owners have every right to be frugal, because it's their business and money. But the league standard is the standard, and this decision seems to have put the team in a substandard position.

That is 100% on the very wealthy owners.

Pay Joey!!
Historically speaking Steelers stars get their contracts paid guaranteed or not. Some do even better than the original if they perform. That should factor into the equation.

Cmon man….poor Rooney the multi millionaire….he will be in my prayers tonight lol…
Yeah, competing against multi billionaires who don't have the cash flow issues because they have other sources of income and are not solely reliant on the team for their personal wealth. If you have ever owned your own business, you know there is a big difference between, profit and cash on hand. Escrow means cash that isn't available to pay bills and improve infrastructure like fields and locker rooms. You can be wealthy and cash poor. They aren't cheap they are at a disadvantage in liquidity. It is remarkable how successful they have been versus the Brown family who's in the same boat.

And only the front office and Jr's agent knows what the numbers are.

If the Steelers are being cheap, say 24, then that's on them.
If Jr is looking for 35, well that's just stupid on his part.

All we can do is speculate. We don't even know whose idea it was to have him on the inactive list on Sunday.
We don't know if he's healthy enough to play or if he is, is he in game shape.

FULLY agree and what I should have said, ALL of the players talk.

I also don’t think the Dad is helping much either. Possibly trying to “stick it” to the Steelers for what he felt was a wrongful coaching fire (motivation comes in many forms).

Thanks for all your great post(s) along the way SteelBuckeye, appreciate yaz. (Sorry for the O-Buckeye’s loss)

Last year the Steelers earned 653 million and spent 500 million.

Thats 153 million in profit a year for those of us dummies who haven’t owned their own business

They’ve owned the team for decades, and are making well over 100 million a year after expenses, I bet they’re pretty good at saving and investing too…I do believe they’ve got cash on hand, but you do your thing and keep making excuses for Art Rooney II’s failures…

Again, I assume you have never run your own business and had to make a payroll. Profit on paper is almost absolutely meaningless. Do those numbers include the shares owed minority owners or the amount of cash currently locked up in escrow for money owed other players? Does it count debt service and inventory on hand, supplies siting on shelves? So many factors that go into it and they have to put a big portion of that 100 million into the bank to pay the players owed in the future meaning they can't touch it. Think about 153 million and you have to take 100 million of that and put it in the bank if you give him a theoretical 100 mil guarantee.

You assume a lot…I’ll go ahead and assume you’ve never owned an NFL franchise worth $8.3 Billion and haven’t tried to monetize that into profit and cash on hand to do business or are privy to the financial portfolio of Art Rooney II

Payroll is part of the 500 million in total expenses for the franchise

You think they have debt? I doubt it

They’ve owned the franchise for over 70 years, we both know they’re turning a massive profit every year since at least the 1980’s and have the best of the best investing the profit and making money off that.

They sit on a money making machine, they’re not cash strapped, they choose to take an antiquated approach to contracts whenever they can

Porter might indeed be asking for too much but the Rooneys not having cash on hand isn’t the reason he or any other player isn’t signed
